Winners of March Challenge 2017 Quirky Picture This.

Well I think our first challenge was a bit too challenging (or too Quirky) for most people, although it really wasn't that hard if you read the details. We only had 4 entries, but they were all really good.

Here are our winners:

In first place we have:

Congratulations Lisa, you have won a Bugaboo $12 voucher!

In second place we have:

Sue with her fabulous digital scrapbook page.
Sue is in the UK so can choose a mystery ribbon bundle or a £10 voucher to spend with Crafty Ribbons. You might notice that Sue is a member of the Quirky DT, and wonder how she can win a prize - well she entered the challenge before she applied for the DT and has not yet taken part as a DT in a challenge - but she will in April! Not only that she will have some Crafty Ribbons ready for the next challenge sponsored by them!

In third place is:
Marina with her lovely fresh rowing layout.

Congratulations Marina, you have won a $3 voucher to spend at Bugaboo.

That leaves just one more entry, and we don't want to leave it out:

B.G. Payne Crafts layout of their favourite watering hole!
We want to award you a Quirky Runner's up badge.

Thank you to everyone who entered, and don't forget to check back later today to find out about our new challenge!

Challenge #1 2017 - Quirky Picture This! DT Call.

At last we are back with some new team members and all really happy to be up and running once more. Did you miss us?

We have two great sponsors and three prizes for this challenge:

Bugaboo are generously giving our first prize winner a $12 voucher to use in the Bugaboo store, and our third prize winner a $3 voucher.

Crafty Ribbons are giving our second place winner a choice of a lovely mystery ribbon pack (UK winner only), or a £10 voucher (Worldwide).

Instagram Ribbon - Camera

All very nice prizes as I'm sure you will agree.

This is also a DT call, we are now looking for more Quirky Design Team members so please contact me if you are interested.

It had to be a really Quirky challenge to start off with, and the challenge is called Picture This. What I want you to do is use a photograph. You can either add a photo you have taken, or one you love to your project OR you can take inspiration from that photo, either the colours, or to incorporate the elements in the photo (say wood, metal, material that sort of thing) or cut out parts of a photo to use on your project. Add digital images, stamped images and embellishments to your make also.

You must show us the photo you used and tell us how you used it.

Now for some inspiration from the team (visit their blogs by clicking on their name to give them some appreciation):

Cazzy
I used four photos I took with my phone including a selfie, and they are all about my dogs. Mainly my new rescue dog Luna, but Sooty is in the bottom photo too. The far right is when she first arrived, shaved and looking so cute in the buttoned jumper. Later she destroyed the buttons and it had to be sewn together, and now it had a few chunks out of it! The top photo is the first shoe Luna destroyed.
I used Bugaboo's Bugvalpupset which contains the three cute digis you see here, in jpg and png formats. I flipped some of the images. I used a DTP program to add the .png version of the digis and my photo's and a background photo I also took, but made it more transparent. I printed it on paper canvas and stretched it over a frame that was going into the charity bag. I added Crafty Ribbons Instagram camera ribbon and lots of Crafty Ribbons muddy paw print ribbons (I bought six for the price of five), and a few buttons, a bit of twine and an odd sequin that was handy. Crafty Ribbons sell buttons too.

I wrapped the whole frame in paw print ribbons too. When I set this challenge I had no idea if I would be able to make something or what it would be but had dog photos in my mind.

Diane

This was a really difficult challenge for me as I HATE having my photo taken, which means I rarely take any photos myself. That's makes me a bit weird in this day and age I know.

I decided to make a scrapbook page of one of my favourite photos. This was my Maggie, we had her for 17 years until we lost her two years ago. It was actually her anniversary when I started to think about what I could make. Here is my page:-

Tinz

I used the photograph (original) as the focal point od the card. Then added a photo of an ant eating what I have coloured to be a radish (as this is what is 'sitting' on the car). I coloured the image with promarkers. The sentiment was done in Word and then cut to size.

