Déplacé·e·s, Valeriia

Déplacé-e-s Valeriia Déplacé·e·s, Valeriia Déplacé·e·s, Valeriia Déplacé·e·s, Valeriia Valeriia
Have you ever tried shooting a big panorama on a square where like a hundred people are trying to unveil a massive photograph of a refugee girl from Ukraine? Me neither until I did just that at Sergels torg a couple of days ago. Part of the Déplacé·e·s, Valeriia by the artist JR. He has travelled the world for several years with these big photos of refugees from different countries. As per usual when it comes to me, I had no previous knowledge that this event would happen, I just walked right into it. And as I took the top photo with my mirrorless Canon R, I could hear the security guards behind me informing each other with what they knew about what was happening, so I decided to stick around for a minute or two. Anywho, the second photo here is a 12 photo panorama shot with my 60mm lens on the old Canon 77D and then stitched together and cropped a bit. The third photo is a classic wide panorama. It is six photos stitched together, photographed the easy way from left to right as I hoped that the people taking part in the project would be standing still for a while. In the fourth photo we can see the artist JR, he is the guy using the megaphone. And in the fifth photo we can see a part of the photo with Valeriia's face.Looks like a problem displaying the third photo in my post, trying to fix that.

Eye-catcher

Eye-catcher
Detail from the artwork Blickfång, Eye-catcher by Linda Persson at the pedestrian tunnel at the commuter station in Handen. Part of a project called Ljuskonst på otrygga platser. This sculpture consists of two eyes. One that is closed and one that is open. There are several light fixtures like this one at a couple of dark and "unsafe" places around Haninge. Curated by Anna Ahlstrand. I will of course go back late one evening to see it glowing in the dark.

Musical paintings

Musical paintings Musical Paintings Art Gallery
Artist Gösta Engström next to one of his paintings at the gallery in Österhaninge, Galleri Kyrkskolan. He calls the works at the vernissage for Musical paintings. Gösta is still a very active artist and only 89 years old. Enjoyed coffee in the gallery garden with one of the usual suspects. Mid coffee another suspect called and wanted to know if anyone was up for some coffee so a few minutes later there was three coffee drinkers in the garden. Chatted away with three of the artists, one that we had met the previous day during the Seine Fishing at Gålö.

Site no. 16

Site no. 16 Site no. 16
This Summer's art exhibition at Haninge Kulturhus in Handen is called Site no. 16. The artist is Gustaf Nordenskiöld. In the show room you can see a lot of sculptures hanging from the roof. His namesake Gustaf E. A. Nordenskiöld was an explorer who worked at a site at Mesa Verde in the US, back in the 1800s. The objects here refer to real or fictive cultures. They look like real tools but the artist have changed their functionality. The objects from the dig in the US back in 1891 can today be found at a museum in Helsinki, Finland. gustafsweden.com/

Jonas Nobel

Jonas Nobel The Geological History of Haninge Folded Laundry
As I walked into the show room at the cultural centre in Handen yesterday, to look at the new exhibition by Jonas Nobel, the artist himself walked out with two friends. So I turned around and followed him to one of the outdoor sculptures, which are also part of his installation, and that's where I grabbed this portrait of Jonas. He talked a bit about his sculptures and the idea behind it which is Haninge's geological history. The objects in the showroom are office furniture and other items used around Haninge that have been covered in plastic film showing mineral structures from the island of Utö where lithium was discovered two centuries ago. Last photo shows one of three sculptures by along "Eskilsstråket". Haninge had a big laundry industry one century ago. This artwork is made from aluminium and rests on a base made from concrete it shows folded laundry. The exhibition is open for the next three months. If you speak the local lingo you can read more about the exhibition here.

Arty-farty

Not 4 concrete slabs Spot the artwork
I always try to keep my eyes open for anything new when I'm out and about. I guess that is something most photographers do. So I did spot these four concrete slabs that someone had dumped on a lawn near Poseidon's Square in Handen. A few days later they were still there and I started thinking that it might be some sort of art installation. So I asked my buddy Jim to meet me at the new "sculpture". when I got there he was standing on the concrete slabs. When he saw me he said, didn't you say that there's supposed to be a new art installation or sculpture somewhere around here? I cant find it. Then, when he sat down I told him that he was sitting on it. True story, promise!

Museum of public objects

Crush Barrier
The artist Anna Ådahl have filled the square at Stora Arken in Handen with trees, benches, lamp posts, a litter bin and crush barrier seen here. The objects comes from all over Europe. One bench originates from the Beyoğlu Municipality in Turkey. Another comes from Russia and a third from Paris. There's a palm tree, a Norwegian spruce and one Japanese cherry tree. The lamp posts also originates from other countries. The installation is called Museum for public objects and it opened today. As the art curator Åsa Mårtensson told us about the project I sat down on the Turkish bench with a friend, and enjoyed a free French lunch from the Le truck food truck.

In Between Xposition #1

Corners Loudspeakers Corner Urban legend in the making
The two week long international art project Corners Haninge with artists from several counties ended over the weekend. At Bragevägen 5 in Handen a temporary youth center had been set up, open for anyone living in the apartments in the area. This part of the project was called In Between Xposition #1. People were asked to bring their own photos, videos and other stuff for everyone to see. The result, a mix of personal items that will tell a story about the locals. When I arrived a loudspeaker had been set up on the lawn telling the finished story. I was with a friend (we were on our way with cameras to the national park), and we had a look around. We did of course recognizance many places on the photos and videos, and outside again we struck up a conversation with two of the artists. They wanted to know our opinion about it all. Jim asked about something he had seen on a video. A standing stone that sits by the side of the road next to a grocery store near my favorite cafe. He was told that it was called the Bird Stone. Some sort of memorial over a lost pet. Now that really is an urban legend in the making, because it was actually Jim who made that stone and it's inscriptions! Many years ago he learned how to do that from the rune carver Kalle Runristare who creates modern rune stones. When Jim was done with the stone he wasn't sure what to do with it, but with a little help from the municipality it found it's way to where it stands today. So from today we will start to cal it he Bird Stone.

Turning Stockholm inside out

Turning Stockholm inside out
Riding my bike across Poseidon's Square two days ago I noticed a Van parked near the tunnel where there's no cars allowed. A few people were busy setting something up. My first thought was that they were street vendors setting up shop. A closer look and I figured they were selling bags. A third look and I notice a woman wearing a jacket in the same design as the bags. Turns out this is an international art project. More info here. This is called Oh My Home-Lost&Found. And as it was an art project I did an arty thing myself so this is two photos stacked together. By doing that I got the girl in the yellow rubber boots in the photo and that is always a good thing.

Swimming Alone

Swimming Alone
Walking through the Eskilsparken, also known as Olof Palme's Park yesterday I noticed this skrubbskädda swimming all alone in the fountain next to the amphitheatre. It is part of an artwork which funnily enough is called The Birds (Fåglarna), by PYE Engström.
