Challenge # 20 2013 Quirky Pumpkin Time

Hello my dear Quirky friends, it´s my turn again (Doris), and I hope that everyone has a life full of health, love, happiness and creativity. And as you can see, I wanted to pick a theme orange colored:

” When you see me in the fields,
my oranges glowing in the sun.
It is time to say good bye to summer
and Hello to autumn fun!!”

All you have to do is let your imagination fly and participate in projects (any project) that has pumpkins. Pumpkins, happy, sad, funny, scared, friendly, angry … Pumpkins. I can´t wait to see the beautiful creations that you have to share with our Quirky family. And to encourage you to participate, I want share with you who are our sponsors in our Pumpkin Challenge.

So we have a beautiful color, a nice theme, and of course wonderful prizes
First Place: 7 Bugaboo digi images
Second Place: 3 digi Limited Runs images
Third Place: 2 Bugaboo digi images

And last but not least important, to see who won the last challenge click HERE or scroll down to the next post.
Now, let me show you  the beautiful projects that our guests designers and our team have been working on.

Guest Designer Gabriela

I want to thank Quirky Crafts for this opportunity. For me is a honor to design for you. I made a shadow box that represents the crops. I used fall colors and of course lots of pumpkins. Then I added two digis from our sponsor BUGABOO. (Gabriela, we want to thank you for being a great guest and making this wonderful example).

  Gemma

I made the background of this canvas using Adirondack paint dabbers and the Digis are from 'Limited Runs' and I absolutely love them. I coloured the Digis in with Promarkers and added some texture paste through a stencil on the background. I also stamped some cobwebs around the canvas and added a metal moon and moth embellishment.

Valou used a Bugaboo image called Cat Peeker on her amazing Halloween card. Who wouldn't love to get a card like this!

I love this arty looking crow and pumpkin from Bugaboo, so much I used it three times! I picked up the sentiment free from Bugaboo too, you might be lucky and still find it there free but it is due to be replaced so you might just have to buy it (or win the challenge and get it free). Ribbon is from Crafty Ribbon.
Back later with something spooky!

For this challenge I made a Step Pergola Card, with this lovely digi "Scarecrow Pumpkin String" from our sponsor Bugadoo. I love fall colors, that always looks good with pumkins; and of course a cute fall owl, just looking around from the top of the Pergola.

Here's my first make using the Pumpkin String and a Bugabo freebie sentiment pumpkin! They've all been layered and 3D-ed and I've added bats and cats and stars and spiders! The little pumpkin by the scarecrow's foot is one left over from all the '3D-ing' All coloured with ProMarkers.

For my first project, I chose a tridimensional Shadow Box, with background in autumnal colors. I used  and AKVFALL wheelbarrow, both images from our great sponsor Bugaboo , and both hand painted with watercolor pencil.

My second project is an LO, for which it I increased the size of Witch and Pumpkins, a beautiful image of our sponsor Limited Runs. It is handpainted, always using watercolor pencil and I used autumnal and halloween colors as background.

As I'm just about to start up with my studies again, I thought that for this challenge I'd decorate a binder. I used mixture of paper scraps, stickers and washi tape before making a feature of the quirky Pumpkin Bird from Bugaboo (coloured with Prismacolor pencils and Souffle pens). I'll post a full tutorial on my blog tomorrow, so make sure to come check it out!

Challenge #26 - Last minute Christmas!

***UpDate** (Sunday 30th) Hello Quirky Fans!! (Lyn here) I know some of you were expecting the winners here today of the last challenge and a new challenge but we've having a bit of a Holiday break. So this Challenge below has now closed. We'll be back next week with my first Challenge of 2013! (And the winners of this challenge) So Look out for it! In the Meantime...
 HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Welcome to another Quirky Crafts challenge.  If you want to find out who won the previous challenge then please scroll down to the previous post.  It is my (Caro's) turn to set the challenge and as I am still in a bit of a rush running around finishing off the last bits and pieces before Christmas (I can't believe it is only 9 days away) I chose LAST MINUTE CHRISTMAS as the challenge theme.

As it is the last challenge of the year we are sadly saying goodbye to Diane as this is her last challenge with us. We wish her all the best in her new ventures and look forward to welcoming Doris and Daire in the first challenge of the New Year.

We would also like to wish all of our followers, entrants, guest designers, and wonderful sponsors a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

For this weeks challenge we have three great sponsors:

who are giving our first prize winner the gorgeous Cherry collection of ribbons.

who are giving the second prize winner $10 of images of their choice,

who are giving the third prize winner 3 digi images of their choice.

