Tuesday Trigger: Apache Tears in the Key of Autumn & Simon Says Stamp

The Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger is one of my favorite challenges. Sometimes I need to let the image roll around in my brain a few days before an idea comes to me but this week, as soon as I saw the Trigger image, I was flipping through my embossing folders for one that just seems to be made for the challenge.

This is the first time I have used this Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder and I really love the way the card turned out. I stapled a simple "thanks" on the bottom corner because I didn't want to cover up the warm pattern and gorgeous colors.

Because I used a clear sentiment stamp, I am linking this card to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge to use a rubber or clear stamp.

Tuesday Trigger: Honoring Ombre + Avery Elle August Challenge + Simon Says

When Cath at Moxie Fab World posted the Tuesday Trigger : Honoring Ombre yesterday, it gave me the final push to make this card for the Avery Elle August Sketch Challenge.

This is my first time entering the Avery Elle challenge, but I have their delightful Bonjour stamp set and really wanted to play with it.

I took a little poetic license with the sketch, changing the orientation and pulling the long vertical panel in front of the square panel.

The inside lines of the macaroon outline stamp are masked to create the perfect frame for the sentiment. The crepe paper adds texture and mimics the idea of a box of macaroons being packaged at the local patisserie.

I used three Memento inks to create the ombre effect: Angel Pink, Lulu Lavender and Rose Bud. I played around a little bit with scrap paper and combining layers of ink until I had the color profiles I wanted before creating my masked tower.

The centers of the macaroons were filled with an Ice White Viva Pearl Pen - they are more white in real life, but coming across as a bit silver in the photos.

I'm editing this post because Simon Says . . .  Anything Goes at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog this week, so I am linking this card to their challenge as well.

Tuesday Trigger: I'm Craving Navy + Monday Mood Board #19

One thing I absolutely love about the Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World is Cath really does a great job of mixing it up with the images. Last week the Trigger image was pastel collage, this week we have  a classic navy & white image for the Tuesday Trigger: I'm Craving Navy. Now, after wearing a navy & white uniform while working summers for our local ferry system during my university years, navy & white will always mean "nautical" to me.

I don't have a great nautical set, but am really craving the new Dockside sets of stamps and dies from Wplus9, so can't resist combining the Tuesday Trigger with the Monday Mood Board #19.

The navy & white, plus a little gold and a lot of stripes were pulled together to create this card.

I inked, heat embossed and die cut the sentiment from Wplus9's Written on Ribbon stamp set. The white panel was embossed with a Sizzix striped embossing folder and then, realizing there isn't much nautical in my card afterall,  a "porthole" was cut to provide a resting spot for the sentiment.

I used the same striped embossing folder on the front of the card base and lined up the panel so that the stripes alternated - a raised white stripe was lined up with an inset navy stripe. I love the look, but it was really tough to photograph.

A little ink was added along the side edges of the white panel and the "porthole" and heat embossed too.

The card seemed to need a little something more, so I dug around the ribbon basket and was thrilled to find this sheer shimmery piece. A few sequins were the finishing touch.

Make It Monday #128 + Tuesday Trigger + Paper Smooches

I have a few cards to share with you that I have worked on over the last few days.

I made a panel for PTI"s Make It Monday #128: Stamping Random Background Patterns with the confetti stamp from Birthday Style using four different inks and then wasn't sure what to do with. I had been thinking of a birthday card, but it just wasn't coming together for me, so I put it aside.

After flipping through my PTI dies this morning, I decided to try a partial die cut of the "thankful" die and the card came together pretty quickly after that.

I absolutely love the image Cath has given us for the Tuesday Trigger: It's Completely Collagical!

The colors stood out to me more than the images and I was reminded of some older Prima paper that I knew was kicking around the office somewhere. I rarely use 12x12 patterned paper these days, but have so many favorites that I still hoard and occassionally thumb through.

The papers have so much going on that I really only needed to selectively trim them and add a simple sentiment.

My last card is for the Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge Trend Watch: Sheer and Clear and this inspiration photo.

I stamped the balloons from Hullabaloo on several shades of pink & purple vellum scraps and fussy cut them out. A touch of liquid adhesive along the black outline was enough to adhere them to the panel.

TT: A Little Romance + PS Cool Shades & SSS By the Sea & CCIC Feeling Nautical

There are a few challenges that I wanted to participate in this week, so worked to fit in bits & pieces of crafting time today. The house is now quiet, but I am "on call" to pick up my daughter & friends, so will post this as quick as I can.

This first card is for the Tuesday Trigger: A Little Romance at Moxie Fab World. Cath has done it again with another fantastic inspiration image.

My mind immediately went to vellum, buttons & lace trim. The sentiment is created with a few Technique Tuesday stamps and heat embossed on the soft green vellum. This vellum overlay is only adhered to the card base along the left edge.

A soft dandelion image is stamped & embossed on the card base and peeks through the vellum.

A mix of white, cream and MFT Sno Cone buttons were placed first and pearls filled in the blank space.

My second card has a completely different feel to it. The Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge is Cool Shades this week.

The Curtain Call straw hat in the inspiration photo gave me the idea to use fabric for the kraft color on the card, so a little burlap backs the sailboat.

My favortie inks right now are from My Favorite Things - the coverage is truly amazing!

I'm heading back to the office to play until family duties call again.

