Long-term Hiatus

Unfortunately, I have undergone some extremely 'routine' dental procedures with extremely unique/unusual results. This has led to extensive interruption to my quality of life; and the list of doctors I have seen for help is pretty extensive.

We are now pursuing appointments as Cleveland Clinic & Mayo Clinic; I will be unable to create, exercise, or just do any of my normal activities until we find some resolution to the never-ending, extensive pain.

Hope to be back in the future...literally no idea when that might be! Until then - praying for healing and direction.

Hugs,

Continued Birthday Celebration :D

I think I've mentioned once, or ten times, how much I enjoy my birthday...every single year! And this was a big one!

About a week after my birthday, a small group of us gathered to experience an 'escape room' and have dinner together - so much fun! I wanted to celebrate each of them with a small gift; they each went above and beyond to make my birthday so special! I set about making tags, because I LOVE tags and the new Queen and Co. Pretty Presents kit was perfect!

I left the tags completely blank so they could hopefully use them again! I started off by cutting 12 white (front and back) and 6 designer paper tags using the distressed tag by Memory Box (my all-time fave tag). I then stamped each of the pieces of designer paper with the matching distressed stamp in oxide ink, spraying the ink before applying to the designer paper - such a cool effect!

I then set about die cutting the presents and some extra strips of designer paper for the back of the tags (not shown). Assembly line style made these quick and easy! I adhered the foam portion of the present to each tag, added sprinkles, topped with the acetate - included in the kit - and the final piece of designer paper on top.

WE ESCAPED
I used one of the sentiments from the stamp set for the back of the tags, also stamped with oxide ink - these inks stamp SO WELL!

Thanks for stopping by; have a great weekend! See you again soon!

Hugs!

Pretty in Pink

So many people continue to show incredible kindness to our family as we continue to take baby steps to recover from the catastrophic event that truly consumes our lives. (Forever Destroyed) Times you never dreamed you would find yourself facing.

Among those is one very special, sweet friend...and co-worker. I wanted to make several cards to give to her as I return her containers which contained meals for us. #soblesssed

I created several backgrounds on water color paper using oxide inks; this one is Worn Lipstick; after sponging on a random layer, I used Tim Holtz Mixed Media dies and cut the diamond pattern from grunge board and used as a die to sponge on a heavier layer of Worn Lipstick. Once dry, I spritzed with glimmer mist and added some Hero Arts unicorn spray using just the nozzle.

The flower was one I colored at the very beginning of Kathy Racoosin's 30 day coloring challenge, amazing the colors were a perfect match. The sentiment and die strip are from MFT's Doodle Bloom card kit; the pink card stock was a little lighter than I wanted, so I colored it with a pink Copic to darken it just a bit. The leaves were cut from SSS Floral Shapes from some fun gray polka dot paper.

Thanks for stopping by; although life still feels so out of control; I'm hoping to get back to 'some' creating if for no other reason than therapeutic purposes - I'm sure you can relate. Have a great week!

Hugs,

HOPE - that's all we have...

I am completely off social media, this is a rare exception. This link will explain why - I am not seeking your financial donation, just giving you a glimpse into our living nightmare.

Replacing our son's social security card

I'm confident the world stopped - even just briefly - when this occurred. There are no words to explain what we are going through, our children, Jim and I are just trying to cope day-by-day, literally putting one foot in front of the other even when we cannot see the path ahead.

We received a couple gifts in which I needed 'special' thank you cards to send. When I saw the colors at Color Throwdown #433, I knew I wanted to use the new Tim Holtz Oxide distress inks - just two colors for the background (Peeled Paint and Faded Jeans) after embossing the flowers in Hero Arts white embossing powder. Once both backgrounds were done, I used Tombow Markers and Prismacolor Pencils to add shading.

I also knew this sentiment was PERFECT for our walk right now. After the cards were finished, I added the sentiment from Stampabilities using my Misti and more Hero Arts white embossing powder.

Up first are the images using Tombow Markers for accents.

Below are the cards accented with Prismacolor pencils.

Thanks for stopping by; hope to see you again...maybe in April? We'll just have to see where in life we are because existing is all we can claim at this point. Thank you for sending special thoughts our way (prayers if you are a praying person), we can use them...ALL. Take care.

Dad's Day Sketch

Hi friends! Welcome back to another fabulous sketch over at Splitcoaststampers - it goes live tomorrow morning OR you can grab a sneak peek down below; I used it to create hubby's father's day card from all of us.

