Hello Spring 2021

What is growing in my garden?

Purple sage

It is planted next to my  snow pea vines.

Tonda di Pargi carrots

My fall and winter garden did an amazing job of producing beautiful greens, violas, carrots, herbs and nasturtiums.
The snow peas are starting to produce and I hope the will continue.
First bouquet from my garden.
The Sweet Williams are starting to finally bloom.  It took almost 2 seasons for them to bloom.  I started them from seed.

A new variety of pansies called Rococo mix from Floret Seeds
I love to press flowers from my garden.  I need to get busy and do something with them.

These are being pressed.  The violas have self sown themselves in my garden.  Maybe next year, instead of pressing them, try to use them in my baking.

Thank you for visiting and hope to have more photos to share of the garden.
Have a beautiful spring season.

Pressed Flowers and Violas/Pansies

I up-cycled a junk mail envelope with glassine windows.  I covered the envelope using miscellaneous scrapbook paper, book pages and washi tape.  I glued the flowers onto a book page and slipped into the envelope, after the glue dried). The glassine protects the flowers.  I did some garden journaling on the back.  The middle pressed flower is a larkspur.

A lovely memento of my garden.

The violas and pansies filled the garden with beautiful pockets of colors.  I have enjoyed picking them for micro-mini bouquets and for pressing.  I use heavy books and sandwich the flowers in between newsprint paper.  In about 3 to 4 weeks, they should be pressed.  Do not press wet flowers (they will mold).  Pick them when the morning dew is gone.  Late after noon is a good time for me to do my picking.

In this wine barrel container, I have a mix of violas, pansies and in the center there is a Sweet William. All from seed.

Pansies and Violas

The Pansies and Violas are putting on a colorful show.  The seeds came from Botanical Interests.

Sorbet XP Select Blend    I have linked Harris Seeds for this variety. Botanical Interests does not carry them in their 2020 catalog.

I never thought of making them into a bouquet before.  They add a happy feel into my home.

I just love the colors.   I sowed the seeds in late August, using Jiffy peat pellets. I have had good success using the pellets.

I transferred them into containers, raised beds and directly into the ground.  The ones directly in the grown are having a difficult time.

The stems were too short for the vase, so I will be pressing these.

Thank You for visiting my blog.  Have a wonderful day.

First Day Of Spring

Sharing some photos of my garden.
I have some pretty pops of color in my little garden and it has helped brighten up my soul right now.
I hope you are all doing okay.
My prayers go out to everyone.

One of the borage plants from this summer has continued to bloom even through the winter. We have mild winters her in my zone 10.  I have trimmed the old blooms to make way for some new growth.     Today, rain with some pops of sun.  Can you see the Ladybug.

The borage is growing right next to my pink iceberg rose bush. The bees are very happy too.
Pincushion flower and in the background is a Sweet William.

I have a few Larkspurs that have started to bloom this week.  Next year, I need to sow more.

What a beautiful purple color.

A lovely pink too.

Sometimes one sprig can make a lovely arrangement.

Most of my fall/winter have bolted.  I have just left them alone.  As long as they are healthy, I will let them flower for the bees.  The ladybugs are benefitting from it also.  I see them tucked the lettuce, parsley and spinach.  There are quit a few clusters of their eggs.

A beautiful green bouquet of spinach and Swiss chard.

Now for some Pansies and Violets

I have pressed a few.  I will let you know how they turn out.

Thank you for visiting and I hope to post more photos soon.  Take care and God Bless.
