Freshly Made Sketches #654

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #654!

How fun is this great sketch from Clean Team Designer Jen Mitchell! I was going back and forth between party hats and trees for the triangle shapes. As you can see, trees won this week.

I cut and layered the Tim Holtz Sizzix Forest Shadows dies, trimming them to replicate the triangle shape and fit on an Ellen Hutson Abstract Mountain cover plate. The front trees were cut from a left over embossed panel giving a little extra texture.

The sentiment is pieced together from a couple of Kerri Bradford stamp sets: GreaterYellowstone and Uncharted Territory.

Freshly Made Sketches #647

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #647!

I saw a quilt in super talented Clean Team Designer Karren Johnson's fabulous sketch this week so that had me poking through my stash of patterned paper pads. Wanting something bright and happy, I paired a couple of Jen Hadfield pieces with a green gingham from My Favorite Things.

The papers were cut with stitched rectangle dies with the intention to adjust them to fit together to replicate the sketch. When I laid them out, I liked the way they overlapped and decided to adher them in place as is.

The Ellen Hutson Oval Hoops die is cut from Lawn Fawn woodgrain paper and adhered over an oval based stamped with an Avery Elle Sending You sentiment. This sentiment hoop is popped up over the rectangle pieces. A scatter of sequins finish off the design.

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #618!

The always elegant Clean Team designer, Cécile Ribon, has given us a lovely sketch to work with this week! As you can see, I interpreted it very literally.

After playing around with a few brushstroke stamps and different color palettes, I settled on the MFT Paint Strokes stencil and Altenew shades of green inks to create a base for the The Stamp Market Greenery image. It and the Technique Tuesday So Sorry sentiment are added with Versamark ink. The simple panel is popped up on a white card base for a bit of interest and dimension.

Freshly Made Sketches #617

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #617!

Happy New Year and welcome to our first sketch of 2024 from the Clean Team designer and queen of layering, Narelle Farrugia! It really is a coincidence that the Papertrey Ink She Moves stamps were sitting on my desk the same week many of us are renewing health and fitness commitments. It is in the pile of "use it or donate" stamps and I think it earned a place in the "keep" pile.

The trio of images were perfect for the sketch. Scraps of white cardstock are inked in three shades of blue and die cut before the images are added in black and lined up to sit on the sentiment strip. The Ali Edwards Progress Story stamp provides an encouraging sentiment.

Freshly Made Sketches #588

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #588!

I still had a few summer stamps and dies on my desk when I saw the terrific sketch from Jen Mitchell this week. To tell the truth, our normal SoCal weather has been so dreary that I am missing my happy place and wave therapy, so living through these images until our sun decides to return.

An MFT cloud stencil and blue inks were used to create the gentle ocean waves on half of a cream panel, leaving the uncolored part to play the role of the sandy beach. An older MFT umbrella die is decked out in rainbow colors and popped up over the MFT Life's A Beach sentiment.

Freshly Made Sketches #582

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #582!

Clean Team designer Karren Johnston has given us a great sketch to work with this week! My design started from the base up as I wanted to play around with The Stamp Market Star Sprinkle stencil and TCW Shimmery Goodness molding paste.

The largest MFT Stax Star die is cut from gold shimmer paper and a slightly large star hand cut from white shimmer paper to layer over the shimmer star panel. I was happily impressed with how well it worked to gold emboss the MFT Yay to You sentiment on a strip of the shimmer paper.  A few Pretty Pink Posh jewels were scattered over the panel for a little extra shine.

Freshly Made Sketches #579

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #579!

Jen Timko is the Clean Team designer behind the fabulous sketch this week! I cut a larger MFT Mini Scalloped Stitched Oval first before deciding to go a size smaller and extending the oval visually by surrounding it with a rainbow of leaf die cuts.

To keep things simple, one die was used to cut five leaves in rainbow colors and a second one used to cut the same colors in a lighter shade. An oval was penciled onto the panel and the darker die cuts spaced around it first and the the lighter die cuts filled in the space between them.

The Simon Says Stamp Sending Happy Thoughts sentiment is stamped onto the oval and the smaller sentiment head embossed and added. The sentiment oval looked a little bare, so a flower die cut was added and surrounded by a few sequins. More sequins were scattered around the rainbow oval before the center panel was popped up over them.

Freshly Made Sketches #578

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #578!

