Dodge has quietly issued a recall on every single Demon for a spark plug issue. (thanks Mike!)

Those who felt their Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 lost some of the 1,025 horsepower along the way get good news. It turns out they were right: their cars were indeed losing power.

customers have been reporting an issue referring to engine misfire and loss of power for a year and a half, ever since deliveries started, according to Butter Da Insider, the man who specializes in uncovering exclusive insider information on Stellantis, Ford, and GM.

He is in possession of a document (check the photo gallery) that Stellantis reportedly sent to dealerships. Those who will fix the Demons are also getting a tool kit for the procedure. According to the one who provided Butter Da Insider with the information about the recall, the box includes spark plugs, so it's more of a part supply instead of an actual tool kit.

Long story short: this '24 Demon was stolen brand-new right off the showroom floor, chopped to pieces, recovered by the police, and auctioned off for 20k to You Tuber - Lee Carter from ScrapLife Garage , a car rebuild expert. Thanks Mike!

Dodge has only built 3,300 such cars and this one was #0032, which makes it one of the first to see the light of day. Lee paid $20,000 to pick up all these pieces. When brand-new and all in one piece, this car is estimated at $196,000. That is how much the insurance company paid for it.

The car is missing the rear spoiler, the headlights, the front bumper, the hood, the seats

Despite the challenges, Carter is undaunted. Having rebuilt a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon after it was nearly destroyed in a fire, he knows the dedication and expertise required to bring these muscle cars back from the brink. For this build, Carter is even considering returning to the auction yard to source a chassis from another Challenger to complete the project, unlike his original Demon build, due to the chassis being completely cut through.

His recent discovery of the car’s odometer reading just 61 miles has boosted his spirits, confirming that the vehicle was barely driven before being stolen.

2007 Dodge Demon concept.... just what the Dodge company needs to make and sell, because the Charger and Challenger won't continue to sell much longer, neither will anything else Dodge makes

Dodge / Chrysler doesn't have anything new to offer, and hasn't for about 6 years since the Gladiator truck came along.

The Journey? Durango? Challenger, Charger, and Jeep. They are all really long in the tooth.

Sure, nicer ones are for sale now than a decade ago, but, people certainly jump to buy the newest, coolest thing around. See the Tesla truck. No reason to buy that except that you get attention.

So, Dodge Chrysler, in the past decade has tried the Dart, fail. Avenger, fail. 200, fail. 300, sorta succeeded, but they quit making them. Viper, too expensive, quit making them, no one bought them anymore.

But the Miata? How long has that been selling? 35 years. They got that right the 1st time, and improved on it slowly over the decades. The Mustang? Well, 60 years even though it's not much like the original, ditto, the Camaro, the Corvette... small cars, even two seaters, sell, and keep selling for decades.

And do you know WHY they created this Demon roadster in 2007? To compete with the Miata, and the Soltice and Saturn Sky.

the first 3 cars I owned, all rusty and mostly painted rattle can gray. 1992-94

 72 318 Barracuda I made a 340, 71 Challenger 340 and 727, 72 Demon 340 and 904.

I think I paid 400 for the Barracuda, 1200 for the Demon, and 3k for the Challenger. I loved those slotted mags. I got the back ones from a guy who bought them for his 68 Road Runner, and they won't fit on that 68 Road Runner unless you change something about the back and he wanted to keep his car stock except for the wheels.

1000 hp Demon rolled into the grocery store parking lot of Vons on Murphy Canyon while I was getting groceries yesterday

come car dealerships should just be avoided, as they are backstabbing greedy cheating bastards. A notorious Mississippi dealership really should get it's deal with Dodge revoked.

They sold a Demon 170 out from under a member of the military while they were deployed. Things got so bad that Dodge’s CEO had to step in.

AFTER a 50k markup for the Demon was paid for, on top of the MSRP, the dealership had to make fast decisions when jammed up promises to buyers wanting to blow fortunes for a Demon.

So they shorted the active duty deployed guy who had ordered, and paid, and handed the keys to a local who paid MORE of a markup.

A deal was struck, and the happy new owner went to Facebook to share their excitement for their new purchase. However, the servicemember who originally ordered the car was in the group where this boast was shared, and the two quickly figured out what had happened.

the dealership general manager denyied many of these allegations, claimed no such car was ever ordered in the servicemember's name, and accused him of lying about being in the military.

at some point, the news made its way to Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis, whom StellPower reports reached out to both parties for their versions of the story.

