Pieced Hexies

We made Pieced Hexies with Mickey Dupre yesterday.  None of mine are finished yet and I was not happy with the fabrics I used but I had a great time anyway.  Here are some photos of her work.  This Pieced Hexie is called Jazzy.

Selvage Quilts

Here are two selvage quilts from the quilt show.  I can’t tell you how many people asked me if they were made by me.  Unfortunately there wasn’t a selvage quilt from me this year but I do hope to have one for the next show.  I really liked both of these.

Best of Show–Georgia Celebrates Quilts

The Best of Show is by Virginia Greaves.  The name of the quilt is Worn  You can see more about her at her website (www.virginiagreaves.com) or her blog (http://www.virginiagreaves.com/blog/).

You really need to see this quilt to believe it.

0615 Best of Show

It won first place in the Pictorial category, Best of Show and Quilters’ Choice. Quilters’ Choice was chosen by all the people who attended the preview party.  One more award will be given tomorrow at the end of the show and my vote is going for Worn.  Here is a close-up.

Beautiful Raffle Quilt

Here is the raffle quilt for the East Cobb Quilters Guilds for 2015.  It is beautiful!

Here is a close-up of a small section.

0814 Appliqued blocks

I appliqued a couple of these blocks but of course have no idea which ones.  It was fun to be a part of making such a wonderful quilt.

I will have tickets for sale next month for the quilt and it will be raffled off at the end our our Quilt Show on June 13, 2015.  I will post again when I have tickets in my hand.

Esterita Austin Class–Lots of Fun

We had a great time in class yesterday. We were supplied a kit of transparent fabrics and a few patterns and set to work. Here are the samples that Esterita had to inspire us.

Progress on Scrappy Mountains

I have worked on Scrappy Mountains while also working on Sisters Choice.  I had to take the Sisters Choice blocks off the design wall to make more room for the Scrappy Mountains blocks.  I have cut all the background squares but am still working on cutting more Kaffe.

0414 Scrappy Mountains Progress

I also finished an applique block for the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild raffle quilt.  It is going to be beautiful.  For the first round, they gave out blocks to piece.  Here is the one I did.

They then repackaged them and gave out applique kits.  I wasn’t at the meeting but Lynda got two so I offered to do one of them for her.  Here it is.

Gift from Claudia

At guild last week Claudia (the recipient of the wonderful bookcase quilt) gave each of the members of the Executive Committee and wonderful thank you gift.  She made fabric boxes for each of us.  Here is mine.

Full Photo of Claudia’s Bookcase Quilt

Ben sent me a photo of the entire quilt.  It really turned out great, especially considering it was made by about 50 people in all.

Isn’t it wonderful?

Holiday Party at ECQG

We had a great holiday party at ECQG.  Lots of friends, food and fun.  New officers were elected and the President’s quilt was presented to Claudia for her year of service to the guild.  Ben (our new President) designed the quilt and asked me to quilt it.  I had a lot of fun working on it.

Here are a few photos of the quilt.  I don’t have one of the whole quilt but I am hoping Ben took one and will send it to me.

Design Wall Monday–September 23, 2013

Absolutely nothing went on in my sewing room this week.  The Georgia Quilt Show was held in Cobb County for the first time and Tiny Stitches had a booth there so that is where I was much of the week/weekend.  In addition, the local Marietta shops had a mini-shop hop so I worked part of that also.  Busy, busy, busy.

My design wall looks exactly like it did last week.

091613

Several people asked about the pattern for these wonderful spool blocks.  I made this top in a class with Ami Simms and the pattern is only available in a class from her.  If you ever get the chance, take a class from her!  The spools are 3-D and have a piece of batting as stuffing.  Wonderful fun in class.

Hopefully things around here will be back to normal – whatever that is this week.

For more design walls, go to Patchwork Times here.

Batik Hexies

I mailed my batik hexies for the swap on Wednesday.  I managed to make 66 sets.  I wanted to send 100 but I ran out of time (of course).

0913 Batik Hexies for Swap

It will be so much fun to see what gets returned.  I think an all batik hexie flower quilts will be lots of fun to work on.

Dancing Spools

Here is my completed dancing spools quilt top. At least the center is done. I think I will add a flange before the actual border. Right now I am thinking of a scrappy piano key border of black and white.

Off to guild this morning to hear Ami talk about "How Not to Make an Award Winning Quilt". Should be fun.

One Last Photo from the Quilt Show

I loved this hexie quilt!

Also, there was a Mariners Compass quilt class yesterday at the shop.  Each person got one section completed and they hung them up together.

Looks great doesn’t it.

Gift from Nancy

About a month ago I gave my friend Nancy a set of Pyrex Bowls.  This month she gave me this.

A selvage pouch with a bright orange zipper.  Here is the back of it.

She has a great selvage collection and I love what she made for me.  The funniest part is that inside was a bunch of magazine card inserts.  Not many people would love to get them but they are perfect for punching hexagons with my new punch.

Edyta Sitar is the speaker at guild this morning – should be interesting.  Lynda and I are also going to lunch with her along with other Executive Board committee members.

I hope to take lots of photos.

Bonnie Hunter Quilts at the Show

There were three of Bonnie Hunter designs at the show.  First was mine – Easy Street.

Next is Terry’s

It has at least a million pieces.  Last is Michele’s quilt.

Lots of pieces in each quilt – typical of Bonnie Hunter designs.

What I Brought Home from the Quilt Show

At the quilt show last week one of my favorite areas is the small treasures auction.  Guild member make and donate small quilts for a silent auction.  I have bid on quilts other years but for some reason or another, I never won one.  This time I was determined to get a particular one, although I bid on several.  It worked!  I brought home this wonderful little quilt by Stella.

It is the same bright colors and reminds me of the raffle quilt.  I love it.  I still haven’t decided on the perfect place to hang it.