I am hosting the sketch this week and came up with something simple that allows a lot of creative leeway for our card making friends!

I started with the PTI Penned Elegance sentiment and Simply Graphic Full Flowers (duo fleurs pleines) dies that remind me of the orange California poppies that were on their way to an all out superbloom again this year until another atmospheric river hit us.

For a bit of interest, the orange panel is embossed with Taylored Expressions Rosy Posey folder, a section cut out and the two remaining pieces popped up over the card base. A couple of white flowers are added to the channel for even more texture and interest.

Freshly Made Sketches #574

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #574!

Can I confess that diagonal lines usually put me in a panic? I don't know why, because Jen Brum's sketch is perfect for using strips of patterned paper, washi tape or border dies and punches, whether as the main design or to create a base for a cluster element, but for some reason my creative mojo goes into a panic when I see them.

It was thinking about a family member moving through the final push of a major milestone that had me searching for an old favorite Altenew Figure Effects stamp set and Zig Real Brush Markers this week.

The image and sentiment were heat embossed on a watercolor paper panel and a section masked off to color in the path next. Once the diagonal line was established it was easy to add the grass and sky sections without further masking.

CASology Challenge #404: RIDE

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #404!

I went in many different directions (bikes, amusement parks, cars, trains, planes, etc.) before settling on riding the waves as inspiration for my card this month. The beach is my happy place and I am lucky enough to watch surfers ride the waves several times a week.

The Kerri Bradford Waves stamp set provided both the sweet surfboard and sentiment for this card. My Tim Holtz stamp platform is indispensable in creating the evenly spaced images and lining everything up perfectly. The boards are colored with Copic Markers and the panel popped up on a white card base.

I hope you check out the amazing design team creations and play along with us this month!

CASology Challenge #394: MASK

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #394!

After a year plus of mask having a very defined meaning, it took me a minute to think of what else I could do with the cue word this week. A quick check with my Evernote inventory reminded me about the PTI Superhero Stamps and dies and this card quickly came together.

I did play around a bit with the colors and pulled a starburst stamp from the PTI Zappy Birthday set to layer with the dots before deciding to stick to a yellow, black and white palette.

I don't think I shared here the Christmas card sent to most family and friends last year, which also fits the mask challenge. The Spellbinders Santa is wearing a pale blue crepe paper mask creating using an oval die cut.

Check out the terrific design team cards and join in the fun this month!

CASology Challenge #392

 Welcome to CASology Challenge #392!

I was drawn immediately to this sentiment from the Ranger Dylusions  Clearly the Right Words stamp set as I looked through any stamps or dies that included "strength" or "strong" for a card this week.

My original plan was to mask braver, stronger, smarter and loved so I could stamp them in different colors. It became obvious this wasn't going to work with the outline box and tiny spaces, so Plan B was to stamp and heat emboss the whole sentiment and swipe color on after using Zig Real Brush Markers.

Check out the fabulous design team cards!

Freshly Made Sketches #484

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #484!

I love that Clean Team Designer Amy O'Neill created a sketch with the idea of a favorite die cut taking center stage! I have a few favorites, but after spending time last week repotting our olive grove, I knew I was going to do something with this sweet Memory Box Small Olive Branch die.

The PTI Choose Joy sentiment is masked to allow for the two color stamping and the die cut colored with Copic markers.  The sentiment panel is popped up over a soft gray stamped Concord & 9th Tree Ring background.

My husband always dreamed of having an olive grove and ours started with a single plant from Trader Joe's that gave us a single olive to harvest last year. When I saw the olive trees (shrubs?) in the store again  I filled my cart and we have high hopes for a bigger harvest.

Freshly Made Sketches #452

Welcome to Freshly Made Sketches #452!

My original plan was to use tropical leaves on my card given Amy's fabulous sketch,  but sweltering in a heat wave this past weekend had me longing for my childhood fall that involved a ginormous maple tree in the front yard. I don't miss raking leaves but I do miss the crisp air and changing colors.

Orange and red Distress Inks are used to color a white panel before the Lawn Fawn Stitched Leaves are die cut and layered on the Taylored Expressions Brick embossed panel. The sentiment is from Ida Rose You Got This and has been sitting on my desk since it came home with me from Copic Boot Camp in January. I am so grateful to have had that little trip with a few of my crafting friends before the world screeched to a halt a few weeks later.