We are sad to say this is the last time The Stamping Boutique will be sponsoring us, and we would like to thank them for sponsoring many of our challenges over the past two year.
The store is closing at the end of December, so the prize winner must contact us promptly to be able to collect the prize!

As usual you are welcome to link any Christmas related make that you want, it doesn't have to be a card (if you are super organised you may have already finished your cards!).

Here's some fabulous makes from our design team and guest designers using some fantastic images from Dustin Pike at Doodle Dragon Studios to inspire your creativity.

Guest Designer Chana

Chana used Doodle Dragon Studio's List Machine to make this cute little house with drawers for a secret gift. You can find a tutorial on how to make this right here.

Guest Designer Julia

Julia used the Reindeer Ride image to make this great pillow box with hidden message and two hot chocolate sachets for a sweet last minute gift which she says is perfect for a stocking stuffer or teacher gift.

Diane,
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!
For the my last challenge I decided to work with Doodle Dragon's List Machine image. This time of year for me is all about lists, I cant function without them. By now I have bought and wrapped everything so my attention turns to food shopping etc, and for that I have to have lists so a nice little notebook that goes everywhere with me is just the ticket.

Lyn (late again lol)

O.M.Goodness, yes, I'm late again! Unlike Caro who's so organised, I'm waaaay behind! so everything I'm doing at the moment is Last Minute Christmas, but I thought you'd like to see these, some Christmas Shortbread cookies, covered with icing and chocolate using some of Dustin's fabulous digi's as the tie-on tags, nice and easy to make, just print them out the size they come, very small, already coloured, die cut them and add to anything!!

I am missing Di already and she hasn't gone yet! So I decided to make a tri-shutter card in Di's honour and I used three images from the Doodle Dragon Wolfie set, they are so cute! Instead of patterned papers I used my new ribbons from Crafty Ribbons (and some from last year), I won the Bev's Bag, whoopee. I coloured all images with Promarkers. There are some pieces of embossed card too. Photo below shows the images all in focus, and the photo above shows the ribbons and ribbon words in focus.
I am definitely not ready for Christmas and being ill with a virus all week hasn't helped! I have presents to buy, presents to wrap, cards to make and send or address, and food shopping to do and I am running out of time fast! So this is one more card towards the family and friends cards.

For once I am organised with cards all made, written and sent, presents all bought and wrapped, the housework all done and the decorations are up so I actually have time for a little fun crafting.  I have been wanting to make a 'run up to Christmas' mini scrapbook for a  number of years now but have never got round to it.  This challenge was the perfect excuse to actually make a start so I made a page using the Doodle Dragons Wolfie Ice skating image and photos of Alex 'ice skating' (sliding on his shoes) in the park last weekend.  The papers, embellishments & sentiment are from Bo Bunny.

We look forward to seeing what you all make for your Last Minute Christmas creations.

Challenge #23 Winners - snow and layers

This was a very popular challenge (60 entries WOW) and very seasonal, and of course we have three great prizes to give away which loads of you want to win! So without further ado lets get on with the announcements!

Note about last challenge: The winner has not claimed her prize, and I will give her 2 more days and if I don't hear I will give it to someone else.

Each of us had to look at 60 great entries, which were all so good it is a shame we don't have 60 prizes, and then come up with a list of those that really stood out and met the challenge brief the best, personally I had a list of 16, and it was difficult to prune that down to my top 6. What I do is go back to all 16 on my list and look at them all carefully again, and then decide if I like one better than another, it has to be done and in a short amount of time.

With so many lovely entries it is really difficult to choose the best, and unlikely that the DT will have the same top six, or in the same order of preference, and so we have to each pick our favourites, score them from 1st with 6th (where 1st gets 6 points, second gets 5 points and so on), and then everyone chosen is listed and scores noted against them, finally the scores are added together (and in the case of a tie, re-voting for the tied ones has to be done) and the combined scores add up to the following winners:

In first place with this gorgeous easel card is An.

Congratulations An, you have won $10 of Doodle Dragon Studio images! Please email Cazzy using the link in the sidebar to claim your prize (if you know which images you would like please tell us and we will pass the choices on to Dustin), We hope you will join us as a Guest Designer in a couple of weeks time so please let Cazzy know if you can do that and she will give you details.

In second place is Scrappellen with her very detailed and gorgeous card.

