Quilt Mary Ann Poter: the beginning

Hi everyone, I know you are thinking about new Christmas projects like me , so I will do someone in Xmas style later too. But I wanted to show you something  especial and really nice I was waiting to start in autumn- winter time. This is my beautiful Mary Ann Poter quilt that I´m designing right now using Sizzix dies. It will be a big quilt , maybe a queen size for our bed. I´m exciting about this experience and I hope to share with you during next weeks too. 
It´s growing slowly but sure and I love it!!
It has been a long time since I started to sew yo- yos and  hexagons and now it´s a cozy time at home to plan how it will be. 
First I chose a central panel from one of the beautiful fabrics by Blackbird, one of my favorite designers, added some laces  and yoyos in the corners ........

Then  I added  a first border with triangles and squares in the corners, then a second border with more laces and yoyos......

..... And here it is my progress. I love that antique stye I ´m getting as I wanted.......

It´s time to choose how  planning the third  border........ I had to look for a new lace ( I try not repeating )   with the perfect size..... and bingo !! I found it in a village next mine!

Now I have to finish the round with some yoyos and start the next one.

It will be a long project, I know but I have to say I´m enjoying a lot and just I need more time to decide what Sizzix dies will be the next one !!

¡  Hola a todo el mundo ! Me imagino que ya estas pensando en nuevos proyectos para las navidades como yo. Haré alguno en ese estilo también y te lo contaré. Pero hoy quiero traerte algo especial y realmente bonito que acabo de empezar y que quería hacer para la época de otoño –invierno.

Se trata del nuevo quilt que estoy diseñando y que se llama Mary Ann Poter. Será un gran quilt, quizá para nuestra cama de matrimonio.

Estoy muy ilusionada con esta nueva experiencia y espero compartirla a lo largo de las siguientes semanas.

De momento va creciendo despacito pero con buen pie, ¡ y me encanta !

Hace ya tiempo que empecé a preparar los yo- yos y los hexágonos  y por fin ha llegado este tiempo para estar en casa y planear cómo irá avanzando.

Lo primero que hice fue elegir un panel de una de las telas de Blackbird, una de mis diseñadoras favoritas, y añadí algo de tira bordada alrededor con yo yos en las esquinas.

Añadí un primer borde con triángulos y cuadrados en las esquinas, luego un segundo con más puntilla y yoyos.

En las fotos puedes ver mis progresos hasta el momento. Me encanta el estilo antiguo que está teniendo tal y como yo quería …….

Ahora estoy planeando el tercer borde …… Tuve que buscar un  nuevo modelo de tira bordada porque no quiero repetir, y ¡por fin lo encontré en una ciudad cercana a la mía!

A fabric cover for my patchwork folder

Thanks  this new adventures with Sizzix , I needed something to schedule my projects. I love notebooks and then I decided to try one of the applique dies . 

Heart is one of my favourite , so I planned a fabric cover for a folder I had bought for it.

I´m in love with  Lecien prints, they are so romantic and so beautiful that I couldn ´t  resist to one of the last collections called " Flower Sugar" , do you know it ? 

I choose the white and the blue one with some of my linen to make my fabric cover.

Binder  ( mine is 8.5"x 9 3/4 " )
White, ecru or cream  linen 10"x11"
Flower Sugar fabric by Lecien ( white background) :
 13" x 11" for the cover
 2" x 23" for a part of the lining
1"x 11" sewing in one the flaps

9.5"x 23" for the lining
6" x 3.5" for the heart

I have took the size of my binder before. You must to adjust your size to yours. All the measures I give you  include seams.
First  sew the linen with the white fabric and  lay  the lace between them. Press and  handwrite the message with Frixion pen ( for the love of patchwork  ) . Onto the wrong side put the batting and do the   quilting. You can clean the pen just iroining over it.

Now go for the heart using the Big Shot machine and the Heart die. I have chose the big one. Don´t forget to iron the double fusible on the back  side of the blue fabric. Center the heart using a template before and pin.

Cut and iron on the linen. 

 Sew around the heart with the same colour thread  you used in the quilting . The ribbon must be down before sewing.
On the right side of the linen stitch a fabric strip  ( 1"x 11" ) with a decorative stitch. This will be in the left flat.
Take a look to the pictures to  make an idea.

Sew the blue fabric with the other white and you will have the lining .

Lay right side together, lining and cover , and sew around  leaving without sewing a little.

Turn the right side and finish by hand.

Do the flats  ( 2" width each one) and sew top and bottom

Now do the finishing adding the ribbon to close and tie and maybe some button if you want. 

And here it is my practical journal where I do my plans, ideas , take notes, pics of the finished projects , and everything  just done with Sizzix Dies !!!!

Gracias a esta nueva aventura con Sizzix, me vi en la necesidad de tener algo para programar mis proyectos. Ya sabéis que me  encantan los cuadernos y decidí probar con uno de mis troqueles preferidos, el corazones primitivos, en una funda para un archivador que había comprado.

Me encantan las telas de Lecien , siempre con este toque romántico y tan bonito. No pude resistirme a una de sus últimas colecciones llamada “ Flower Sugar “, ¿la conoces ?

Elegí dos de sus telas , una con el fondo en blanco  y otra en azul. Ambas tienen unos estampados preciosos de rosas.

Materiales :

Un archivador pequeño, el mío mide 22cm x 24.5cm comprado en Lecrerc

25.5 cm x 24.5 cm de lino crudo

 Tela Flower Sugar de Lecien ( fondo blanco ) :

34.5 cm x 28cm para la parte exterior.

