Never waste a map!

Hi everybody!

When I get after a few days of vacation, in my suitcase always comes some maps and tourist brochures.

My craft tip of the day is: you ought never throwing away the maps! Because you can create nice things with them.

They are great for scrapbooking and card making! This time I've created three cards that I love.

You can see, one by one, the three cards that I created with a map that I was no longer useful.

The Hello card.

The Destination card.

and the Together card.

So, now you know it! Maps are great for your paper crafts; from now you will never look the maps the same way. Never waste a map!

This are the Sizzix products used in this project:

---------------------

I add layers - because I can!

Hi again friends!
Today I'm sharing with you one of my newest paper layouts - all covered in my favorite colors of Archival Inks, Distress Inks and sprays... I just love this way of creating, when I keep using bits and pieces which are around, on my table, waiting to be used. I hate throwing away things - they can be used for a project, right? Small pieces of paper and cardboard are great for Die-cutting - that's why I always put them aside. I've also made a basket for my cut-out pieces and leftovers... hmmm crazy enough?

As you can see I've gone really crazy with layers (why not, right?)
There are paper strips and pieces (7 Dots Studio, Prima Marketing), canvas pieces, metal embellishments (Prima Marketing - my Mechanicals), lace - and of course my favorite Sizzix cut-outs - all colored and inked!

Here are the Sizzix dies I used for this layout:
- 659117 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK - Springtime
 - 658506 - Sizzix Sizzlits Die - Vintage Doily
- 659436 - Sizzix Bigz Die-Garden Greens

I wish you all a great, creative week - I hope you will find time to play a bit and make something beautiful!

Layering obsession... - Thinlits and Sizzlits everywhere!

Hi, it's me again!
I hope you had a great creative week! I'm away now, attending the CHA Show in Anaheim, but I've got something which I prepared for you in advance! My layering obsession continues, as you can see - it is just pleasure for me to build these projects adding more and more semi-transparent elements!

Personally I'm a huge fan of doily patterns - but can't you see how beautifully they work with inks, metals and washi tape? Poetry! Just a touch of nks and they are matching perfectly my chosen color palette... they even look cool if you won't press all of the details out of them!
Love this look! :)

Colors and layers - pure fun!

Hi,I hope you had a great week :)
I had - not often you have a chance to visit Sizzix headquarters  meet your friends from the blog and have a peek into the heart of the company, right? How lucky I am! I love my job and this opportunity to travel and experience so much.
Talking about experience - today I have something I made inspired by my recent visit to Avoca Woolen Mills in County Wicklow, Ireland. This place is full of breathtaking colors, patterns, textures... just have a look!

You can read more about this place and my project idea in one of the posts on my blog - here. You will see there I got inspired by yarn, blanket pattern and color scheme - and echos of this fascination you can see on my layout below:

The color palette is based on 4 colors of Distress Inks: Broken China, Brushed Corduroy, Shabby Shutters and Picked Raspberry and the composition is a multi-layered, artsy project based on using white cardstcock, Prima Elementals Canvas Resist Sheet and lace leftovers from my table! The easiest ideas are usually the best!

You can see a lot of Sizzix cut-outs here too - it's a selection of my favorite Thinlits, Sizzlits and Bigz Dies:
- 658720 - Sizzix Bigz Die - Ornate Frame
- 658502 - Sizzix Sizzlits Die - Flower, Daisy
- 659117 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK - Springtime

All these elements together create eye-catching, fresh looking composition  - great both on layout and greeting card.   You simply can't go wrong! Finishing the layout with stamping and a bit of pencil doodling was fast and enjoyable. And...can you see this hot pink yarn? Mindblowing!

I wish you all a great creative week - see you soon!

Splashes, strips and rippings :)

Hi,It's me and my new project for you!
Last weeks were very busy for me - a lot of travelling and teaching, meeting people, gathering and sharing inspiration. Oh, how i love classes:)
During one of the weekends - at Stockholm ScrapClass event in Sweden - I've created the project showed below - based on mixed-media techniques and using lots, lots of Sizzix cut outs:

As you can see Sizzlits Decorative Strips  were used not only for cutting out pieces for decoration but also masking the background. I love the effects you can achieve this way - perfect matching elements both on the paper and between the layers under the photo!

I couldn't help myself and found some space to add some doily cut-outs too - I simply love ripping them into pieces and adding to my project as extra texture!

Here you can find the links to the Sizzix Dies I used for this layout:
- Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die - Harlequin Border (657825)
- Sizzix Thinlits Die - Doily (659068)

All the other products are from Prima Marketing - mostly my Resist Canvas collection - Elementals, Vintage Vanity background stamps and papers from A4 Journaling Paper Pad.

Sending you best wishes - see you soon!

Journal obsession continues - Thinlits in mixed-media way!

Hi, it's me again!
Not so long ago I was posting some pages done in my "Odyssey" journal - altered book which I fill with new pages from time to time. All of them are dedicated to my family - parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. All of the pages are media based but when I add elements I simply can't resist and I HAVE TO add something special, dimensional and intricate....and that's why I love Sizzix Thinlits so much!
The page below is no differetn - there are beautiful elements cut out from white cardstock with a set of Echo Park Paper Sizzix dies. The photo shows my uncle, Bogdan during one of the important family gatherings. I think he could be around 20 in this time...

Here you can see some more of the details - I used Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK - For the Record 2, Documented (659109) and a lot of paper scraps, canvas scraps and metal embellishments from Prima (Vintage Vanity A4 journaling pad, Vintage Vanity Stamps, Elementals - Canvas resist Sheets, Sunrise-Sunset Stencil, Mechanicals).