Image used - Picnic ANT

Jane
Here's my card, using the Flower Tag 1 digi:

and this is the photo that inspired it:

I have used a beautiful photo that my husband took in the gorgeous (and themselves quite quirky) gardens of West Green House, a National Trust garden close to Hartley Wintney in Hampshire.  It's only a few miles from us so we visit quite often. I love this circular archway! I took my inspiration from the circle, the red brick, the blue flowers and the plethora of green foliage, and I used Bugaboo's Flower Tag 1 image to make the card.

now let's see what you can do!

Any crafty project is acceptable as usual. Important: BEFORE you link up please add a link to the Quirky Crafts Challenges blog  to your post - or you will not be able to enter. When you have done this you can go ahead and add a link to your blog post or your online photo gallery, SCS etc. using the button or link below. If you do not have a blog (or inlinkz will not accept your non blog link) you can email your entry to us via the sidebar link. Good luck!

May Flowers winners

Wow, such a lot of great entries for our last challenge for a few months. It made it hard to choose our top three as we all liked a different top six!

This is a sad moment for me because it is the first time Quirky has had to take an extended break. Hopefully we can start up again later this year. We have one person interested in joining our team, but we need more for later in the year. If you are interested please get in touch.

We finally managed to choose, and here are our winners:

In first place we chose Lozzy and her pretty pocket letter.
Congratulations Lozzy, you have won the
$15 Ike's Art Voucher!

In second place we chose Lena's beautiful wedding album.
Congratulations Lena, you have won
4 digis of your choice from Delicious Doodles!

In third place we chose Katrina's beautiful flowers and butterfly card.
Congratulations Katrina, you have won
3 digis of your choice from Bloobel Stamps!
Please contact me so that I can arrange for you to receive your prize, if you want to let me know which images you would like I can pass it on to save time. I will make your winner's badges.
Normally I would invite you to be guest designers, but as we are putting challenges on hold for now I can't say when we will be back - but you are welcome to be guest designers if and when we do come back!

May 2016 Midway Reminder - April Showers bring Quirky May flowers!

It's reminder time for our last challenge for a few months, and it's all about flowers, following our Quirky April furry showers!

This is a very popular challenge and you hardly need a reminder!

Also if you are interested in joining the DT later in the year when we hope to resume challenges, please contact me at any time during the next few months.

Our wonderful sponsors for this challenge are:

I just realised I forgot to tell you about the amazing prizes which are:
Ist prize Ike's Art $15 worth of digis of choice
, 2nd Prize Delicious Doodles 4 digis of choice,
3rd prize Bloobel Stamps 3 digis of choice

Now for some inspiration from the team:

A truly beautiful card by Elena using Rosalie from Delicious Doodles. Superb colouring Elena!

I colored my image with Copics, then fussy-cut her and adhered her to my vivid purple paper.
I cut  my pattered paper to the same size as Lulu's Peekaboo circle and now it looks like
she's peeking out of a purple room.
Besides the tiny flowers on my patterned paper, I lined the rim of Lulu's window with jewelled flowers. staying with the flowers theme of this challenge, my sentiment inside reads:
"May your day bloom with wonderful surprises".

Peekaboo Lulu

I colored Daisies & Butterfly Frame from Delicious Doodles with Copics.
Using Photoshop, I used the image to frame a pic of my daughter,
using digital elements and papers to complete my layout.

Nana Connie is unwell and will join us in a few days.

Cazzy
Sorry I'm late! Here is my first card using a gorgeous image from Ike's Art called Greek Window. I have never been to Greece, and would love to visit one day! I googled Greek houses to try and get the colours right.
I will be back with a Bloobel Stamps card next.

Marg

This is my take on Flower Square by Ike's Art
coloured using Sakura Gelly Roll glitter pens,
mounted onto raspberry card, black card, matt gold paper,
added lace and a 6x6 white linen effect card base.
Glitzy Babe sentiment was an afterthought.

May 2016 Challenge #5 April Showers bring Quirky May Flowers

Hi everyone, Cazzy here and I am very excited about this challenge because we have three brand new sponsors to Quirky (although we have used digis by two of them before from Stitchy who are no longer sponsoring challenges).

