November Virtual Crop - Class 1 with Mel

Good morning all, welcome to the first class of today's Virtual Crop. This month I worked with the "And Many More" collection from Pink Paislee, one of my layouts is a birthday one to match the theme of the papers but my second is not themed as I like to show the versatility of even a heavily themed collection.

I love clean and simple layouts but I am often guilty of being unable to stop and leave lots of white space so I tried in this layout to be a bit more minimalist. If that's not your thing you can easily adapt and add a bit more with either extra layering, some doodling, mixed media elements or more photos.

Don't forget to come back at 12 for Katherines class and to post your layouts on our Facebook group ATDML # Create

August Virtual Crop Class with Karen

Good morning everyone and welcome to another class, this time using utterly gorgeous Pink Paislee Truly Grateful papers.

I love this range of papers as they are really versatile and I totally love the fact there is a word sheet inc the collection that makes titles an absolute breeze.

The kit was absolutely stuffed with loveliness and so there are three class pages plus you will have loads and loads left over for other projects.

This is just one of the class pages I have for you

I hope that when you play along you will post your pages in our facebook group and I can't wait to see what you create.

You can find the class instructions HERE.

May Virtual crop - Class 4 With Tricia

Good afternoon campers

I hope you are all enjoying this bumper Virtual crop weekend!!

For my class today I'll be using the Pink Paislee '5th and Monaco" range.  This range is fabulously eclectic with decadent accents and touches of gold.  I love the wood accents and bold floral prints.

In the class we will be making use of the different patterns to clash and match, and creating layers that work together to give depth and interest.

Each layout involves creating slices of the paper as features as well as reconstruction some of the die cut embellishments to make them work harder.

You can find the instructions for all the layouts here.

I hope you have enjoyed all the classes and challenges so far this weekend, do come over and share what you have been up to on the ATDML # Create Facebook Page but don't forget to pop  back at 4pm for the last class of the weekend with Ann :)

Happy scrapping!

Class 1 - Friend in Me

Hello and welcome to this, the first class of ATDML's 2019 Summer cyber crop, inspired by the much loved characters and story lines from TOY STORY.

You’ve got a friend in me is the soundtrack of the films and the perfect Toy Story prompt to start the weekend. It is played during the opening credits for Toy Story, Toy Story 3, and Toy Story 4, establishing the importance of Woody and Andy in the first film and the importance of all his toys in the third and fourth. At the end of Toy Story 2, Wheezy starts to sing it to the other toys.

The layouts for this class, as in the films, are all about recognising friendships and relationships, in whatever form they take.  As with the lessons we learn from Toy Story some friendships are for a season only, some forever and some friends don't see each other for years and years but when they do it's like they've never been apart.

Virtual Crop Weekend Challenge - Album Covers Edition 2

Hello and welcome back to the Album Covers Challenge. It was great to see several people joining in and posting their layouts based on The Beach Boys' That's Why God Made The Radio from our January challenge. (It's not too late to go back and have a go at that one!)

This month our album cover is No Doubt's "Tragic Kingdom" Album. It was their third studio album and was released in October 1995 - for me that meant it coincided with my first term in sixth form and I can remember "Don't Speak" one of the tracks on this album playing on our sixth form common room speakers quite a lot!

I am a fan of a big circle so I loved this album cover and, as before I found it helpful to make a sketch to plan my layout. In this instance I substituted a 4x6 photo in place of the foreground figure.

I sorted through and wanted to use some of the Paige Evans Whimsical collection but took nods from the blue and yellow in the album artwork. When it started to come together I had to flip my design so that the photo was on the right and the embellishment cluster on the left as the photo I wanted to use had Olivia looking towards the left and I usually prefer my subject to look towards the middle of the page rather than off to the side.

For the title I dug out some Thickers in a blocky font to match those on the album artwork and, although they didn't make it onto the sketch I noticed the flies on the edge of the circle on the album cover and added some clouds to echo their placement.

I hope this gives you a little inspiration before the Virtual Crop tomorrow. Don't forget to join us tomorrow morning at 10am for our first class. Over on the ATDML # Create Facebook Page we would love to see what you are scrapping and if you have a go at this challenge please do upload it to the Album Covers Challenge Gallery.

