Freshly Made Sketches #654

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #654!

How fun is this great sketch from Clean Team Designer Jen Mitchell! I was going back and forth between party hats and trees for the triangle shapes. As you can see, trees won this week.

I cut and layered the Tim Holtz Sizzix Forest Shadows dies, trimming them to replicate the triangle shape and fit on an Ellen Hutson Abstract Mountain cover plate. The front trees were cut from a left over embossed panel giving a little extra texture.

The sentiment is pieced together from a couple of Kerri Bradford stamp sets: GreaterYellowstone and Uncharted Territory.

Freshly Made Sketches #653

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #653!

I was so excited to see Clean Team Designer, Kim Singdahlsen's fabulous sketch this week! As the owner of far too many oversized sentiment stamps and dies, the biggest challenge was deciding which one to use.

It wasn't long before a sentiment from Mama Elephant Peace on Earth stamp set made it to the top of my pile.

Layers of pink ink are painted, splattered and blotted on a piece of watercolor paper before the sentiment is stamped with Versamark ink and heat embossed with Ranger gold embossing powder. A scatter of sequins adds a bit more "bright" to the design.

The finished panel is mounted on gold cardstock and popped up on the card base.

Freshly Made Sketches #652

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #652!

What a fun sketch Clean Team Designer, Linda Callahan, has given us this week! I had no shortage of ideas, but did have a shortage of time which ruled out a couple options.

A favorite older Memory Box Sussex Snowflake die provided the circular element and is layered with a Mama Elephant Jingle Greetings sentiment white embossed on vellum. Glitter and soft texture are provided by a strip of Lawn Fawn Pixie Dust paper and the soft aqua fiber.

Freshly Made Sketches #651

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #651!

Our super talented Clean Team leader, Jen Timko, is behind the fun asymmetrical sketch this week! I went through so many ideas and thought I'd settled on feathers and a sympathy card, when I came across the Papertrey Ink Leaf Silhouette dies (yup, I tag and use them as feathers as well as leaves) and switched to a masculine leaning birthday card.

The large die is cut several times to give me options for color blocking the finished leaf. An older PTI Birthday Bash sentiment is stamped on a piece of patterned paper, die cut and inked to blend better with the other colors. The design didn't feel finished until a few stitched leaves leftover from another project were layered under the large focal point leaf.

Freshly Made Sketches #650

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #650!

Our fabulous sketch this week is from the super talented Clean Team Designer, Judy Rozema! There are so many ways to go with this trio of horizontal panels and I ended up combining two ideas. The first was using an ombre color block and the second was to take advantage of a never before used  MFT  Tri-Frame Cover Up die.

The MFT Cloud stencil is used to ink clouds onto a white panel in an ombre pattern and then cut with the tri-frame die.  A second frame die is cut and the outline only is adhered to a white panel. The white heat embossed MFT Deepest Sympathy sentiment is added to darkest blue inked panel before all three ombre pieces are popped up over the openings in the white frame.

A white Penny Black Bashful Flower die cut is draped over the three panels to finish the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #649

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #649!

I adore this fabulous sketch from Clean Team designer, Amy O'Neill! The horizontal strips had me looking through my washi collections, especially the growing number of Christmas themed washi that I just can't seem to resist.

It was the fun musical Santa tape that made the cut first and then a couple more tapes from the same Simple Stories Simple Vintage Dear Santa set were added to complete the horizontal element. The tapes were adhered to white cardstock and overlapped before being adhered to the snowflake embossed panel.

A snowflake die cut is embellished with Baker's Twine and a trio of jingle bells before being popped up on the panel to finish the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #648

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #648!

So many ideas were spinning in my head for this fabulous sketch from the queen of layered designs, Narelle Farrugia! The butterflies won out as I decided to make a brighter than normal (for me) sympathy card.

Each butterfly is made up by stacking two Poppystamps Cheviot Butterfly die cuts with a Poppystamps Delaney Butterfly die cut. The vellum Cheviots are colored with Copic markers for a rainbow effect and topped with the white Delaney butterflies.

A panel is embossed with the Lifestyle Crafts large dot embossing folder and the MFT From All of Us sentiment strip added along the bottom first, then three white Cheviot butterflies are adhered to the panel. The colored butterflies are adhered in the center only with a glue dot so the wings can lift.

Freshly Made Sketches #647

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #647!

I saw a quilt in super talented Clean Team Designer Karren Johnson's fabulous sketch this week so that had me poking through my stash of patterned paper pads. Wanting something bright and happy, I paired a couple of Jen Hadfield pieces with a green gingham from My Favorite Things.

The papers were cut with stitched rectangle dies with the intention to adjust them to fit together to replicate the sketch. When I laid them out, I liked the way they overlapped and decided to adher them in place as is.

The Ellen Hutson Oval Hoops die is cut from Lawn Fawn woodgrain paper and adhered over an oval based stamped with an Avery Elle Sending You sentiment. This sentiment hoop is popped up over the rectangle pieces. A scatter of sequins finish off the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #646

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #646!

