Another Dumb and Biased Attack On Mitt Romney's Income Taxes

Below is a short letter I dashed off this morning to the Editor of the website Business Insider, after I read a juvenille and amatuerishly deceptive article about Mitt Romney's 2011 tax rates.
The author, Henry Blodget, a weak chinned, beady eyed dweeb, is vainly trying to rile up the lower income set, by asserting Mr. Romney pays an unfair tax rate.

Read my letter, see the link to Mr. Blodget's article as well as some follow up material on Mitt's taxes below and make your own assessments.

******

Dear Mr. Blodget,

It was interesting reading your decidedly biased autopsy of Mitt Romney’s tax returns.

I see you chose to play to the cheap seats and take the inflammatory angle of telling your readers Mr. Romney earned a whopping $22,000,000, while paying a grossly unfair, out of touch, implicitly devious and one can only assume, paltry $3,000,000 for a 14% tax rate.

What would be refreshing however is an honest assessment of Mr. Romney’s tax returns by manipulative media characters such as yourself.

While your attention grabbing headline number of a 13% tax on Mr. Romney’s income is accurate on a gross income level, NO ONE in the US pays income taxes on their gross income. I know for a fact YOU don’t. So wouldn’t it be fair to assess Mr. Romney on what folks actually do, as opposed to what you deem they think they should do?

In a few simple minutes I was able to find out Mr. Romney’s tax rate on his TAXABLE income (you know, the amount required by law after LEGAL deductions from gross income) is in reality 17.5%.

That is HIGHER than the 15% Cap Gains rate you tried to show Mr. Romney paying less than. It’s also higher than the pathetically biased and pseudo-alarming slant you apply, as shown in an excerpt from your article below:

14% is a lot lower than the 35% tax bracket that most people assume those who make a lot of money pay.

It's also lower than the 15% capital gains and dividends tax rate.

It's also lower than the 15% income tax rate paid by Americans who make between $8,500 and $34,500 per year.

So, you can understand why some people think Mitt Romney pays a pretty low tax rate.

--------------------

Since you have the complete information on Mr. Romney’s return, it would be interesting to see his Itemized Deductions, particularly his Charitable Donations. As I understand it, Mr. Romney donates approximately 10% of his income in the form a tithe. If he uses his top line number, he’s donating $2.2 million – on a taxable income basis it would be $1.7 million. Either number is generous and even more so when compared to the model thin contributions made by such heralded political figures like Joe Biden and Bill Clinton – who notoriously donate hundreds and their used underwear.

I am realistic enough to know bottom feeders such as you will not change and will continue to try and manipulate opinion by using half-truths, guile and deceit. I just wanted you to know, there are fair-minded and decent people out there who don’t buy into your swill and will expose you, even in small measure, whenever possible.

Rick "Sour Grapes" Santorum Say Nix to Romney Admin Job Idea

Driven by hunger, a fox tried to reach some grapes hanging high on the vine but was unable to, although he leaped with all his strength. As he went away, the fox remarked, 'Oh, you aren't even ripe yet! I don't need any sour grapes.'

People who speak disparagingly of things that they cannot attain would do well to apply this story to them.

 – From Aesop’s The Fox and The Grapes

==================

Former Mitt Romney vanquished Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum appeared on the CNN Sunday show “State of the Union” and to these suspicious, jaded ears, he continues to play the role of Aesop’s Fox, sounding as self–serving and sour as ever. This writer was never been impressed with Santorum – even before his 2012 presidential run thrust him into the national limelight after his surprising Iowa Caucus narrow loss tie win in January.

Santorum said Sunday he won’t be serving in a Mitt Romney’s administration if the Republican is elected president this fall.

CNN "State of the Union" host Candy Crowley asked Santorum if he could see himself serving in a Romney administration — and Santorum said no.

“It’s pretty much a flat 'no,'” he said. “And it’s not because I don’t want to help Gov. Romney and I don’t want to be part of him having a successful presidency, it’s just for me it’s a matter of my priorities and my time of being a husband and a father. I have to take care of them.”

Hmmm….this petulant statement raises a question. Why would his “priorities” prevent him from serving in his former foe’s administration, yet had lightening struck and Santorum somehow won the GOP nomination and the election, wouldn’t  his family be forced to take a back seat.

