Warehouse 157 at Port 73

Warehouse 157
The mall Port 73 (named after Väg 73), opened for business a couple of years ago. I have written a few posts about it. Feels like they are always expanding. And at the moment that is true. When I took this snap I was out shooting with a friend and we made a short stop at the mall. I needed to use the restroom but it was gone! All I could find was a big sign saying something about a modernized shopping experience in the near future. Whatever that means.

New Mall

New Mall Port 73 The latest addition to the Port 73 mall in Handen will open for business in August. This is how it looks today. Use the Time Machine to see the same place four months ago. Both scenes are four photos shot in the portrait mode and then stitched together, I did that so that you could get a better view.

Scary accident at the Mall

Scary accident at the Mall

I have heard before about accidents were people have been killed by falling flagpoles. It has been very windy in Haninge this week, and earlier today this flagpole broke and fell to the ground near one of the entrances to the Haninge mall. The ambulance arrived just a few minutes before I took this photo. A group of people had gathered, and this police officer was trying to remove the heavy flagpole. Someone must have been badly hurt. Not sure who is responsible for looking after the flag poles, has to be the municipality or the mall. I stopped at the cafe after taking this photon where two of my friends were busy working on their laptops, so we searched online for news about this incident, but didn't find anything.

Buying & Selling

Buying & Selling

Port 73

One year ago I shoved you a photo of a construction site in Handen. A future shopping centre with 60 000 m2 of stores, boutiques and restaurants. It is called Port 73. Well, it opened for business this week. The mall was filled with thousands of people on my first visit, which was yesterday. I had a look around in most of the stores, without buying anything, so I decided to find someone who had been shopping. And this is her. Eva from Stockholm. I met her on the big parking lot. She told me that she works as a sales person somewhere in Haninge. I asked her if she had any fun hobbies and she said she enjoyed travelling to big cities. Her favorite places include Paris, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro and New York. I wonder what Eva bought. If you would like to see a bigger version of the panorama press here.

(in case you are wondering, it was very windy when I took Eva's portrait.).

Translations for higher resolutions

Translations for higher resolutions

How do you get to the centre of art? That's a good question, and one that Jennifer Rainsford is trying to get an answer for. She is one of three artists working on the newest art project in Haninge. It is called Konsten i Centrum. Which is a bit of a word play. Art in the (Shopping) Centre might be a possible English translation. The first part of the project is called Translations for higher resolutions. It is choreographed by Rainsford who received the Haninge Art Stipendiary last year. She is currently a student at The Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm. A few people had gathered at the mall on Sunday to see the art project get under way, but I'm guessing that most of the onlookers where a bit surprised when all of a sudden a number of people began to sing, (or at least to hum), near the Taco Bar. To (perhaps), better understand what was going on I have translated a description of the choirs performance:

Using a pattern of rubber tiles on the floor, a sound is created when the choir moves over the floor to the different tiles. Pictures and sound created by people is connected with social status according to the artist, who asks what might happen if old pictures and sounds are created in a new context.

If you want to see a few more photos from this happening check out the slideshow below.

The Crew Commander and the Fire-Fighter

The Crew Commander

Fire Truck

The Crew Commander (to the right), and one of the fire fighters. There was a fire at one of the restaurants at the mall in Handen this morning. The employees managed to stop the fire, but the fire-fighters had to go back a couple of times as there was a problem with the ventilation system. I heard the news on the radio, and when I checked my flickr friend Jim's photos he had a photo from the mall. As I arrived a few hours later fire-fighters were still at the scene. I talked a bit with the fire-fighters and the Crew Commander and they said that everything was under control.

Glass Front

Glass Front

A glass front at the shopping mall in Handen. I have a thing for reflective surfaces. And windows in general. It's theme day and the theme is Glass.

Confusing

Mall Entrance

One of the entrances to the Haninge Mall. Should be Handen Mall (Handen is the name of the area, Haninge is the Municipality). But some politician had a black out and the name changed when the new mall (roof added), was finished. The postal code was also changed, from Handen to Haninge, but a few years ago it was changed back. The commuter station was called Handen, but guess what it was changed to Haninge, and surprise surprise, last year it was changed back to it's original name. Aren't you glad I cleared all this up?

Shop 'Til You Drop

HANINGE CENTRUM

The welcoming sign at the big shopping mall in Handen. I hate shopping, so I tend to avoid this place. But it has all the stores that you will ever need, including the Systembolaget, the most important of all Swedish shops. Handen is the seat of the Municipality of Haninge and 12 000 people call it home.
