Rudolph

We read Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and created a story map. The kids each illustrated one part of the story map. To review last weeks lesson on entertainment books and inform books, we read a non-fiction book about Caribou and created a Venn Diagram to compare Rudolph to real Caribou.
Take a look at these cute reindeer we made.

The Ugly Bug

We read the Ugly Bug and used Deanna Jump's Story Map recording sheet to illustrate the characters, setting, problem and solution.  The main characters were the ugly bug and the bird. The setting was outside in the grass and plants. The problem was that the ugly bug could not hide like the other bugs and was afraid that the bird would eat him. The solution was that when the bird came to eat the ugly bug he looked even uglier because he was scared so the bird was scared to eat him. The bird thought that the ugly bug might give him a stomach ache.

Fairy Tale Elements

We created a Fairy Tale element chart for each fairy tale we read during our unit. Then on the last day of our unit we looked at all of the charts and compared the fairy tales. We learned that all fairy tales have the same elements and some of them have the same special number and evil character(s).

Giant Fun!

We had a great time today reading different versions of Jack and the Beanstalk, drawing ourselves as giants, measuring how many beans tall we are, and identifying story elements.