An even more telling question – one which Santy know the answer to , ergo this disgruntled response – Would a President Romney even want Santorum serving in his administration.

It appears Ricky knows the answer full well.

Santorum Becomes A National Joke

This headline picture and capture  from the Drudge Report about Santorum says it all....

MAYBE ENOUGH DELEGATES, BY 2016?

Romney Leader of GOP - Rassmussen

In news that is sure to sour the stomachs of whiney ABR's everywhere, Mitt Romney is now seen as the leader of the Republican Party, and no one else is even close, according to a new Rassmussen poll released Monday.

Romney dominates the results, besting his current GOP nomination rivals Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and New Gingrich, Talk Radio giant Rush Limbaugh and former GOP superstar Sarah Palin.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey gave Likely U.S. Voters the names of eight well-known Republicans, including the four finalists for the party’s presidential nomination, and asked which was the leader of the GOP.

Here are the results:

Is the leader of the Republican Party Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, John Boehner, Rush Limbaugh, Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin or someone else?
  • Romney26%
  • Boehner — 13%
  • Paul — 7%
  • Limbaugh — 7%
  • Santorum — 6%
  • Gingrich — 4%
  • Ryan — 4%
  • Palin — 2%
  • Other — 17%
  • Undecided — 14%
Here are the results of the same question to just Republicans:
  • Romney27%
  • Boehner — 14%
  • Santorum — 12%
  • Gingrich — 6%
  • Paul — 5%
  • Limbaugh — 4% or less
  • Ryan — 4% or less
  • Palin — 4% or less
  • Other/Undec — 25%

Expect more such as this as the rallying around Romney momentum continues, as he nails down the nomination and enters the General Election phase of the campaign.

Intersting to note the numbers are in that 27% range, which Romney has had a firm grip on throughout this campaign. That dear friends IS the GOP base and they are solidly and squarely with our soon to be nominee.

PETTY SANTORUM ENDORSES OBAMA OVER ROMNEY

Perennial GOP cry baby and douche bag Rick Santorum said today de facto GOP nominee Mitt Romney is so much like President Obama, voters in the fall might as well stick with the incumbent.

Yes,  you read that right.
The emotionally immature Santorum, whining at a campaign event in San Antonio, reprised his ridicule of the front-runner as the Etch A Sketch candidate, who will change his positions after the primary.

"You win by giving people a choice," he said. "You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there. If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate of the future."

Ron Paul Goes For Rick's Throat

Ron Paul Slamming St. Rick...hard.

Romney may like this, but he still has to be thinking "The enemy of my enemy is my enemy."

Paul was successful is bringing down Newt in Iowa with ads a lot more savage than Romney's.

We'll have to see how this plays out.

Question/Debate of the Day: Why is Ricky Falling Behind Obama?

Here is the Question of the Day....ah but first some background to frame it....

According to today's Rassmussen Daily Presidential tracking poll, GOP Presidential contender Rick Santorum, who was leading President Obama last week by one point, now trails him by 4. That is is significant 5 point swing....in th wrong direction.

Even more concerning is this comes after Santorum's 3 state primary sweep on Tuesday and the positve media afterglow. It also comes amidst the most controversial social issue to beset the Obama Administration to date: the controversy over Catholic hospitals being forced to provide birth control against their religious teachings, an issue tailor made for the staunch social conservative.

The poll also found GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney falling back 10 points behind Obama, a drop we understand. Romney is being pummeled daily by the concerted efforts of the DNC, GOP rivals, the Left Wing Media and Talk Radio Truth Twisters.

So my question goes out to all the new found Santorum Apostles (btw, where were you when he was at 1%?)......

What's St. Rick's excuse?

Romney Strong In South? He Just Aint' Whistling Dixie!

It's been a long held belief Mitt Romney doesn't have a ghost of a chance to earn votes in the South. However, four polls recently released show Romney running surprising strong. New polls reveal Romney is leading, tied or making significant inroads against his two competitors in Dixie.

In a new Alabama poll released today Romney LEADS Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich by 4 and 5 points respectively. Romney leads in Alabama (yes... you read that right) with 27% in the state conquered by Vincent LaGuardia Gambini in 1992

A Georgia poll on Feb 3, Romney has gutted Gingrich's lead from 53 points in December to just 13 points currently.