Last month we had showers of furry friends (and here in the UK we also had showers of rain, sleet, hailstones, mini snowballs and snow), and April Showers result in May Flowers - I want to see flowers on your project, either as part of an image stamped or printed, or as part of the design, or even the paper you use! Easy Peasy then!

Due to unfortunate personal circumstances Quirky will be taking a long break from challenges and this will be the last challenge for a few months.

We are saying goodbye and thank you to the wonderful Nana Connie this month too, taking the team down to just three active members. We wish Nana Connie all the best for the future.

We hope to resume challenges later this year, but we will only be able to do that if we get some applicants for the DT. It would be very sad to see Quirky disappear forever now wouldn't it? So if you want us to keep going please apply to join us ready for a come back later in the year.

Anyway now on to the challenge:

Our wonderful new sponsors for this challenge are:

The team have been generously supplied with digs from all three sponsors to use in this post, and the midway reminder, and here is some inspiration for you:

First our Guest Designers:

Elena used the very quirky Venus Van Trap digi from Bloobel Stamps, and added lots of blooms to her gorgeous card. Elena said: Hello I am Elena F and I´m from The Basque Country, I´m almost 42; mother of 3 children between 11 years and 21 months.  That means I do not have much spare time but the little I have I use in making crafts, especially coloring and scrap but I also sew, knit and crochet....when I can.....but I´m lucky and I´ve got a break in my job currently.

Maya used the beautiful Rosalee digi from Delicious Doodles. She added extra roses to make it special.

Now the Design Team:

                                            Pat

I created a 100% digital card using an image from Ike's Art called Windmill.

using Bloobel Stamps "Thank You for the Flowers"

Colored with ProMarkers, then cut and embossed with a die from Spellbinders.
I added white satin ribbon and decorated it with a few scrap bits
from another die cut.
The butterfly is colored and glittered
and the bow is twine.

I have Love in a Mist in my garden where it grows and seeds like crazy every year and I do love the blue flowers and alien looking seed pods, so I was happy to find this digi from Delicious Doodles. I coloured it with Chameleon pens this time and found the perfect blue cardstock and decided to keep it simple.

using Floral Watering Can by Delicious Doodles

I used alcoholic marker pens from Harmony. The ladybug ribbon is
exclusive to Crafty Ribbons. I decided to slightly cut the picture
down to fit into the dies I wanted to use. I had, though, already
got the toppers already die cut (luckily in the colours I wanted too).
The lace was an afterthought so I "tucked" it under the outer edge
of the bottom scalloped edge squared die cut.
I have 2 more cards to add which should be added tomorrow

To see who won the last challenge see the previous post below this one.

Winners of the January challenge - Let's Quirky Celebrate!

What a great start to 2016.  We had some lovely entries and a such lot of them. The requirement was to have the word celebrate, or celebration somewhere on your creation.  The 14 entries that were eligible to be in the top three were the ones who had the words "CELEBRATE" or "CELEBRATION" on them somewhere that we could see.   Unfortunately, the others had to be disallowed or it would not be fair to the ones who followed the requirements.

Our sponsor for this challenge was the wonderful Stitchy Bear Digital Outlet, who have such a wide range of digital images and artists that we can always find something we love!

Didn't our new team do well, too, with some lovely examples for our first challenge together?

Sadly, Lynne is unable to continue at the moment, due to health reasons, and we are saying goodbye to her already.  Thank you for all you have done in your first month with us Lynne.  We hope you will come back to us when you are able.

Now for the important news that you all want to know, here are our top three who are all prize winners:

In first place with a stunning 1920's Art Deco style card is Yogi!

yogiemp.com/HP_cards/MiscChallenges/MiscChallenges2016/MCJan16_EaselQuill_ArtDecoFan_ECDCelebrate_LetTheBeauty.html

In second place with some crazy cats on her lovely shaker card is Rae Ann!

Congratulations, Rae Ann, you have won 3 digital images or sets from the ones used by the Quirky DT and listed on the challenge post.