Still, this story has a happy ending, because Dodge has a dealership reward program, and 40 Demon 170s to reward its top selling dealers with, so it plucked one from the batch, will get it repainted and built to match the original spec the servicemember ordered.

His payment of the markup has been revoked, and cancelled. He got that back.

This will all be done at no charge, and the car will be sold at MSRP. No markup.

Be On The Lookout For a stolen Demon... Brown Dog Welding (Josh Welton) parked his car in a Detroit locked gate parking lot, and it was gone in under 10 minutes

The car’s plate is HLYSMOK. The color is one of 32 made in Maximum Steel. The VIN is 2C3-CDZH93JH-100040. Black interior, red seat belts, leather seats.

Stolen Monday afternoon in Detroit, in broad daylight, within a ten minute window, from a gated lot, it was snatched. They cut the gate’s chain and they either cloned the key or did some other Fast and Furious cyber wizardry and drove it away.

If you've got a facebook page or blog or twitter, please spread the word and keep an eye out, trying to find stolen cars is just a matter of checking on that rare example of similar car that MIGHT be the stolen car. Josh is a great guy, and the welder I've posted about often  https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search?q=Josh+Welton

To celebrate the end of the recent, and likely the last muscle-car era, Mopar is selling the 1,025 horsepower Demon 170, the world’s first 8 second factory-production, street-legal muscle car

It will not have a black key fob.

In 2015, Dodge shocked the world with the 707 horsepower Hellcat.
Then in 2018 they did it with the 840 horsepower Demon
now they are doing it again

Improved Supercharger: Modified 3.0-liter supercharger upgraded with a larger snout with 105mm throttle body, and 3.02-inch pulley increases boost pressure 40 percent over the Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody

Fueling Horsepower: Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 achieves full horsepower output through high ethanol fuel blends: horsepower levels are determined by sensing the percentage of ethanol fuel content

Driveline Upgrades: All-new driveline with 240mm ring gear, 53 percent stronger differential housing using aerospace-grade metals, rear prop shaft 30 percent stronger and stronger half shafts

Massive Drag Radials: 315/50R17 Mickey Thompson ET Street R drag radials — never offered before on a production car — and Mickey Thompson 245/55R18 ET Street front tires deliver extra force on the strip or street

Production will begin this summer and will be limited to at most 3,300 units, with 3,000 for the U.S. and 300 for Canada.

Current owners of the original 2018 Challenger SRT Demon who secure a dealer allocation for the new 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 will also be given the unique opportunity to match the same vehicle identification number as their original Demon when finalizing their order.

I just learned of George Shinn, and his car collection

2010 Iacocca Edition Mustang

Shinn worked in a textile mill, a car wash at his dad's Gulf service station, and as a school janitor.
His dad passed away when he was 8 of a heart attack, and George finished dead last in his high school graduating class

he recreated his dad's Gulf station

He later attended Evans Business College in Concord, North Carolina. Upon graduating, he raised enough money to buy Evans and other small colleges that offered 18-24 month programs, consolidating them all under the umbrella company Rutledge Education Systems. He sold the schools and bought the basketball team with the proceeds.

1972 340 Demon

Shinn is the former owner of the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, as well as the Charlotte Knights and Gastonia Rangers minor league baseball teams, along with the Raleigh–Durham Skyhawks, of the World League of American Football. He purchased the Hornets for $32.5 million in 1987. The name of the Hornets cheerleader/dancers? The Honey Bees. Was he accused of sexual assault? Yep. Settle out of court with a cash payment? Yep.

He is still hated in Charlotte, not only for moving the team to New Orleans, but also for trading player Alonzo Mourning in 1995. Shinn has not returned to Charlotte since the Hornets left for New Orleans in 2002.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Shinn

His 2nd marriage ended in 2016, when he was 75 and she was 47, in 2020 he remarried at age 80, and she is 50, and his Wikipedia ain't going to mention any of that.

"I used to buy my executives cars from a Lincoln-Mercury dealership and I always used the same salesman: Rick Hendrick," recalls Shinn. "We became good friends so when I became interested in buying a car dealership, I asked Rick if he wanted to partner with me."
