Sweet Evil Read Along: Week 4

Topic: Halloween!
I absolutely love Halloween. It's a time to watch scary movies even though I don't do that anymore. It's a time that you can eat all the candy you want. And it's a time that you can get creative while decorating and carving pumpkins. But my favorite thing about Halloween is kids' costumes.

Mini Review!
These are the chapters where all the crap goes down! We finally get to see what it truly means to be one of the Neph and how scary that can be for all of them.

Once you have finished reading Sweet Evil, make sure you stop by Wendy Higgins blog and read the extra scenes she has written in the POV of Kaidan. One is the Halloween scene in Chapter 26. The other scene she wrote is when Kaidan first saw Anna in Chapter 1.

"What's up man?" Jay reached out and they slapped palms, then grasped hands for a second.
"I've got a joke for you," Kaidan told him. Jay nodded his head, ready. "What's the difference between a drummer and a savings bond?"
"I don't know. What?" Jay beamed bright yellow.
"A savings bond matures and eventually makes money."

2.) This month is my 10 year wedding anniversary. True! Wow! Time flies.
3.) I have three kids. False! I have two kids.
4.) I got knocked up by the mail man. True! My hubby is a mail carrier.
5.) My son is named after someone from a reality TV show. True! People in Laguna Beach know how to name their kids.
6.) I love mornings. - False! Don't talk to me for at least 2 hours after I have gotten up for the day.
7.) I've had 9 piercings. True! 7 piercings in my ears, one tongue & one belly button. I don't recommend the tongue because I lost some of my taste buds, and I don't recommend the belly button if you want to have children.
8.) I have never seen the movie Lost Boys. True! I'm ashamed of this one.
9.) I have a phobia of feet. True! Feet freak me the eff out. If I'm near someone and they are not wearing shoes, I'm very much aware of where their feet are located. So gross!
10.) I've never been in trouble with the law. False! I lost my drivers license when I was 17 for too many traffic violations. AND a cop caught me punching my ex-boyfriend when I was 17 and I was charged with assault. I'm actually quite proud of that that!

Mini Review!

These chapters are probably the hardest for me to read. I want to hug and comfort Anna and I feel her pain. But at the same time I love these chapters because we learn more about the Neph and Anna's dad.

I was immediately apprehensive. Just as I was about to suggest something else, Kaidan spoke and my heart faltered.

"I'll go first," he said. "I dare Kope to kiss Anna."

Everything inside me flooded with fury and embarrassment. Kaidan leaned far back with his arms crossed, cocky. I stood up without thinking and hooked my foot under his chair, swiftly kicking upward and causing him to topple backward. He looked up at me from the ground with a stunned expression that morphed into a grin.

Sweet Evil Read Along: Week 2

Topic: Citrus or Pear recipe!


I'm drooling over this recipe I found!
See here: Pear-Hazelnut Cheesecakes w/ Pear-Raspberry Sauce


Recipe by memory:
Better than sex cake (that's the name)
Make a cake with yellow cake mix
Use a toothpick to poke holes in the top
Spread sweetened condensed milk over the top
Let it cool
Spread canned crushed pineapple (drained) over the top
Evenly place sliced bananas over the pineapple
(This is where you can add a citrus fruit or pear but I don't)
Cover with Cool Whip
Then DEVOUR!

Mini Review!
These chapters are what really set the tone of the book for me. This is when we get to learn more about Kaidan during the road trip and when we first meet Anna’s dad.


Fave Quote!

"How's your orange juice, Ann? Does it have a touch of lime?"

The glass paused at my lips as I processed his innuendo, and I took a second to make sure my embarrassment stayed hidden inside. I let the drink swish over my tongue a moment before swallowing and answering.

"Actually it's a little sour," I said, and he laughed.

"That's a shame." He picked up a green pear from his plate and bit into it, licking juice that dripped down his thumb. My cheeks warmed as I set down my glass.

"Okay, now you're just being crude," I said.

He grinned with lazy satisfaction.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm just enjoying my breakfast." He took another bite and I shook my head.

Sweet Evil Read Along: Week 1

Topic: Road Trip! My necessities while traveling!


Night Driving!
I've recently become a fan of road trips! My preference is that I drive, and I'd prefer that all of the traveling is during the night. This might seem weird to you, but I have two small boys and I'd prefer that they are sleeping. Really, you could call that a cop-out, because what I love most about traveling through the night is...

Audio Books!
If you are a reader, then you would have to agree that the best job ever would be to read books, right? I think a job that required a lot of driving would be pretty awesome too. I wouldn't mind sitting in a car for 8 hours a day, listening to an audio book.

Awesome Audio books
Harry Potter & The Hunger Games are amazing audio books, but I'd also recommend:

Caffeine! I'm not big caffeine drinker so when I consume a large amount of caffeine my heart feels like it will pump through my chest, or I'll have a heart attack. But I don't hold back on the caffeine when I'm pulling an all nighter in the car for a road trip. Even if I have an audio book to occupy my mind, I still require some heavy caffeine consumption.

Munchies!
I normally do not stock up on munchies before a road trip because I never know what I'll feel like munching on after sitting in a car for a few hours. So I do all my munchies while stopping for gas and/or pee stops.

Is this normal???
I feel like I've been on a lot of road trips in the last few years, so I feel like this has all come naturally to me. All the other stuff is over-planning in my opinion. Tee! Hee! Hee!! Are these things normal for everyone?

Mini Review!
Gah! Oh, my sweetness and hottiness! I'm once again reminded why I absolutely LOVE this book so much. First off, I forgot how much I really like Jay. He ended up being kind of an afterthought when I've reminisced about Sweet Evil. But this is when I started to grow a strong bond with Anna's mom and, most of all, this is where I started to fall for Kaidan.

These chapters have all my favorite scenes. The scene where Anna discovers Kaidan and she’s literally drooling over his hotnes. The scene where she lies for the very first time (in the bathroom with those girls) really cracked me up. And I was terrified for Anna in the scene at the party with that DB dude. And then the scene learning about the danger of Kaidan's dad when she meets him for the first time at Kaidan's house. And of course the scene at the beginning of Anna & Kaidan's road trip. I can hardly wait to continue!!!

Fave Quote!

"Thanks", I said, feeling terrible. I couldn't leave that ugly lie sitting there out there like that.

"Um, I didn't really hear that about Kaidan." They both looked up with confusion, and I swallowed, forcing myself to continue. "He doesn't have gonorrhea. I mean, not that I know of."

"Why would you make that up?" The friend was more sober, and she was looking at me with deserved contempt. The drunken girl looked confused. I contemplated playing it off like I'd been joking, but that would also be a lie, and who jokes about STDs anyway?

"I don't know," I whispered. "I just...I'm sorry." I backed up and slipped out of there as fast as I could. It was a good thing, too, because Lascivious's last song was ending and all the girls were wobbling toward the bathroom now. It was time for the bands to switch. I wrung my hands and bit my lower lip, looking for Jay as the crowd surged around me. I wanted to go home.