Congratulations Scrappellen you have won the exclusive Let it Snow ribbons from Crafty Ribbons. Please email Cazzy using the link in the sidebar with your address and she will arrange for you to receive your prize. We hope you will join us as a Guest Designer in a couple of weeks time so please let Cazzy know if you can do that and she will give you details.

In Third place is Bettina with a gorgeous layered card, such a cute image.

Congratulations Bettina, you have won 3 sets of digital images from The Cutting Cafe! Please email Cazzy using the link in the sidebar to claim your prize (if you know which sets you would like please tell us and we will pass the choices on). We hope you will join us as a Guest Designer in a couple of weeks time so please let Cazzy know if you can do that and she will give you details.

All of you can help yourselves to a winners badge from the sidebar and don't forget to come back later today to find out what the next challenge is.

Challenge #20 2012 - Quirky Monsters

Welcome to another Quirky Challenge. If you want to find out who won the last challenge please scroll down to the post below this one.

Now onto the latest Quirky Cazzy challenge, the title says it all, and I have that song in my head "What's that coming over the hill? Is it a monster?....."

I want to see lots of monsters, the more the merrier! Numbers was popular, I hope Quirky Monsters will be too!

We are happy to tell you we have two sponsors for this challenge and both have great monster images.

Our first place winner will be able to choose 7 images from Bugaboo.

The second place winner will receive $10 to spend at Doodle Dragon Studios.

Both sponsors have provided some images for the team to use, and here are some great examples using our sponsor's images.

First our Guest Designers.

Dannie used Monster Birthday Balloon from Bugaboo for her first card.

Dannie's second card features a monster from the new set by Dustin Pike at Doodle Dragon Studios.

Carissa used a Doodle Dragon Studio monster from the most recent set by Dustin Pike. Love the eyeballs!

For my Bugaboo card I've used, on the outside of the card, Birthday-Monster-Sign. 3D-ed the image and coloured with ProMarkers...
And on the inside of the card, I've used Birthday-Monster-Balloon

For my Dustin Pike card....
...on the outside of the card I've used Monster two, three, five, seven and nine...

and on the inside...I've used Monster Number One!! He looks like he's shouting Happy Birthday! Hope you like them all!!

I worked with two of the Bugaboo monsters 'Birthday monster sign' and 'Birthday monster balloon' to make my card.  I coloured them all in using promarker pens, and cut out the birthday monster balloon image and mounted it on sticky foam pads to make him pop.  I used a similar decoupage technique for the red balloon at the bottom of the Happy sign.

I used Bugaboo's Pretty Please monster to make my cake monster card, coloured her with Promarkers and Trias, and used some freebie paper from Crafts Beautiful mag, with cake ribbon from Crafty Ribbons. I stitched the paper to the card. The sentiment is made of two stamps from the Debbi Moore Birthday sheet.

The inside, clearly my monster didn't get what she wanted and is going very red, Bugaboo Temperamental monster used with more freebie paper.

Well I had to have a hill with that tune going round in my head, I used 4 of the monsters from Doodle Dragon Studios by Dustin Pike, made them different sizes for perspective and then hand cut the hills in a tri-fold card, added some freebie paper for the hills and DCWV sky paper, stamped the greeting, wrote the monster greeting, and that is it! Oh Promarkers used to colour all monsters!

Here is the official video of the song, if it looks black refresh the page!

I have worked with all of the Dustin Pike (Doodle Dragon Studios) Monster images we were given...well they were all so cute I couldn't choose, so it had to be all of them. This handsome looking guy was printed onto the background paper using Craft Artist. Then printed separately and decoupaged to the front using a spring, so he bobbles around.
The inside of the card features all his friends. The group of monsters on the final page are also decoupaged and the central character also mounted on a spring. The result...a nice colourful party invitation. My Daughter now wants a monster party.......(p.s....she is 20 yrs old!)

For my Bugaboo entry I chose the Temperamental Monster. He reminded me of my Son when he was little. (good thing he doesn't read this blog!)

I used the digital image in my cutter software to create a paper piecing. Image is then raised on sticky pads for dimension and as always coloured with promarkers.

Please add a link to your blog post (not your blog) using the biggest blue froggy at the top of the collection, the other one (at the bottom) doesn't do anything that we can tell, and please comment after you have linked.Don't forget to mention Quirky and add a link back to here (please read the rules and if you realised you haven't followed the rules and won't be included in the top three, and you want your entry removed to try again - please email us using the link in the side bar).