Tuesday Trigger + Make It Monday + retrosketches

It seems like forever since I have participated in Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday challenge. This week Ashley demonstrated how to use reinkers and gesso to make custom paints. You can check out the video tutorial here at Make It Monday #123: Making Your Own Paint.

I used the retrosketch #70 for the card design and the Tuesday Trigger: Scene in Tangerine for my color palette and idea to use fabric on the card.

The first step was to die cut a few burlap flowers and leaves, then I started playing around with the ink & gesso. Orange Zest, Summer Sunrise and Simply Charteuse were the PTI inks I used, along with Mustard Seed Distress Ink.

I originally cut natural burlap, but thought the colors were a bit muddy when painted on, so dug through my fabric to find a white burlap. The same Happiness in Bloom stamp & die sets were used to cut a couple of cardstock flowers and leaves. The sentiment is from Bountiful Banners.

A Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder mimics the weave of the burlap and adds more texture to the card. My 14 year old son came in when I had everything done except the sentiment - he thought there was too much white space and it should go on the embossed panel, but I really wanted to tuck the sentiment tag in the flowers. Was he right?

Paper Smooches + Tuesday Trigger + Retrosketches + Make It Monday

I had a very productive time in the office this morning.

First up is a card I made for the Paper Smooches Spark Trend Watch challenge to be inspired by this collage of photos and use gold on a project.

I pulled out the gold glitter embossing powder and some shimmer cardstock to make this card.

I did try to stamp & emboss on a white shimmer star, but the embossing powder was not co-operating, so I ended up using regular cardstock for the center star.

The embossing powder worked just fine on the vellum banner that finishes off the sentiment.

Next up are a couple of cards for this week's Tuesday Trigger: All Sweetness & Light at Moxie Fab World. Cath has done it again with an amazing inspiration photo. I'd LOVE to have this bedding in my room, but I think it is a little too feminine for my husband.

I was inspired by the colors, the font on the "A" on the nightstand and the white pompoms on the duvet cover.

The design of this card came from this week's retrosketch.

Because I used the negative of my letter die cut on this card, I had the word "thank" sitting on my desk begging to be used, so I made another quick card for the Tuesday Trigger.

Once again, the colors are a big part of the inspiration, but on this card I embossed the main panel to mimic the colorful quilt in the photo.

With a number of scraps on my desk and a graduation party to attend this weekend, I couldn't help making another card for the Make It Monday: Flagged Borders challenge from Dawn McVey at Capture the Moment.

The sentiment is from PTI's Birthday Bash Sentiments stamp set and the flags are cut with the Sketched Shapes dies.

I hope you were able to have some creative fun today!

CAS(e) This Sketch + Tuesday Trigger Take Two + Simon Says

I was sure I had feathers in my stash somewhere, but the only ones I could put my hand on yesterday when making my card for the Tuesday Trigger were red.

I couldn't get the idea of using feathers out of my head, so did the only thing that made sense and started searching Pinterest for a paper feather template. I found this neat one  - the feathers were bigger than what I wanted, but I love the basic shapes and used them to help create this card.

The feathers & colors are inspired by the Tuesday Trigger: Feather Weather and the design comes from the CAS(E) this Sketch challenge.

Once again, because Simon Says . . . Anything Goes!, I am also linking this card up to the Simon Says Stamp challenge blog.

Tuesday Trigger: Feather Weather + Simon Says . . . Anything Goes!

Cath at Moxie Fab World has given us another great inspiration photo for the Tuesday Trigger: Feather Weather.

My eye was immediately drawn to the colors of the birds, so that is where I started with this card. I used green, yellow & blue inks to create a watercolor panel and then mounted a white three window panel over it.

A wood veneer bird is nestled in the corner of each window and a die cut branch adhered along the edge.

A tag caught in the branch holds one of my favorite Technique Tuesday stamps and a little white fiber finishes it off.

Because Simon Says . . .  Anything Goes! over at Simon Says Stamp this week, I am also linking this card up there.

Tuesday Trigger: Right on Target Card Set + Muse #17 & CASual Fridays 101

First up today is my card for Muse #17 and the challenge to be inspired by this sweet card from Therese Calvird.

I am a complete sucker for googly eyes and this one has eyelashes! As much as I wanted to, I could not find a stamp in my collection that would work with google eyes, so I focussed on a repeat of the image and the word banner to create this card that may go to my daughter when she gets her driver's permit.

I stamped the bug on designer paper and then die cut the image (LOVE how easy it is to this with Tayored Expressions dies!), colored in the tires and fussy cut out the windows. I will admit I didn't see the CAS-ual Fridays post until after I finished this card, but am still going to link it up to their challenge to stamp on designer paper.

Next up is a card for the Tuesday Trigger: Right on Target at Moxie Fab World. I love the colors and asymmetry of this image.

Quite quickly, the Nestabilities Circle dies were out and I was trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go,

In order to get the color profile I wanted, I cut six sets of circles from designer paper. Because of the way I planned to make this card, I was going to end up with enough pieces to make another five cards. Since Cath also has a Card Set Challenge going on at Moxie Fab World, the full set and gift bag are being entered in that challenge.

Once I had my targets assembled, I made a pattern to cut the circles in 6 pieces of varying size. The pieces were shuffled and circles recreated.

Alternate pieces are popped up with foam adhesive and a jeweled brad placed in the middle.

Banners were inked and stamped with either "Thank You" or "Celebrate Today".

Using the same Simple Stories paper line, I made a gift bag to hold the cards.
