My Garden in August 2021

The tomatoes are out of control but I am not complaining.  A new type of tomato for my this year, "Cherry Baby Hybrid",(Burpee)

Next to this amazing cluster is a "Baby Snack Yummy Bell pepper, Renee's Garden seeds.
Yep, they will ripen all at once, but I am ready.  I have plans in my kitchen for them.
Companion growing next to the tomato plants are three types of basil.  Genovese basil (Botanical Interests), purple opal (Renee's Garden) and Cardinal (Botanical Interests).

All three are beautiful and I have made a lot of pesto and have some in my freezer for later use.

Late summer sowing.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
Have a wonderful day.

Hello Fall and Saying Bye To My Summer Garden 2020

In my small garden, a few hiccups but I was pretty happy with what I was able to grow. A few things did not do so well while first timers did great, like my corn, new variety of zinnias and below, Brandywine Pink heirloom tomatoes.
The seed packet I purchased had a photo of RomaVF/container variety, from Ferry-Mores.
When the plants started to fruit, they were round and were growing huge!  I was just about to take the plants out. The huge green tomatoes were not turning color until one morning, I saw some a few of the tomatoes has some color.  I looked on Ferry-Morse website and saw that they looked like their Brandywine Pink.  Not disappointed but I'm glad I did not take them out.  The Brandywine tomatoes take 90 - 120 days for maturity.  Phew!

The plants needed to be stake.  The tomatoes were very heavy, beautiful and tasty.

I did roast some and put them into freezer containers for winter cooking.

I will mark the seed packet for next time.

Tonda di Parigi carrots and French Breakfast radishes
Seeds from Botanical Interests

Half of my bed I have more Tonda di Parigi carrots, Fireball blend zinnia (I do not see them on their website at this time), and Calliope blend carrots. Botanical Interests seeds.

Opie loves eating carrots.

I can't believe that tomorrow will be the first day of fall.  This summer flew by so fast, but I can't wait for next summer.  I have my list of what I want to plant next year.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  Have a wonderful and blessed day.

My Little Garden in August and Corn

I can not believe we are in August.

I am very pleased with my mini crop of "Bi-Licious" sweet corn.
Burpee seeds

I did get a few cobs that had some undeveloped kernels.  Need to help out with the pollination on the next bunch.

A batch of corn fritters.

A nice bunch of basil that was used to make pesto.  A favorite thing to make in summer and it freezes well too.

Heirloom Stupice tomatoes (Renee's Garden seeds), are starting to ripen.  A favorite of ours to grow and they are great to roast in the oven and freeze for later or add the roasted tomatoes to pasta for a quick meal.

Now, these were supposed to be RomaVF tomatoes according to the seed packet.  They do not look like Roma tomatoes to me and they were a  container variety too, LOL!   I'm not complaining but I cant wait for them to ripen.

 Dancing Girls zinnias
Burpee seeds

I love the compact growth and so many blooms.  This is one plant too.

I hope to start sowing for fall in a few weeks.

Starting Over

It is time to start blogging again.  I deleted all my prior posts so I can make room for new photos. So, lets begin.

The 2017 summer garden was so so this time.  The beautiful orange tomato was the big winner.  It was our first time growing "Kellogg Breakfast".  It had the sweetest taste.   The bad thing was, the plant only produces 8 to 12 tomatoes, due to their enormous size.  If we do grow them again, more plants next time.
We also grew purple tomatillos.  I love their beautiful color.  It was great using them in my cooking.
The Pincushion flowers did well.

We also had our butterfly
sanctuary too.  It was amazing!
My little "elves blend" sunflowers.  They really did well.  I have a few more that I just added to the garden.  I hope they will do well.  I think we have some warm weeks ahead.