I started the entire card with the water color oval and laid down a Heidi Swapp stencil which says 'love'; I then misted Mermaid Lagoon Distress Spray Stain over the stencil, once completely dry I stamped the sentiment from Verve Visual's Father Figure in MFT's Steel Grey ink. The rest was just scraps and designer paper from both MFT and MME, finished it off with some distressing, pumice stone ink, dry embossing and a wooden heart which I colored with a grey copic.

Thanks for stopping by; hope you'll join the fun sketch fun at Splitcoaststampers this week. Have a great week!

One Little Word - 2015

If you saw my post yesterday, you will know I was contemplating participating in Ali EdwardsOne Little Word - I've never done it before but decided this year it felt RIGHT!

So here you go; here's my word:

FLOURISH - it truly encompasses all my goals for 2015 which by the way, I have NEVER written my goals down, but I did this year!
From Millan.Net

I was contemplating 4 different words for 2015; when I looked each word up in the dictionary, this one fit PERFECTLY:

  • to grow well
  • to be healthy
  • to be successful
  • to do very well
  • to hold up and show (something) in an excited or proud way
So there you go, my One Little Word for 2015. Thanks for stopping by; here's hoping your 2015 is filled with lots and lots of joy!

Hugs,

Top 15 Things Your Middle School Kid Wishes You Knew

This is completely non-crafty related! :D

Last night at parent/teacher conferences, the Communications teacher shared this article with us. The students (8th grade) were asked to read it, then star which items they wanted us to know about them, which items were most important.

I found the entire article A-M-A-Z-I-N-G...hope you'll take a few minutes to read!

by Rachel Vail, author of Unfriended

1. Respect me. I'm my own person, not just your kid. Sometimes I might have opinions that differ from yours. Sometimes I just want to be your baby. Respect me either way.

2. I still want to have fun with you, and feel like home is safe and happy. Smile at me.

3. I need to make some of my own choices, and maybe some of my own mistakes. Don't do my work for me or get me out of every jam. You don't need to be better than me at everything. Don't condescend; you don't need to impart your elderly wisdom on me if I have a problem. Please wait for me to ask for your help. If I don't ask for it, I might want to work it out for myself. Let me rant without offering advice. Sometimes that's all I really need, just to talk my way through something and for you to just listen to me.

4. Sometimes I'm going to be moody and annoyed and frustrated. You need to just let that happen (though you shouldn't let me be rude to you; that's weird and embarrassing). It might just be a mood or something might be going on that I'm not ready to talk about yet. If you hang around doing stuff near me and don't interrupt or try to solve it as soon as I start, I might feel comfortable talking with you about things.

5. Trust that I'll do my work. If I don't, you can help me manage my time, but wait until I'm not taking care of responsibilities to think I can't. Don't just assume I can't handle responsibility because of my age. Believe in me.

6. It feels really good when you ask me to teach you about what I'm learning or what I'm good at. You don't have to be awesome at computer programming to let me teach you some cool stuff, for instance. I have to be a beginner constantly. Show me it's OK to stay relaxed and present when you are struggling to learn something.

7. I don't like the drama either, and it surprises me as much as it does you. You think it's rough having this alien lunatic in your house? Try having it in your body, and you can't even get away.

8. If you don't like my friends, it feels like you don't trust my judgment or like I am stupid about choosing friends. Or both. Ask me what I like about them, or what we have fun doing together, or just to tell you about a new friend. Stay open-minded. Still, if you think my friends are being bad to me, I need you on my side that much more.

9. Sometimes I am completely overwhelmed and need to zone out for a while. I am not becoming a slug and will not stay in my room staring at a screen for the rest of my life. Maybe just for the rest of the afternoon.

10. I will fight you every step of the way if you make me do stuff I don't want to do (get some exercise, do my homework, write a thank-you note, practice piano, apologize to my sister, take a shower, wear deodorant... so many things), but you should probably make me do them anyway. I know I will feel better if I sweat and shower each day, and develop my study skills, and show up tomorrow prepared, and, and, and. I know! But please don't overwhelm me. I might not be able to do what I should right away. I might need reminders, later, which will annoy me completely. Remind me anyway.

11. Explain why I'm being criticized or punished. It feels scary if I don't understand anything beyond that you are mad at me. And sometimes what I need more than a scolding is a hug or a cuddle. Especially when I am more porcupine than puppy.

12. I need to have private jokes with my friends and not explain them to you. It's how we bond. You don't need to be involved in every aspect of my life to still be loved and needed by me.

13. If my social life gets to be too much, I may need you to force a little vacation from it on me. But most of time what I need is to work through how to navigate life online and with peers. Now is my chance to learn how to deal, with your help. Just shutting it down keeps me from learning how to build my life online with scaffolding provided by you. Stay calm and cool, let me explain what's going on, and talk things through with me. Ask more, tell less.

