To celebrate the letter J, we sorted, counted, made predicitons about more or less, and identified which colors we had more or less of. Each table group was given a large bag of jelly beans and each student a 20 frame mat, and a recording sheet. They sorted the jelly beans by color, used the 20 frame mat to count the number of each color they had and wrote that number beside the corresponding color word. We have been learning how to use the 20 frame to count by 5's and on from 10 and 15. This was a perfect engaging activity for them to practice these skills in a fun way.

Numbers 11-15
We are learning how to write and construct numbers 11-15. We cleaned our tables and practiced writing numbers with shaving cream. Then we used cubes and a five frame mat to compose and decompose numbers 11-15. We are learning that we do not need to count the 10 cube train. We are also learning to use the five frame to tell how many more we need to make 15 by looking to see how many spaces are empty.