And the Super Tuesday state which Gingrich is staking his campaign's viability on, may not be as easy as he assumes. Romney staged a rally tin Atlanta last night and may make an effort in the state in order to force Gingrich to play defense on his alleged turf.

Add these factors to the polls released yesterday showing Romney running away with Virgina and tied in North Carolina, and it appears the breathless anticipation of a Romney implosion may be a little premature.

Rick Santorum, despite his Iowa win didn't resonate in South Carolina or Florida. While he did stage a sweeping victory on Tuesday in the Midwest, he has yet to prove himself down South. So while Gingrich continues to flail and look increasing passe, Romney can run a very competitive Southern race. Since most of these states are proportional in their delegate selection, Romney running close ensures none of the other two will break out, while he continues to maintain is delegate edge.

Stay tuned....

Mitt Romney and the Angry GOP - Challenges Ahead - Michael Medved

Michael Medved nails Mitt Romney’s challenges in 2012, as well as the GOP’s.

On no significant issue has Romney moved to the left or to the center over the last four years; his platform of 2012 offers a program of conservative reform far bolder and more substantive than any ideas he put forward in 2008.

Mitt’s precise problem came into focus for me with an e-mail from an angry listener to my radio show who upbraided me for my open support of Romney as the most electable candidate against Obama. “We remember what you did to us last time, and we won’t let you get away with it again!” she wrote. “This time you’re trying to ram the RINO, Romney, down our throats and last time it was McCain. It was because of people like you that we got stuck with McCain, when we could have had a real conservative who would have beaten Obama!”

And who would have been that “real conservative” back in the distant days of 2008?

None other than … Mitt Romney, the “conservative’s conservative ” eagerly endorsed by Senator Jim DeMint and nearly all of my talk radio colleagues, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage and many more.

That Romney no longer counts as a “real conservative” doesn’t reflect any ideological shifts on his part, but it does suggest a significant movement of the entire GOP toward the enraged and indignant right. The far lower turnouts in Florida, Nevada, Minnesota, Colorado and Missouri all indicate that this tectonic movement hardly counts as a positive development for the Republican Party.
-----------------

"The enraged and indignant right." - Sound familiar.

We have seen many such sentiments expressed here, on other sites and in a daily diatribe on most truth twisting Talk Radio shows. This "I'd rather be RIGHT than win" mantrra will prove to be a major stumbling block on the road to successfully ousting President Obama.

Just as Talk Radio and misguided fringer Conservatives mucked up the 2010 mid-term elections, where the goal was to TAKE CONTROL of the Senate as well as the House (while disposing of Harry Reid in the process) they seem hell bent on using the same tactics in the 2012 cycle. The GOP could have deposed Reid in Nevada with a popluar mainstream Conservative, but were overrun by the "blood in their eyes" Right Wing activists who offered us an ill-prepared and unsuitable candidate.

In Delaware, rather than keep a safe, solid seat in the GOP aisle and make the incumbent tow the line AFTER control was won, we had to suffer through the debacle of a  psuedo-witch leading us to defeat, while Talk Radio extolled her Conservative purity.

Why?

"Because we're as mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore."

In our personal lives, very seldom is it wise or successful to make serious decisions while in a highly emotional and angry state of mind. Unfortunately, this logic doesn't seem to be followed in certian political circles.

It's sad to see the same storm clouds gathering again on the political horizon. Hopefully we can wake up, seek shelter from the storm and ride the sensible, pragmatic and MAINSTREAM CONSERVATIVE course to victory.

Picture of the Day: Mitt Ready To Carve Up Newt

As a wave of new polls released Sunday show Mitt Romney is poised to make a stunning political turnaround in Tuesday's Florida GOP Primary, the picture below illustrates what Rompin' Romney has been doing to Newt Gingrich in order to achieve that.

USA Today Desperately Tries To Downplay Romney - Obama Poll

I thought the Gingrich Campaign and bloggers like Right Wing Nut were desperate, but Susan Page of USA Today takes the cake for furiously trying to downplay the latest Swing States Poll results of head-to-head matchups of President Obama against GOP contenders Mitt Romney, Newt Ginrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum.

In her headline, Ms Page claims Obama and Romney are tied, while Gingrish trails. Then in the lead paragraph, Ms. Page writes:

"Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney essentially ties Barack Obama in the nation's top dozen battlegrounds, a USA TODAY/Gallup Swing States survey finds, while rival Newt Gingrich now trails the president by a decisive 14 percentage points."

