excellent adventure september 18-20. 2009

This past weekend was our last camping trip of this year. We left Friday afternoon and headed north to Wellesley Island. Wellesley Island is part of the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence River. Wellesley Island is the largest island that is American. Wolfe Island which belongs to Canada is the largest of all the Thousand Islands. To get to Wellesley Island you must cross a very tall bridge. The bridge is tall so that the ships that travel the St. Lawrence River can pass underneath. The first time I rode over this bridge my heart was pounding so fast. I do not like to be up high but I am a pro now having been over this bridge a few times.

The approach to the bridge. If you are scared hang on. I will hold your hand.
Almost to top. Whee-ee-ee.
We are at the top now. If you look down you can see the St. Lawrence River.

Ok. Let's sent up camp. Ok it's not a tent. I did the tenting thing for many years. I want comfort now.

A roaring fire is a must when you are camping.
Let's ride our bikes. Let's see what we find in the park.
A canoe on Eel Bay.
Trees starting to turn colors.

Black-eyed Susans?
Elephant Ears? This plant was soft and fuzzy.

Not sure what this is but I liked the colors. Maybe the beginning of a burning bush?
Some sort of daisy?
Goldenrod.
A field of Cattails.
Bird houses.
St. Lawrence River. After a short rest let's take a ride to the Thousand Island Park.
This area is filled with quaint summer homes.
The ladies in the antique shop told me that about 35 people live here year round at the park.

The Wellesley Hotel.

Tucked in the corner of the hotel is a cute little antique shop.We can walk around the park and check out all the unique houses.

Adirondack chairs.

This sign is on the tree in front of the above house.
I'm quessing there might be a lot of skeeters in the summer.
Deer crossing.
The Thousand Island Park Library.
On the way home we stopped in Clayton, New York.
This was hanging in a tree.
This is cool we are Bills fans.
Made a stop at the Gold Cup Farms Store in Clayton to bring home a supply of River Rat Cheese.
The last stop before home was in Sackets Harbor at a little ice cream shop. We ate pumpkin ice cream. A nice ending to a great weekend.

throw another log on the fire

OMG is it ever going to warm up? We just spent the weekend camping at Westcott Beach State Park. Saturday morning we had rain, thunderstorms but the temperature was a little warm - but today Yikes!! Westcott Beach State Park is located on Lake Ontario. We could hear the sound of the howling wind and the waves crashing on the shore all night. Thankfully our site was not at the beach. That would have been very scary and cold. I rode my bicycle down to the dumpster to throw out the trash. The waves on the water were so big it looked like the ocean. The wind was bitterly cold. My hands were freezing. A tent at a beach site was wrapped around a tree. Someone's party boat had washed up against the shore. We left to come home and hopefully warmer weather and less wind - my hopes were dashed the cold and wind followed us home. The house was so cold we had to turn on the heat. A frost is predicted for tonight and tomorrow night. I ask again is it ever going to warm up? Brrr.