14. Especially if I've been feeling stressed, maybe you could just hang out with me. Go to the park or get an ice cream or have a catch, whatever; it feels good to just do something together without discussing or solving or teaching anything.

15. I like it when you think I'm funny. Or interesting. Or awesome. I actually do care what you think about me. Please find something specific you actually like about me because sometimes I can't find anything in myself to like at all. I might roll my eyes, but your words and judgments do matter to me, and I will remember them, the good and the bad. I will keep them with me like treasures even when I lose my keys and wallet and ID. Which I probably will. More than once. Sorry.

And bonus extra important thing you should know: The fact that my opinions on this and anything else might change tomorrow does not mean I don't feel them fiercely today. Keep up. I love you. Remind me you still love me, too.

Crafts 4 Eternity - To Die For

Hi friends! Hope you are having a great week and looking forward to the weekend. Last weekend was Mother's Day and I was spoiled, spoiled, spoiled! What a great weekend - had to come home to get some rest!
From Millan.Net
I love our challenge this week at Crafts 4 Eternity - dies! I think I use dies on almost every single card I create! And this week we are sponsored by Sassy Studio Designs; one person can win 4 free images just for playing along.

I created a set of "hello" cards (4 in all) quite some time ago - no stamping whatsoever! LOVE! I diecut the word "hello" from MFT Stamps 6 times per card. I covered the top layer with a clear wink of stella pen, some glossy accents, then adhered the handmade accent in a bit of a curve onto these super fun papers from Doodlebug.

Hope you'll take a few moments to join the fun this week; super simple challenge. Can't wait to see your creations!!

And last, but not least, I'll leave you with a few pictures and snippets from Mother's Day weekend! Thanks for stopping by; take care!

Out of the Norm

NO...not me silly!! :D

I don't normally post too much personal stuff on here but now that I've started well trying to start project life, you may see a few more things here and there but I promise to stay focused mainly on crafts...cuz THAT'S what keeps this momma sane!!

Our oldest daughter has a lead part in the high school play this weekend, "Dearly Departed", last play for her as she graduates in May. Anywho, the parents will provide treats for 'intermission' at both performances. I have a co-worker that bakes ALL. THE. TIME. - seriously, so she shared two of her favorite recipes and I wanted to share them with you! I have personally taste tested the Monster Cookies and they are HEAVENLY!!

So here you go; hope you will try them!! If you do, let me know what you think:

Monster Cookies

3 eggs
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
3/4 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. light corn syrup
2 tsp. baking soda
1 stick margarine/butter, softened
1 1/2 cup peanut butter
4 1/2 cup oatmeal
2/3 cup chocolate chips
2/3 cup M&M's

Mix in order, drop by teaspoonful onto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Toffee Grahams

24 square graham crackers
2 sticks butter/margarine (softened)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Preheat oven to 325 to 350 degrees. Arrange cracker squares on a lightly greased cookie sheet with edges around it. In a saucepan, bring the butter and sugar to a boil and boil for 2 minutes. Pour over crackers, covering them well. Sprinkle with nuts and bake for about 10 minutes. Cool slightly and cut into 24 squares or 48 "fingers".

ENJOY!

Sketch Layout - Crafts 4 Eternity

Hi friends!!

This week at Crafts 4 Eternity we have a sketch challenge; it's an easy, yet fun one - hope you join us! Play along showing us YOUR take on the sketch challenge and you could win 3 digital images from Crafts 4 Eternity!

I have just started Project Life (pocket scrap booking); anyone else on the bandwagon? Yeah, to say I've just started is a pretty gross understatement - I have one layout done... :-/ But that's okay, I'm working on it and maybe before my kids are all grown and gone, I'll have some memories for them. HA!!

You know, I originally started with scrap booking but somewhere along the line I found instant gratification in greetings cards. That was the end of scrap booking...and documenting their lives. Yikes! Hoping Project Life is the perfect kick in the patootie I need.

So...in an effort to still get my stamping and creative fix, I altered a PL 4x6 card with this hilarious picture of our girls. We were shopping late one night and they decided to have a little fun - even the cashier got in on the fun, she said "don't hurt her, there are cameras watching you." LOL!

Can you see the sketch within? It's there, I promise! :D

Some super fun MME papers, lots of washi tape, some enamel dots and a word rub on. The word "silly" was originally white but didn't show up too well, so I colored it pink with Copics, added glossy accents and sprinkled on some glitter. Pretty simple and straightforward.

Thanks for stopping by; hope you'll join us over at Crafts 4 Eternity, we love seeing your creations! Have a great weekend.
