Now for some examples by the team, and first of all I would like to introduce you to our two new team members, who applied for the 2 month Guest Designer position via the page set up for applications, (see the tab at the top if you would like to apply).

2 month Guest Designer Marg said:
My name is Margaret (I prefer to be called Marg), and Im a 51 year old disabled single parent to 2 gorgeous daughters but only the 16 year old, Tia, now lives at home (my eldest, Steph, is very happily married with 2 lovely sons).
I have always been arty/crafty & used to sew so much, when I wasnt sewing I was drawing, then I went onto cross stitch but my eyes & dexterity started to go so I needed another outlet. That came in the form of card making through my eldest sister. She gave me some of her stock and that was it, I was hooked! A few months later I was told I had to finish work as my walking sticks were an issue for health & safety regulations. I later realised that I could have sued, but it was too late. I was then in need of therapy, something to do everyday, with my hands and mind, that would stop me getting depressed even more than I already was. I have not looked back since - card making is my life now and Ive done fairly well with commission orders & my family/friends who have received one or more of my cards.

2 Month Guest Designer Monica said:
Well, first of all I should start by saying that I am from one of the beautiful countries of Central America, Costa Rica. I am so proud to live in a country like this. The climate, the mountains, the people are all the perfect elements to enjoy this blessed land. I was born in October 18th 1968. I grew up In Alajuela, called the city of the Mangos. Now I live in Heredia. called the city of the flowers. I am atonery at law, I work in San José, our Capital City. I am mother of two kids, Sofia 20 years old and Joaquín 15 years old. I love paper crafting, this where I found relax to fight my every day stress.

Yogi used Graduation Cupcake from Limited Runs and added a cute ladybug, or ladybird as we call them in the UK.

Joyce made a mountain sidestep mountain valley card featuring the Dragon's nest digi from Limited Runs.

Lucy said: I doodled the green and black “stitching” and coloured parts of the owl in with green copics then glittered him for a sparkly, fluffy look. The green leaves are from my company, Flourish with a Bling.
(Note to entrants, this is too much of the accent colour, you need to use less if you want to win.)

My project for this challenge is made using the Mushrooms 7 image from Limited Runs Digital Stamps.
I wanted to make something different from a standard card so I thought about a box shaped card. I used a piece of string mesh stuck on to alternate folds. On the other alternate folds I used pearlescent paper die cut with a Memory Box die. On top of these "backing" pieces I added die cut leaves. The images of the mushrooms, were coloured using Promarkers.
The last thing I added was 4 identical pieces of black grosgrain ribbon so the card could be fastened into a rectangle "box". For more details see my blog.

Monica said: I called it "I Believe in Magic" accordingly to the Dragon´s Nest digi. I made a carousel card, mixing different black and white patterned papers. I used a little bit of green in their eyes to add some light to my black and white dragons. When the card opens it shows a beautiful and hopeful  message: "Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen". This should be our motto every day.
Hop on over to Monica's blog to see more pictures and details of this gorgeous card.

  Lyn
I've used this cute little Owl from one of our sponsors, Limited Runs Whootie Owl and on the inside I couldn't help but use an old favourite Madison with her axe! The papers are from Dovecraft's 'A Hint of Pink' by Kate Knight. Inside I've added a little envelope to hide some birthday money. The feather has been waiting ages for me to use and this just seemed to be the right time! I've also added 5 brads, 3 gems, 2 buttons, some black mess, eye-lash wool and a row of sequins! Link to free font is on my blog.

Sorry I'm late, busy weekend! Here is my card using Graduation Cupcake from Limited Runs. The image is coloured with Promarkers, and I added my accent colour to the tassel and hat, and edge of the die cut, 4 pearls and a real tassle to match. I used matt medium on the icing, I don't think it shows up here.

For my project today, I thought about something different than a card, so I worked this beautiful one handbag. To do it, I used an SVG cutting file , and I decorated it with this beautiful image of Owl-Theo, courtesy of our sponsor Limited Runs. I add a little detail in red, glitter in black and ready. Enjoy de challenge, and please remember, add just a tiny amount of your favorite colour.

Firstly I'd like to apologise for my over-use of pink here, I know the challenge rules said only a small amount of colour... I just got carried away! I used the Whootie Owl image from Limited Runs and I embellished her with doodles, before sticking onto my painty patterned background. I'm going to post a full tutorial on my blog later, so stay tuned!

Final reminder for Challenge 6 - all about boys with ric rac and buttons and a sentiment.

I am so late with my make I decided to post a new reminder post! This baby book is made with a cutting file from The Cutting Cafe, I cut it in red and blue, then cut the letters in polka dot patterned paper. I added white baby ric rac, buttons, and printed some images from the All About Babies file onto printable shrink plastic, coloured them with Promarkers and shrank them. The sentiment is from the same file, a few buttons and some Crafty Ribbons gingham ribbon, with some dummys from stash and it was done.

I decorated inside on the B page with an image from All About Babies.

I also added an image to the Y page. I will probably add a bit more, you need to be careful that anything you add doesn't show though the letters - unless you want it to!

Cutting file and image file available from The Cutting Cafe who are sponsoring this challenge with three generous prizes.

Squigglefly are offering the third prize winner 3 digital images of your choice.

