Cocktail Shakers Quilt Finish

One of the nice things about making
Mini Quilts
is that they work up fast.
Cocktail Shakers
21" X 24"
 I love how these
Kaffe Fasset solid Shot Cottons
work together with this pattern.
I really enjoyed making this delightful little quilt
designed by Amy Lobsiger
in her new book with Sarah Fielke
Little Quilts
I even braved it and did my own machine quilting
using variegated
Rainbows
by Superior Threads
a high sheen Trilobal polyester
with a one inch color change interval.
 The binding:
a Kaffe Fasset print

Do You Save Your Selvages?

 Do you save your selvages?
You know, those little sides that run along the edge of your fabric?
They tell you a lot about the fabric you are using:
 designer's name
manufacturer
color codes
I began saving my selvages several years ago
when I started following Karen Griska's
It's called the place for
EXTREME SCRAP QUILTERS
(after all, who but the extreme would save those selvages?)
She gives daily ideas for uses of selvages
from quilts to dresses....
 ...and even furniture.
I thought it would be so fun to recover a chair
for my sewing room.
So I began saving and saving and saving with each project.
And the pile grew and grew.
Looking at them brings fond memories
of some of my favorite fabrics.
Have I made anything with those selvages over the years?
Nada
I do use the color codes quite often
when planning a quilt.
Sometimes I will even take a selvage with me to a
quilt store when
 selecting and matching fabrics.
But, as my pile grew, I began to feel a little guilty.
They need a good home
where they would be appreciated,
loved and paid attention to.
Someone who would take good care of them
and help them reach their true potential.
Happily they have been adopted
by my friend Cynthia ( Dream, Quilt, Create)
A large box has been sent off to California.
Will I keep collecting selvages from my fabrics
in the future?
You betcha :)

Friends In High Places

It pays to have good friends.
Friends who know what is important, and LEAD you to the good things in life.

Who could ask for more than this?

I've been friends with Cindy Harris (Everyday Insanity) for years and years.
Way before I started quilting. Way before the creation of our blogs.
Even though I moved away, we have stayed in contact.
So when she offered a GIVEAWAY over on her blog Everyday Insanity of course I said Count me in!
I was thrilled to learn I had won.
Look at this haul!
(I have to admit there were two chocolate bars, but only one lasted long enough for me to take this picture.)

Cindy is good at whatever she puts her heart into.
She makes the most beautiful handmade cards.
I am now the recipient of 15 (!) original cards.

Cindy is also a wonderful cook. On her blog she shares the most delicious recipes. I try many of the things she shares, my family always compliments the dish.
Cindy is also a Pampered Chef hostess, and sent me several things from their line of products.
I can hardly wait to try the Chocolate Raspberry Sauce, and the Garlic Rub.

How did she know I need these?
Thank you Cindy!

Good friends inspire us to be better than before we met.
Cindy is that kind of friend.
Make sure to check out Everyday Insanity and see all the wonderful food, and creative ideas coming your way.
And, I plan on going out today and do as Cindy, and Desmond Tutu suggest, and "do a little bit of good where you are."
It may even involve chocolate.

Daisy Cottage

My friend Lori Holt (Bee In My Bonnet) has just released her 2nd fabric line Daisy Cottage, and I'm in love!
Fabulous combinations of pinks, golds, grays and brown.

As Fall Market begins, Lori will be introducing quite a few new patterns she has designed to showcase Daisy Cottage.
I think my favorite is Shabby Shades, complete with the most wonderful embellishments.

Lori always gives her creations that vintage feel.

Daisy Patch has appliqued ric rac in the center of each flower.

Lori produces her fabrics through Riley Blake Designs. I remember her explaining to me over lunch one day that one of the reasons she chose to go with RB is because they will re-print the fabrics if there are enough requests.

Lori is having a GIVEAWAY with stacks of Daisy Cottage fat quarters over on Bee In My Bonnet.
Run over right away and see if you can win!

And make sure to check out her new patterns like Daisy Chain...

...and Home Sweet Home.

Love them all Lori, and I know you are going to be a BIG hit in the Riley Blake booth in Houston.

Fit To be Quarter Ruler

Look what I just won!
The Fit To be Quarter Ruler from Monique of Open Gate.

My thanks to my friend Sherri of A Quilting Life for offering this wonderful Give Away.
And many thanks to Monique.
I can think of so many ways to use this ruler. It came with a free pattern and helpful instructions.
Monique wrote "Made to trim quarter square triangles, combination units and square quilt blocks."

This is how Sherri has been using her Fit To be Quarter ruler.
Stay tuned.
I'm already contemplating how useful this ruler will be for my next few projects.