(Emphasis mine, and you will soon see why.)

Finally in paragraph 4, we to the numbers of the Obama-Romney match-up, which Ms. Page describes thusly....

"In a head-to-head race, Romney leads Obama by a statistically insignificant percentage point, 48%-47%, the survey finds. Romney's support hasn't wavered from his standing in early December, while Obama's standing against him has risen by four percentage points."

I don't know about you, but in a contest, when one enity leads or beats another, even by one point, it's classified as LEADING, Leads or better yet BEATS.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Swing State Poll, it is a survey of voters across 11 battleground or swing states, which have been identified as historically being those which have decided many past Presidential elections. USA Today polls these states periodically, as does the Purple Poll. I find the Purple Poll more reflective, due to the fact they actually poll each state in the Battleground classification.

In any event, it struck me as prematurely desperate of Ms. Page to try and downplay so heavy-handedly, Gov. Romney's "insignificant" percentage point victory. But maybe they are really worried about Romney natural appeal to Independents, a voter base which has soured on Obama.

Stay Tuned.

Fired Up Romney at Final SC Rally - Can a Newt Win Actually Help Mitt?

No matter how today’s South Carolina primary turns out, Mitt Romney capped his campaign with a raucous rally last night, which seemed to renew the candidate’s vigor and indicates his fight with a resurgent Newt Gingrich may end up being a positive development for 2012 GOP nomination run.

A fiery crowd of 400 jammed the night time rally in Greenville, a pivotal Upstate voting area, and cheered wildly as the exhausted Romney took the stage. Their energy seemed to infuse the candidate with energy and he wowed the crowd.

Flanked by top South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Virginia’s Bob McDonnell, who endorsed Romney earlier in the day, Romney had one of his best rally’s of the campaign season. According to the Washington Post:

Question/Debate of the Day: What Happens to the 3 Janitors?

In the raucous Monday night GOP debate in South Carolina, Newt Gingrich laid out an idea for encouraging the poor minority youth of this nation to discover the joys of employment.

"You could take one janitor and hire 30-some kids to work in the school for the price of one janitor," Gingrich said. "And those 30 kids would be a lot less likely to drop out. They would actually have money in their pocket."

Later in Sean Hannity's spin room, Gingrich expanded on his idea:

HANNITY: What does it mean if you suggest that it's good for people to get a job -- and you talked about how much janitors in New York make. They do make a pretty astronomical amount of money. What is it --

GINGRICH: You can hire 30 young people part-time for one janitor. So you take a school that has four or five janitors, keep the top two, take the bottom three. You now have 90 kids who have an incentive to not drop out. They have to go to -- they have to go to school to get -- have their little job. Their little job gives them cash. They have pride in what they're doing. They begin to have pride in the school. They'll learn the work ethic. It's just a win-win strategy.

-------------------------

Sounds like a great idea, unless you are one of the 3 janitors.

Presumably these janitors who are getting paid these astronomical salaries are adults and heads of households.

My questions to the group is....What happens to the 3 janitors and their families?

Are there other equally salaried jobs they could find to keep their lives intact?

Or should they go on Unemployment and through Professor Gingrich Re-Education/Job Training camps?

Rocky Mountain Poll: Romney leading in Arizona by 27

No 25% ceiling for Mitt Romney in sunny Arizona for 2012 GOP Frontrunner Mitt  Romney. He blistering the field in the Grand Canyon state, with a nearly 30 point lead. Arizona's primary is in February and is looming as another big win for the former Massachusetts Governor.

"A poll released Friday shows that Mitt Romney is leading other Republican candidates in the race for Arizona's GOP presidential primary.

The Rocky Mountain Poll by the Phoenix-based Behavior Research Center finds 41 percent of Republican voters support Romney.

Romney was followed by Rick Santorum at 14 percent, Newt Gingrich at 9 percent, Rick Perry at 5 percent, Ron Paul at 4 percent and John Huntsman at 2 percent."