So let's see what a lovely mess our GDT and DT have got into to bring you their lovely creations using images from Bugaboo and Squigglefly:

Guest Designer Laura

Laura used Paint a Pretty Picture from Squigglefly, and said:

This is a bit of a self portrait.  This little girl [I've renamed her Laura ;)] has painted this canvas and made a hell of a mess whilst she was at it.  She used acrylic paints, ink, gesso, mists, oil crayons, mulberry tissue and rub ons on the canvas.
I've coloured the Squigglefly 'digi-me' with watercolour pencils and added Crafty Ribbons ribbon to her dress and hair.  To make the self portrait accurate she is also covered in ink and paint from the canvas... she even has some in her hair  :)  I've also added a neon bracelet to her right arm.
I know I said Chocolate was the best theme ever but Make a Mess has to be right up there with it!  I got very messy which was absolutely awesome!!

Guest Designer Monica

Monica used A Little Birdie Told Me from Bugaboo, and said: My Quirky Mess is all about spring.

For the first project I used the wax paper technique with spring colors distress inks. I used a lever card cutting file from Svg Cuts.

For the second one, I worked with the emboss resist technique, with white Stampin Up embossing powder and an Stampin Up doily stamp. Then I used spring colors distress inks. The flower tower cutting file is from Creative Kuts.
Guest Designer Mary

Mary created a lovely messy canvas with Squigglefly Paint a Pretty Picture, it even has a messy sentiment!

Great challenge Caro! My first Quirky Mess is a card using Artistic Bear from Squigglefly. I tried to get clever by printing him in a position so that I could fold the card into a card blank, then I masked him and got out the acrylic paints which are the messiest medium I could imagine - at least when I use them! I painted the flower freehand, and then filled in with thick textured paint. The dripping paintbrush and puddles are done with 3d paint. and finally I removed the masking and coloured the bear with Promarkers, stamped Happy Mother's Day and added some Crafty Ribbon! I had to cut the front off the original card and mount it on some stronger card.

My next Quirky Mess was achieved by dropping three different colours of Distress inks onto my (appropriately named) Messy Mat, brayering them together and putting the card down on the ink. Then I stamped a background stamp of London by Hero Arts on top and cut my panel out. I used Guy New Job from Bugaboo, which is coloured with Promarkers and cut with Nestabilities, as is the sentiment. Again some Crafty Ribbon, which looks like tie material!

This art journal page was made from layers of handpainted papers and india ink. The gorgeous image is from Bugaboo, and I added a bit of colour using pencil crayons, I outlined the elephant in black so that it really pops off the background.
As you might notice, I got a little carried away making things for this challenge! I made eight cards using the African Giraffe digi stamp from Squigglefly! I'm going to share a tutorial for these cards on my blog tomorrow so make sure to swing by!

My first project is mounted upon canvas and has much Gesso and ModPodge, tissue paper, lace, flowers, leaves, different types of figures in metal, wood and cloth. Bugaboo Images, Stella and Gus - Marriage Curable, are painted with watercolor pencil, and then colored with Lindys Stamp Gang.
My second project is a wooden picture frame, covered with gesso paste. On top of this, it has several textures such as lace and metal embellishments adhered and sealed with ModPodge. Once it was dry I  spray painted in different colors and added the shoes, by Bugaboo, that I printed on various papers to which I added lace, flowers and ribbons. Finally everything was sealed with ModPodge glitter.

For this project I used acrylic paints as base and ModPodge as a sealant. I painted the Squigglefly digi stamp with watercolor pencil and then seal with ModPodge. For textures I used Gesso and paint with alcohol inks. I made a mixture with stickers and a palm print of my son's hand using paint, and this will serve as a gift for a golfer dad.
In my blog, you can find pictures of the different processes used in these projects.

This was fun, I still have pink fingers! Well, I cheated a bit and didn't get as messy as I could've done! I've used JJ-Painting  by Bugaboo, on two of my cards, which are almost the same, but not quite! My Quirky mess was very easy, as I don't do hard! First I drew stripes on paper with my Promarkers, using colours I'd used on the image, and then went wild with the only Cosmic Shimmer Mist I have (My swivel chair is now pink!) added brads, a brush button, eye lash wool and computer generated sentiments. The corner die cuts were left over from another card made years ago (I throw nothing away!) Links to freebie font and my home-made papers are on my blog.(Or will be later, as I'm not here!) Inside the card looks like this...

I used  the same idea on my second card, but this time, cut a strip off the front of the card and the sprayed it all over with the Cosmic Shimmer then added the Promarker stripes and glimmer with the digi already printed on it, covered that with another image (minus the fiddly bits) and then 3D-ed her dress. Another card coming up later!!
Inside

My first make is a wall hanging for my son Alex (age 5) and uses 'the cat in the hat' from Bugaboo. I made the background with yellow, red and blue splodges of paint onto a gelli plate, then brayered them and made patterns using a comb, bubble wrap and the end of a paint brush, before laying the paper on top. I finished it off with glimmer mist, then the promarker coloured cat image, some star brads, blue gems and mounted onto navy blue card.

My second make is the cover of an art journal for Alex and uses the painting boy from Squgglefly. This is also on a gelli plate background this time with stripes of paint and then masking with hearts, leaves and writing. I finished it off with HeroArts and PaperArtsy stamps, and then the painting boy image coloured with promarkers.

We now publish a midway reminder and you will see some more great examples next week, some using different images from our sponsors, so watch out for the reminder post!

Also if you haven't visited our Facebook page we now feature entries that comply with our challenge brief, you could have been featured already if you have entered the last few challenges, or you could be featured from this challenge.

Aren't these fun! Please add a link to your blog post (not your blog) or your online photo gallery, SCS etc. using the button below.
