Those Mesa Ladies/ October

Yesterday was that favorite day of the month
where I had the opportunity to spend the day with
those wonderful Mesa Ladies
We quilt together at the church, visit,
eat wonderful food, and have the best time.
Janet is getting ready for Halloween
with a work in progress
fusible applique
Bench Pillow
I believe the pattern is by KimberBell
 Lori found this baby quilt
she had started 8 years ago
for her grand daughter :)
Time to finish now!
Only the binding needs to be done.
And a new baptism quilt for the same grand daughter
CTR= Choose The Right
 For Show and Tell
Peg brought her
Getting Around To It
that she designed
 Raw edge circles
 Soft Minkee back
Look at the wonderful quilting!
Julie was working on a pink Chevron quilt for a grand daughter
Each month two of the ladies in the group
serve as hosts
This month Julie and Christine provided the most fun Halloween themed day.
As we walked in, one of the tables was decorated with snacks
and door prizes
 How cute is this?
Julie decorated her trifle bowl
Inside was a snack of roasted peanuts and candy corn.
When eaten together, they taste a lot like a Payday candy bar.
And for lunch Julie and Christine treated us to
the most delicious
Halloween Bag Lunches
 Quilty labels
Chicken Salad Croissants
Veggies and Dip
Fruit Cups
Chips
Homemade cookies
and of course
eyeballs and spider rings
Can you see why I feel so spoiled?
Thank you ladies  !!!

General Conference

Do you pick a favorite weekend each year?
I do :)
Well, actually I pick two favorite weekends:
The first weekend in April
and
The first weekend in October
 On both of these weekends
my church
broadcasts a
2-Day
General Conference
Thousands attend in the
Conference Center
in Salt Lake City
but Millions watch on TV or their media device
(like me)
It's quite nice to stay home and watch church
and I always line up some fun quilting projects to be accomplished, too :)
But, the main reason I love listening to our church leaders
is to hear messages of Christ
And, to be reminded of what matters most in this life.
There are (2) two hour sessions on both
Saturday and Sunday
I come away encouraged and inspired to
do better and to be better.
Most of all I feel
God's always extending love for me
and for each of us.
If you would like to listen to the messages given today
you can tune in on your computer or media device

S'More Favors

 Saturday was my daughter's
Bridal Shower
and I had the opportunity to
provide the favors
as a "Thank You" for the guests who attended
Aubrey and Kevin met at a
Church Camp Out
and immediately fell in love.
He took her back up to that same campsite
in the Arizona mountains
 to propose.
I thought it only appropriate that I make
S'More Favors
to honor their union.
 Layers of
Graham crackers
Chocolate
and
Marshmallows
Yum!

Conair Travel Iron

Sometimes you just have to have
a quilt notion
because it's
cute
Then when you discover
it's
practical
you smile even more.
My friend Denise brought her

EZ Press
Hand Held Steam Iron
by Conair

to class
and I knew I wanted to order one, too.
Love the Aqua color
(*I admit, that is what sold me first :)
and Travel Size
Just perfect for taking to classes
with my small
8 3/4" X 11 3/4" Fold Away
Cutting and Pressing Station
by Omnigrid
As you know, often at quilt classes you do not have
a lot of room at your table.
These nest snugly right next to my machine
and are convenient for working on blocks.
The Conair Iron
was $23.95 with free shipping
from Amazon.com
The Omnigrid Mat
can also be ordered from Amazon.com

Handmade With Love Labels

As I have mentioned before in several blog posts
I often like to use
pre-made labels on the back of my quilts.
While visiting a local quilt shop with some friends,
Denise called me over and said she spotted something
she knew I would like.
She was right !
Quilt Labels with a Modern look :)
 Handmade with Love by Sweetwater
for Moda
The labels are sold in a
12 1/2 " X  44"
panel length
Of course I had to get several lengths.
These will be perfect for some upcoming projects.
 many styles to choose from
 I purchased the cream background,
but the panel is also available in an aqua or gray background.

Those Mesa Ladies Summer Sewing Safari

Yesterday was my favorite day of the month
with
Those Wonderful Mesa Ladies
Peg was in charge of hosting for June
and she always makes everything so fun!
She e-mailed us in advance and said the day
would have the theme of
Summer Sewing Safari
The invitation said:
Dress in your animal print attire - if you want to...
Gonna Go Wild, quilting.
Door Prizes: Like, every half hour, just saying.
Lunch: Don't mess with me, I've got this, ladies!
Show and tell: This a favorite part. Bring your fun stuff to show.
Duh: We'll be sewing/quilting/cutting, whatever you wish

So I dressed up in my best leopard shirt...
 grabbed my zebra scissors
and
Cheetah glasses
along with my sewing machine and quilting supplies
 and headed to the church.
Peg and Candice had the room
ready for our arrival
with Safari treats and door prizes.
Music from The Lion King's
Hakuna Matata
would erupt through out the room
about every 20 minutes
and a door prize would be given.
 All were jungle themed
Peg really was creative in her selections!
Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!
Who would not love a tiger or zebra car?
I personally received some very cool
Jaguar cupcake liners
and a zebra night mask.
Renee went home with animal print flip flops.
 Peg even made
wrist pin cushions for each one of us!
I now have my very own Cheetah wrist pin cushion.
Are you jealous?
Have I mentioned before that Peg has an extensive background in catering?
She and Candice provided the most delicious boxed lunches.
Chicken salad on croissants
fruit cups
veggies and veggie dip
and dessert
Wild, Crazy, Exotic!
I loved every minute of our day!
Thank you Peg and Candice for a truly Wild Time  !!
**
tomorrow I will share with you our
Show and Tell from the group.

Juggling with the Juggle Quilt

The other day when I was sewing with
Those Mesa Ladies
Jamie was in the process of cutting out
fabrics for a new quilt pattern.
Juggle
by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms
 Love this pattern
with all of it's darling
hexie's made with Camille's
Happy Go Lucky fabrics.
If you look closely you can see
a lot of small white 60 degree triangles sections
that separate the hexagons.
The pattern provides a paper template
that you should first copy onto your own template plastic.
The only problem:
we were sewing at a church building
and Jamie did not have any template plastic with her.
This was a time when the word
JUGGLE
really came into play.
Stephanie Romney (Stuph From Steph) came up with the best idea!
By working with what we had in the room
Steph taped the paper template
onto the underside of a ruler.
She then cut
3" strips of fabrics.
*the height of the triangle
Within minutes
the exact size of needed
60 degree triangles were created!
How's that for adaptability?

That Steph is brilliant :)