5cm  x 58.5 cm para una parte del forro

2.5 cm x28 cm para una tira cosida en una de las solapas.

15cm x 9 cm para el corazón

Bolígrafo Frixion

Antes de empezar toma las medidas de tu archivador para ajustar. Las que yo indico ya  llevan incluídas las costuras.

Primero cose el lino con la tela blanca , colocando en un extremo la puntilla entre ambas telas , puedes ayudarte de alfileres. Plancha por el derecho y escribe a mano  en el lino tu mensaje con el boli.Coloca la guata debajo dejando el derecho escrito listo para bordar. Puedes sujetar con alfileres. 

Luego haz el bordado. El mío ha sido libre. La marca desaparecerá con la plancha. 

Ahora haz el corazón con la máquina Big Shot y el troquel del corazón, en este caso el grande. Pon la entretela de doble cara por el revés, situa una plantilla de corazón en papel para centrar la flor.

Corta y plánchalo  sober el lino. Borda alrededor habiendo colocado antes una parte de la cinta que luego cerrará el archivador.

En el lado derecho del lino cose la tira estrecha para adornar y haz una puntada decorativa. Esta parte será la solapa izquierda.

Cose la tela azul con la otra blanca y formarás con las dos  el forro.

Sitúala revés con revés y cose alrededor dejando una parte libre para dar la vuelta y luego rematar a mano.

Dobla hacia el interior para hacer las solapas  ( 5cm  de ancha) Cose toda la parte superior e inferior lo más cerca del borde que puedas.

Termina añadiendo la otra cinta cosida por detrás a mano y sobre la que pondrás un botón.

Coloca los adornos que quieras como algunos botones más o trocito de  cinta.

Y aquí mi práctico cuaderno  para anotar mis planes, ideas, fotos de mis proyectos ,y todos hechos con los troqueles de Sizzix!!

Espero que esta sea una buena manera para tener todos tus proyectos  guardados  en un bonito sitio , listos para trabajar.

Spool quilt

Hi! Here it´s Mercedes again in her second post. Go for it.

Do you remember the spool I did before ? Ok, here it´s what I have done , a nice coloful  and spring spool quilt with a touch of vintage. 

As I said before, I sew a short white lace in the middle of the spool and now I have add  another more for the border. Really I love  the effect of this quick quilt that I have done using Sizzix dies.

White fabric

32" fabric and   batting  for backing 

70 " short white lace for spools

94"  wide white  lace for the border

Gütermann White 40  cotton thread for quilting 

First I sew the spool block, a total of 15 units. I told you  here . Don´t forget to add the lace in the cental block before to sew  to the top and botton of the spool .

Then, I cut  the rectangles pieces to do the outside border. Just sew them one to other  alternating different fabrics. You need to do  it for the four borders. 

So , sew the  spool blocks. I did three across together changing the direction of each spool and continued adding four more rounds . Be careful with that directions. Finally you get three blooks across and five down. 

Now it´s the time to add around  the 2  1 /2 " border  ( 2" finished ) with the lace. Put the lace between the top and the fabric border and sew all together. You can use pins  if you want .

Sew the previous rectangles that were  sewn together and prepare the sandwitch for the out side border.

Quilt as  you prefer. I did two different ways, one for the spool and border  and other for the back in white fabric and rectangles. 

I used the same vichi fabric for the binding.

It´s great how  quick you can do this kind of quilt using the dies. Before you think you are quilting  it !!

My quilt is 29" x 40"

¡Hola! Aquí de nuevo Mercedes  en su  segundo artículo. Vamos a por ello. ¿Os acordáis  el bloque con forma de bobina que hice la semana pasada? Os comenté que estaba preparando un quilt y ya lo tenéis aquí, un alegre y primaveral  quilt de carretes con un toque vintage.

Como os dije antes, cosí una puntilla en el medio del carrete , en la parte superior e inferior y ahora he añadido otra más al borde. Me encanta el efecto final de este rápido quilt  gracias a  los troqueles de Sizzix que hacen el trabajo  de corte más sencillo..

 Vamos a ver los materiales y cómo lo he montado.

Telas  de  distintos estampados en colores pastel

Tela blanca, para el fondo.

82cm  tela y guata para la trasera

1.75 cm de puntilla blanca estrecha para los carretes

2.40 cm de puntilla blanca ancha para el borde

Hilo Güterman blanco  de algodón del 40 para acolchar

Primero cosí los bloques carrete , con un total de 15. Te lo conté aquí. No olvides añadir la puntilla antes de coser la parte de arriba y de abajo del carrete..

Luego corté rectángulos para el borde exterior. Cóselo unos a otros  alternando los estampados.. Necesitas un total de cuatro  bordes

Cose los bloques de los carretes unos a otros  en un total de tres por  tira. Luego añade otra más y así hasta un total de 3 bloques por 5. Corta  el borde de tela de cuadritos de 2 1/2 “ de ancha y cose alrededor junto con la puntilla ancha.Colócala entre el top y la tira del borde. Puedes usar alfileres para sujetar.

Cose a ese borde las tiras de los rectángulos cosidos previamente y prepara el sandwich con la guata para acolchar.

Acolcha como quieras. Yo usé dos acolchados distintos, uno para los carretes  y el borde de tela vichí , haciendo  curvitas que de vez en cuando se retorcían y otro  en curvitas solo para el fondo en la tela blanca y en el borde exterior de rectángulos.

Es estupendo ver lo rápido que puedes montar el quilt  y cómo estás acolchando antes de que te des cuenta.

Mi quilt mide  74 cm x 102 cm
