Look what I found at the Thrifty Shopper 50% off sale yesterday. I paid $1.50.  Isn't it just the coolest? It's also in my favorite color green!!

I can't wait to fill it up with ice cold lemonade

halloween 27 days to go

These are some of my vintage Halloween collection. I picked most of these up at flea markets or thrift stores for $.50 to a few dollars. Each day or two I'll share my Halloween decorations.
Countdown to Halloween along with me.

thrift store find

This sweater was waiting for me at the thrift store. It called my name, made me look and then I had to buy. Just in time for the fall season.

trash night

My computer is in the hospital. It has been having some issues and I finally decided it needed attention. I am using my computer at work to update my blog. So this is a good time to do some much needed cleaning and decluttering of my house and tonight is trash night. I like the coziness of having a lot of things around me but sometimes it can get to be too much. All that dusting and cleaning. Ugh. Getting rid of stuff does not come easy to me. I think I get my pack rat trait from my grandmother - she had a lot of stuff. I am not so bad that the Health Department or the Fire Department is going to shut me down. I can walk through my house without tripping over things. Well, maybe a shoe once in a while. I like flea markets, second hand stores, antique shows - I have been avoiding them lately to save money and to avoid seeing something that I just can't live without.

sign of the times

Today I stopped at my local Thrifty Shopper store. When I walked in I was so surprised to see so many people. There was a line waiting to get into the dressing rooms - I have never seen that before. What I did not know was that today was 50 percent off everything in the store. I was still surprised to see so many people. I don't think I have ever seen more than 10 to 15 people in the store. Today there was a least 100 or more. They had four cashiers working usually it is one. I guess it is a sign of the times. People are changing their thinking and their ways due to the current economic climate. I shop at the thrifty store because it is like a treasure hunt not a necessity for which I am grateful.

being thrifty

I have always loved shopping at second hand stores. It's the thrill of finding something almost new in amongst the cast-offs. It also gives me, who loves clothes, a way of having a lot of them without having to pay big dollars. When I was young and bringing up a child by myself it was a necessity. I lived with secondhand furniture, clothes, accessories for many years. I was into recycling way before it was cool. I believe it is in my blood. As a child my Aunt Julia always told people that she got her clothing, purses, etc. at Sally's. We never knew what she was talking about or where this mysterious Sally's store was located. She finally revealed to us one day that she bought her things at the Salvation Army. So, yesterday I was in the mood and stopped into my local Rescue Mission and came home with 2 red sweaters and a bracelet with snowflake charms for $14.00.
