ICAD 1 - 2013 - starting off!

Wow, I can't believe that its June already.
Well, I've jumped in with two feet and
I'm going to participate in
 ICAD 2013
Woohoo!
Here's my first ICAD, below.
I got this from a quote on a fortune cookie.
I was going through last years ICADs for inspiration
and saw that fortune that
I had glued on my card.

I couldn't find any loose cards that I had last year.
I had used colored index cards and
they were so cool to work with.
I have to dig some more, I know I have more.
Anyhow, I grabbed my son's spiral bound pad.
I kind of like that its in notebook form.
Maybe they make it in a larger 4x6 format,
because I really prefer the larger cards.

Be sure to check out the other cards!
Tammy has it so well organized.
You can post on your blog and link up to her blog.
You can post on Flickr, Facebook, Instagram...
go check it out!

Join in the fun:)
See you tomorrow!

Take care and enjoy this wonderful Saturday.
We're having a gorgeous day here on the island.

Sunday Sketches 10/14/12

Mugs!  :)
I was so tempted to put images on these mugs/cups

 but I resisted.

I wanted to keep the focus on the shapes.

I think I may try another with the mugs in their actual colors and graphics.

 We'll see. No pressure:)

My son and I took our dog (Einstein), packed up the car and

visited with my sister's family and my parents today.

It was an interesting visit...

I was raised in a family with four kids

and it's funny I forget about the whole sibling situation and the issues involved.

My neice and nephew were in rare form and it sort of made me

nostaglic for the times my brothers, sister and I would argue and bicker.

But at the same time I was quietly thankful I don't have to referee that daily.

Of course, my son is an only child...

its the way things worked out and life is good.

It's sort of funny watching my son's expressions and

how he quietly observes their arguments.

And of course, in the car on the way home,

he wants to talk about me and my siblings.

What did we fight about? Did you get really mad?

It was a fun conversation, me driving along with

him in the back, with Einstein, laughing and laughing.

I love that kid :)

Have a wonderful week and be well!

Sunday Sketch 9/23/12

This weeks Sunday sketch is the last of my rose pickings in the neighborhood.

There are barely any roses about anymore...
 aside from me picking them!

The Montauk daisies aren't blooming yet, but
I can't wait till they pop out:)

I'm going to have to start looking out for some marigolds
or mums to paint in the mean time.

I journalled about a wonderful mediation group I went to this morning with a friend.
It was such a pleasure and felt like I got to clear my mind and shake out the cobwebs.
Plus it was just an amazingly beautiful day, the sky was the brightest blue!
Go check out the other Sunday sketches by visiting this link!

I got some artwork in this past week,
I was able to complete this mermaid illustration for a swap.
Thankfully I was able to scan that and have a good copy to keep. I have been having such trouble with my scanner:( I like how the way she holds her conch shell turned out to look like she is on a cellphone.

I remembered this time to take photos at different stages.  I liked how the flowers from the sketch book overlapped so I thought I would do the same with a patch of seaweed and bubbles.
Then I traced the image onto the watercolor paper by covering the
back of the sketch with graphite and then tracing over the front.
I know... I'm so hi tech ;)

I am happy with the quote and was lucky to find a good one.
There aren't that many out there related to mermaids...

Have a terrific week!
Take care:)

End of August

Oh my, where has this summer gone! Tomorrow is the last day of August. I'm off to the ocean tomorrow and plan to do some painting while I'm at the beach. We'll see how that turns out, LOL. I've been very busy the past few weeks but getting some artwork in here and there.  I painted a few things while on my vacation this week.

this is an abstract that I am still working on , putting the finishing touches.

I got this great insect book out of the library and having some fun making up my
own journal pages based on the information and the illustrations.

Random nonsense in blue
I have been procrastinating on posting...its been about 3 weeks :(. The last few times I've posted it's taken me a long time to upload my photos etc. I guess I need to post more often so that there are less images to post, huh? I'll get back on track soon, I promise and there be alot less time between posts.

We celebrated an anniversary and my husband sent me an amazing and gorgeous bouquet. One of the best ever! Two days after I got it I had left for a few days to my parents and I was afraid the bouquet would completely wilt while I was away but its still going strong!

I painted this one today, a week later:

OK I was going to post more but this blogger is really annoying me now!
I hope to catch up on everyone's blogs this weekend and looking forward to browsing and catching up on everyone's posts.
Take care and happy end-of- summer!
Have a safe holiday weekend,

ICAD Three (#s 20,21,22)

Playing catch-up this weekend.
Spread out on the back porch today at my mom's house and painted.
Then finished inking up the cards I started but didn't get round to doing earlier in the week:
Cute little gift we all got with our mother's day presents. Adorable and cheery!

I sort of  THINK this works... CT looked at this and said 'huh?'  LOL

It was a lazy Saturday today.
I am almost embarassed to say I slept till 11am.
I guess I needed the rest, huh?
Camp starts next Monday, already, so we'll have to round up all equipment needed tomorrow and replace what needs to be replaced.
My brother flies in next Wed and stays on our fair island for a week. Lucky fella ;)
We're going to tuck a trip to NYC in there somewhere for sure.
Spring Street here we come!

Enjoy your day!

ICAD 7

I'm continuing with this
green/red/black theme.
I don't know if it will go beyond this week.
This is a list of what I find profounding inspiring ,
but only for today.

The interesting fact is that I could
have had a completely
different list yesterday or
even tomorrow.
But I think I will get back to sketching
 for day 8.

This one flora drawing is a lot like ICAD 2, I used the same
green micron but the ICAD 2 was photographed
and this one below was scanned.
Big color difference!
Here's a card I made for a bloggy pal.
These flora sketches are so much fun to do.
I'll have to keep doing them until I get them out of my system.
Tomorrow is Friday! Yeah, yeah, yeah;)

Take care of yourself-
somebody, somewhere, needs you.

AEDM Days 20 + 21

Sunday

Monday

Since I was out at doctor appointments on Friday I tried to catch up with work on Sunday (Day 20) so I am a bit behind. On Sunday, I tried to work a bit on another of my abstract paintings and then this morning I carved a few more new stamps . At first I thought they were too simple, particularly the square ones, but there is so much that can be done with them. I'm going to use them tomorrow in my handmade journal. Here are some photos from the past few days from Long Island:

This is a picture of our back yard from last Friday, there is a big deck off the back of the house and up top is a dog run. The development is very hilly! More leaves are on the deck this morning.... All the rest came down yesterday.

This is a photo of a house at the corner of Hill and Glen Cove. The trees here were so beautiful and vibrant! There all gone now, this morning. I drove past and everything is on the ground and raked up.

Close up of a yellow one:)

Last but not least, by any means, is Delilah, the latest addition to the family. My sister's family adopted this cutie pie last week and we paid a visit to her and the rest of the brood on Saturday. Isn't she cute? She's a jumpy one for sure!

Getting ready for a holiday boutique

Tomorrow I'm participating in a private home party, a small holiday boutique. I don't expect to have a lot of sales but it's getting me started again with selling my work. I haven't sold anything in quite a while and it will also allow me to get ready for my Etsy...I have been putting that off long enough! Here are some linocuts I did and I'm using them to make cards and making small prints for gift tags:) The black version is the best because that's printed on good quality paper . The reds and greens are printed on cards made of watercolor paper. I am working away:)