I can't tell you how happy I am to be back creating! The Memory Box Elegant Shorebird dies were the first thing I thought of when I saw the vertical lines in the amazing Clean Team Designer Cècile Ribon's fabulous sketch this week.

The circle, of course, is the sun and then I playing with a few ideas for the front flower element before deciding on the Simply Graphic Chapeaux D'été (Summer Hats). The ribbon die cut is replaced with a bit of real sheer ribbon for a little texture.

Before adhering all the die cuts a sweet sentiment from Kerri Bradford's Salt Water Soul stamp set was added to the square panel.

I've being missing from the challenge while battling endometrial cancer and am so happy to be at the end of a very successful treatment plan. The beach has always been my happy place and I've been lucky enough to get a little walk and wave therapy regularly over the last few months (I'm in the middle with my son and visiting sister for this one).

I hope you join in the fun with us at Freshly Made Sketches this week!

Freshly Made Sketches #622

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #622!

Super talented Clean Team designer, Jen Mitchell, has provided a fun sketch this week! It was easy to pivot to a quick and easy birthday card after my daughter poked through my stash looking for something pink without success.

A piece of MFT patterned paper is cut for a base panel and then a smaller rectangle measured and cut from it for the smaller panel. This smaller piece is adhered to a bright pink rectangle and popped up over the base piece with foam adhesive.

The MFT Hand Lettered Happy Birthday die is cut from white and two shades of pink cardstock. I played around a bit with the order before decided the darkest pink on top look best. A simple strip of pom-pom trim finishes the card.

Freshly Made Sketches #621

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #621!

The sketch this week comes from our talented Clean Team leader, Jen Timko! It took me a bit of time to decide what I wanted to do with the circle elements. I knew the middle circle would be a heart pretty quickly, but it took time for me to reach for the MFT High-Rise Alphabet dies and pull out the "X" for another hugs & kisses design this week.

I fully intended to make a square card, but pulled out a rectangle panel to selectively emboss with the Taylored Expressions Heart to Heart stencil. The Hero Arts molding paste is colored with Festive Berries Distress Ink first.

While the paste dried, the vellum heart is attached to the Xs. I pulled out both an older Making Memories stapler with red staples and the smaller Tiny Attacher. Even though I decided to stick with the smaller staples, somehow, I ended up accidentally using both. This trio is attached to the panel with glue dots in the center of each X to allow a bit of movement and the feeling they are floating.

The Poppystamps Sentiments of Love die finishes the panel which is popped up on the card front.

Freshly Made Sketches #620

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #620!

I am hosting the challenge this week and created a sketch that allows for a lot of flexibility. The circles can be any shape, hold a sentiment or focal design element: really pretty much anything goes!

The MFT Love You Gnome Matter What image is stamped on white cardstock, colored with Copic markers and then masked to allow a pale sky background to be blended behind it. The finished panel is cut out with a Stitched Circle die and mounted on the red MFT Stitched Mini-Scallop circle

The "XO" Alphabet die cuts provides a simple sentiment and finishes the design.

Freshly Made Sketches #619

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #619!

I love this fabulous sketch designed by our super talented Judy Rozema! I knew almost immediately that I wanted to create something with a postage stamp look for the square element, but went through numerous ideas and color palettes before settling on this red, white and blue design.

A happy find was the airmail stripe image in an older Simon Says Stamp Sending Happy Thoughts stamp set to use for the vertical element. It is stamped in red first and then the strip was shifted to stamp the blue.

The postage stamp is created using images from Kerri Bradford Southern California stamp set and cut with a Spellbinders die. The SSS Sending die cut layered over the stamp provides the first half of the sentiment and an MFT Bitty Birthday Wishes finishes it off.

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #618!

The always elegant Clean Team designer, Cécile Ribon, has given us a lovely sketch to work with this week! As you can see, I interpreted it very literally.

After playing around with a few brushstroke stamps and different color palettes, I settled on the MFT Paint Strokes stencil and Altenew shades of green inks to create a base for the The Stamp Market Greenery image. It and the Technique Tuesday So Sorry sentiment are added with Versamark ink. The simple panel is popped up on a white card base for a bit of interest and dimension.

Freshly Made Sketches #617

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #617!

Happy New Year and welcome to our first sketch of 2024 from the Clean Team designer and queen of layering, Narelle Farrugia! It really is a coincidence that the Papertrey Ink She Moves stamps were sitting on my desk the same week many of us are renewing health and fitness commitments. It is in the pile of "use it or donate" stamps and I think it earned a place in the "keep" pile.

The trio of images were perfect for the sketch. Scraps of white cardstock are inked in three shades of blue and die cut before the images are added in black and lined up to sit on the sentiment strip. The Ali Edwards Progress Story stamp provides an encouraging sentiment.