In third place with a very pretty shaker card is Stempelomi!

Congratulations, Stempelomi, you have won 2 digital images or sets from the ones used by the Quirky DT and listed on the challenge post.

Finally we have a Runner Up, and that is Kevin with this beautiful card.

Congratulations, Kevin, we have a Special Runner Up badge just for you!

Please, can all of you contact me with your choices of digital images, and I will send your personalised winner's badges and arrange for you to get your prizes.  We would love you all to be guest designers in our March challenge if you are able.   Please let me know if you can join us.

Thank you to everyone who entered, and don't forget to check back at 6 pm today to find out about our new challenge!

If you would like to join our happy team please contact me by email or the contact form, both in the sidebar.

January midway reminder #1 2016 Let's Quirky Celebrate

Hi everyone, I'm here to remind you to play along with our January challenge, I'm only just getting used to calling the challenge by the month now that we have gone monthly, it is easier than numbers!

Here is your reminder about the challenge and our sponsor.

My challenge is called Let's Quirky Celebrate, and I want to see you play along with projects that include the word Celebrate or Celebration, and it can be any kind of celebration you like, and any kind of hand made project.

We are sponsored by the wonderful Stitchy Bear Digital Stamps who are providing all three prizes to our winners.

Who are generously providing the following prizes:

1st prize of 3 images of choice from the whole of the store
2nd prize Any 3 of the images used by the DT
3rd prize any 2 of the DT´s chosen imagesB - listed below

The images kindly supplied to the Design Team by Stitchy Bear are:

CraftyGirl Creations

BBKakes

Floppy Latte Designs

Stitchy Stamps

My Heart Pieces

Beary Dust

Now let's look at the wonderful projects from the team, I'm sure they will inspire you to play along.

using sponsor image "Pretty in Pink"
to make a card that celebrates Love.

The image is colored using ProMarkers and chalk, then die cut and framed.  I used burgundy CS to back the die cut frame, embossed the background, and added two different ribbons for embellishment.  The bow is a single layer, five-loop bow done with 1/8 inch ribbon.

Hi it's Lynne here with my midway card to share with you using Digi Blessings Sewing Mends the Soul. My first love is sewing and I always love to create with things that are related to sewing - thus, this adorable bear doing a cross-stitch gift to celebrate someone's birthday with the word, "celebrate" faux stitched on the heart!!! I had a lot of fun adding buttons, charm, and pearls along with a ribbon.

Creative juices were running wild and perhaps quirky when I found this cupcake paper and just knew that I had the purrfect sentiment to use on the inside which I wanted to share with you AND of course, the Stickles Fairy along with Cupcake Border Punch came into play. Hope you stop by and visit me to learn all the fun elements that I used making this special birthday card.

Hey crafters! Pat here reminding you to share your projects and cards with us for the January challenge. The theme is Celebrate! and I got to play with this lovely digi image from our sponsor, Stitchy Bear. It's called "Lake Winter." I lightly colored over the entire image with Copic BG10, then used a toothbrush and white acrylic paint to add more snow to the scene. I framed it all with assorted shades of teal. I snagged a package of lacy paper doilies from my local thrift store today and used one to make my image pop on my easel card.

I have used Wonderland Cake from Stitchy Bear Stamps.  It is coloured with Wink of Stella pens and Graph It alcohol markers. I printed the image four times and decoupaged it for the main focal point and cut elements from the other two (which I had also flipped to give it a even quirkier look) as embellishments. The Happy Birthday paper is from my stash.  The sentiment is a freebie stamp which I have stamped on to pattern paper in Rich Cocoa Momento ink and cut out using a Stampin' Up decorative punch.

I used this really cute Baby by Beary Dust, and although I am a little late for this post I am well ahead for my new Granddaughter's 1st Birthday! It has to be a first for me. The word celebrate appears on the stamped ribbon and background definitions. I am celebrating having a Granddaughter, and her birthday in advance! More details on my blog.

 Marg will be along later.