I love how the cut outs correspond with the shapes of the metal trinkets and how they add the great depth to the project. It is so simple yet spectacular...
I hope you will have a great, creative week!
See you soon!

Sizzix Artful Recycling - perfect journal page technique :)

Hi, I'm happy to be here back with you! I've just finished a long, long tour in USA and Canada and I'm back in Irerland, getting ready for my next event - ProzArt 2013 - Scrapbooking Art Retreat in Poland. When I'll be back I'll be sharing photos with you of course - there will be a lot of serious Sizzix fun happening there! Woo hoo! I can't wait!

But for now - i have a really fun project to share with you! Do you like using leftovers from your die-cutting as a part of your mixed-media background? I simply love this idea and honestly saying, what can be more inspiring than a basket of bits and pieces left from previous projects?

I dug in my "leftover basket" and found loads of wonderful textures, shapes and patterns - jus perfect for my new art-journal page. All I needed was a bit of gesso and glue...

And here it is - a bit of stain and paint, a bit of soft pencil, a photo, a quote and eye-catching page is ready!!!

And now, which dies were used for this project? (It will be easier to spot ones which weren't used, I guess!) Here is a brief list for you:

- 658947 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 2PK - Doily & Doily Border
- 658339 - Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die - Medallions
- 659068 - Sizzix Thinlits Die - Doily
- 658611 - Sizzix Framelits Die Set 9PK - Tags #2
- 658957 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4 PK - Frame Layers and Flowers

I hope you will have a great creative week! How about some creative recycling?
See you soon!

Freestyle layout with Sizzix Thinlits and framelits

Hi, how are you doing these days? I'm travelling and teaching now - and attending the CHA show in Las Vegas, so if you are around... ;)
Today I'm sharing a layout - another simple mixed-media project based on the idea of layering element and splashing the paint and stain. I wanted it messy, grungy, but light... so here it is!

And some close-ups - I really love the idea of the "Instant frame" - it attracts the eye and focuses  it on the photo :)

To create a project similar to this you will need 2 different Sizzix dies:
- 658608 - Sizzix Framelits Die Set 4PK - Frames, Instant
- 658947 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 2PK - Doily & Doily Border

All the papers, stamps and metal embellishments are releases of my products with Prima Marketing -  Vintage Vanity A4 Journaling pad, Vintage Vanity Clear Stamps, Sunrise-Sunset Collection and Mechanicals.  Layout was finished using a bit of Ranger Archival Jet Black Ink, tea stain and spray paint. For stricking the elements and dimension I used products from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L: 3D Foam Squares and Crafty Power Tape.

I hope you are ready to create something messy now :) Any ideas coming to you? Get a longer look at your dies - and have a great creative day!

What to do with cut-out leftovers?

Hi, here I am again :)
What to do with cut-out leftovers? don't throw the away for sure!!! They are just perfect for layering, little elements on your cards or tags, extra texture on your bigger projects... or  as a mixed-media background base on your journal page!

I usually  have a lot of leftovers on my desk - and it is quite natural for me to find them proper place to "shine" - from time to time I simply glue them on the pages of my journal and cover them with gel or gesso - just like I did on the page below.

Pieces of paper, different designs mixed together get the new, unified look under the cot of gesso. They create simple, beautiful background to play on. All you need to add is some dimensional elements (why not some more leftovers? fabric? masking tape? chipboard? MORE CUT-OUTS???) and some color...

In the end - the finishing touches: hand journaling, stamping, some embellishments and a journal page is ready - how simple is that?

Here is the list of the dies which were used to create this page. Please note - These were random pieces I found on mu desk after finishing other projects!
- 657996 - Sizzix Sizzlits Die - Card, Scallop Circle Insert
- 658506 - Sizzix Sizzlits Die - Vintage Doily
- 658947 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 2PK - Doily & Doily Border
- 659110 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 5PK - For the Record 2, Tailored
- 659109 - Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK - For the Record 2, Documented

All the stamps, canvas sheet and metal embellishments are new, coming releases of my products with Prima Marketing - Mechanicals (metal), Vintage Vanity and Elementals.

See you soon - I wish you all great, sunny weekend!

Unexpected stop in Paris - journal page with Sizzix :)

Hi again friends!
There are some days that should simply not happen - one of these, during which you shouldn't get out of bed,  or at least - out of your house. I had 2 days like this in a row like this this week... and it was all because of the strikes on the Paris Airport - starting just on the day of my planned flight home! Grrr!

I'm not the master of planning, but I'm trying to get organized as much as possible with my crazy, busy life - this unexpected stop made me lose my balance completely... of course there were some advantages: spending more time with friends, having more time for sleeping... or this small project I made one evening in my altered book journal :)

Limited access to supplies makes you creative and opens your mind, I think:)
I made this journal page using just a bit of gesso, tea stain, some small tags and white paper scraps I got from my friends, masking tape, thread and twine and a crochet flower. Luckily I had a paper doily and one Sizzix cut out left from the class on Saturday:

- 657996 - Sizzix Sizzlits Die - Card, Scallop Circle Insert
So I could work some more on layers and details.

In the end, I had really great creative time playing and splashing tea in my journal. Great company, music, chocolate and free evening eased my stress and made my life a bit better.

Soon I will share some photos from my classes I had with my lovely students from France - see you soon!
Sending warmest hugs
Finn