Pathetic Limbaugh Lies About Democrats Attacks on Romney

Rush Limbaugh sunk to a new low today, in a blatantly dishonest and pathetic assessment of how the Democrats views the candidacy of Republican Mitt Romney. At the close of a discussion, which you can read here, Limbaugh states:

"The Democrats are afraid of any candidate they have sought to destroy. You can start with Sarah Palin, you can move on to Santorum. Any -- any conservative who showed any interest -- the Democrats set out to destroy. That's who they're genuinely afraid of. They are not hammering Mitt Romney at all, and Donna Brazile let the cat out of the bag. Don't doubt me."

Not at all?   Really Rush?

I guess the following are expression of love and support:

Democrats Keep Focus on Romney (12/30/11)

DNC attacks Mitt Romney as a flip-flopper in new ad (11/30/11)

Dem Attacks On Romney Indicate Preference for Gingrich (12/5/11)

In fact, just Google DNC attacks Romney to find a treasure trove of info.

Now the incident Rush used to advance his deceptive narrative was a completely partisan post debate assessment by Donna Brazile Saturday night, during a conversation with correspondent John Karl and moderator George Stephanopolus:

BRAZILE: Mitt Romney won tonight because no one touched him -- and for Democrats, you know what? It was good news for us.

KARL: Why is that?

BRAZILE: Because we believe that the weakest candidate is the candidate that the Republicans are not attackin', and that's Mitt Romney.

KARL: Oh, come on.

STEPHANOPOULOS: No, you don't believe that, Donna.
----------------

Now Rush is dishonestly spinning this story as Stephanopoulos' response as being irritated with Brazille for letting the secret out of the bag. In reality, the entire panel laughed in her face when she uttered these words. Nobody believed and Brazille herself could be seen with a grin on her face, which bespoke the mischief she was trying to create.

I know this for a fact, because I was watching it live. Thankfully, I don't Rush to interpret or explain things to me.

It's really sad to see someone you liked and enjoyed listening to, lose all credibility with these tired, stale political theories. Rush trots these dog-eared arguments every cycle. I think he's just tired of the grind, since the things he says are so easily debunked.

Rush likes to say "Don't doubt me."

I don't have to doubt you Rush, cause I don't believe you.

Question/Debate of the Day: Does a NH Win for Romney Seal the Deal?

Karl Rove has an article in today's Wall Street Journal laying out the case why Mitt Romney, should he emerge 2-0 after the New Hampshire Primary, would be a prohibitive favorite for the GOP Nomination:
---------------------------
Not long ago few thought Mitt Romney could win both the very conservative Iowa caucuses and then the quirky, slightly contrarian New Hampshire primary. If he did, most assumed he would have a lock on the Republican nomination. For understandable reasons: No other GOP presidential candidate in an open race has achieved back-to-back victories in these first two contests.
By this time next week, we'll know if Mr. Romney is 2-0. If so, he becomes the prohibitive favorite.
---------------------------
So will a Romney win in New Hampshire, especially after a duo of debates this weekend which are shaping up to be as civil as a union dock strike, essentially seal the deal?

The Right/Left Wing Romney Liars

When it comes to Mitt Romney and his infamous 25% level of support, all we keep hearing from the unholy alliance of Right Wing Blabber Mouths and Left Wing Hacks - you the bunch of which I speak - your Rush Limbaugh's and your Chris Matthew's and other Twisters of Truth - they keep perpetuating the asinine line:

"75% of the Party rejected Romney in Iowa last night!"

I defy anyone, and I mean anyone, to show me an early contested primary race, where the party provided a victory margin of 75% or more.

How could Rick Santorum  "win" with his come from behind 25% and Romney be rejected with the same 25% or the Iowa vote?

Could it not be said Santorum was rejected by 75% of the party as well?

Didn't 90% of the GOP reject Rick Perry?

Was Gingrich cast out by 86% of the Party?

How are these candidates not viewed as "weak" under this line of thinking?

The other smear these peddlers of political perversion push is the canard Romney has been running for 5, 6 or 7 years. Yet a certian porty, thrice married, drug addled bloviator will laud Reagan for persisting in three cmapaigns, spanning 12 years.

Pass me a barf bag!
These Twisters of Truth thrive like maggots on a decaying carcass, spinning these illogical and totally unrealistic anti-Romney ideas to their malleable audiences of supplicants.

And yet they hide behind the phony visage of being Hardball playing Doctor's of Democracy.

I don't know who are bigger fools, these Blowhards or the jackasses that believe them.