Feeling Fringey!

At the retreat I taught a class with the lovely Vicki Boutin "All The Good Things" papers, I had an plan for what I wanted to do for the first layout and then I planned to use strips of the paper in the second layout to create a stripey background.

When I came to assemble the second layout I just couldn't make it work how I wanted and I got a little frustrated - it just seemed really plain and uninspiring. I decided to get out my fringing scissors and have a play - the fringed edges added a lot more texture and created interest and suddenly my page came together quite quickly.

Usually at the retreat I spend most of the day time setting up classrooms, teaching, answering questions about shop items and liaising with the hotel staff about meals, refreshments etc... but in the evening I usually get chance to spend a little time playing with paper myself. To try and make the most of that time I made a few sketches, packed a few bags of product I wanted to use together on a project and matched it up with photos. This time I knew I wanted to make use of those fringing scissors to indulge myself in a little scraplift.

I love this layout by Paige Evans and wanted to make my own version. I precut the LOVE YOU out of a sheet of kraft cardstock using my Silhouette and decided I would use the Pink Paislee range Pick Me Up (designed by Paige Evans) for my version. On hers she cut the letters, added the fringed strips then adhered those to a background, I wanted an easier option so instead I used the negative from the cut words as a top layer on a sheet of white cardstock. This allowed me to add simple strips of fringed paper onto the white and then add the kraft so that the fringing showed through only in the cut areas.

To finish I outlined the letters, added the words Sweet and Heart either side of the photo and a few co-ordinating embellishments.

Don't forget to share your latest creations with us over on the ATDML # Create Facebook page - we love to see what you have been making.

October Virtual Crop - Class 1 with Karen

Well, hello lovely scrappers and welcome to another fun filled day of scrapping.

Up first, I have a two page class using Pink Paislee's C'est La Vie.

The first features a photo taken on a recent visit to London where we found a gorgeous little deli with this cute bicycle outside which cried out for a photo to be taken.

The paper with the roses was begging me to do some 'fussy cutting' and so I obliged!

The second page came about as I thought all the triangles on this paper reminded me of mountains and I had the perfect photo, taken on a recent walking holiday, of my gorgeous fur baby Kiera.

The instructions for my class can be found here.  Remember, even though you may not have the papers I used in this class you can still join in and post your pages on the ATDML # Create Facebook page.

Katherine's class will be up at 12 noon so pop back then to see what delights she has in store for us.

Today I choose Happiness with Pink Paislee

Here is the other line that I picked up at the retreat after a lovely class with Ann - Pink Paislee's C'est La Vie.  Again I gesso'd my cardstock before adding the paper, then cut some banner strips of a mix of width and length - they are mostly around the 2.5 to 3" wide.  I distressed the edges of all of them.  I use a title card and also journal spot from Kaisercrafts #Me collection, and then some of the Websters Pages stickers left over from Mel's class (they are from the passport range).  I'm not a massively floral girl, but prima have these beautiful blue flowers, so since I was in the picture I figured I could floral it up!  The final step was a few gems, and I trimmed the stalks of the smaller flowers so I curled the green wire and added it to my flower bouquet.

Papers designed to be cut....

With Mel's new goodies for Christmas....I realised I had some of the lovely Portfolio range too which I then needed to dig out and have a play with.  The colours are fairly neutral, mainly blue yellow and grey and it is one of the increasing range of papers that are made so you can include them in project life style projects where your pages are made of lots of divided pockets (here is the co-ordinating Pink Paislee book designed for this purpose).  Echo Park has some lovely kits where you get the papers and page protectors together in their Photo Freedom range, as well as Simple Stories whose papers are designed with this in mind and you can get their co-ordinating folders too.  I've noticed that lots of the new CHA goodies are also designed this way so it looks like it is going to be a big thing this year!

So I could have used it to make a Project Life style page (but it is too early in the year for me to have my January photos already printed), instead I wanted to have a go at using all the journal spots and cut outs on my page.  I decided to go for a washing line effect and hang them all from some string at the top - I distressed the edges and used bubble wrap to get the background.  I did add a little more washi tape to the journal spots.  Another fantastic thing about all those journal cards is that I am compelled to write more on my page which is a good thing as that is where a lot of the memory is.
