British Muslim Convert Thomas Evans Dies Fighting for al-Shabab in Kenya

There comes a point when we need to ask ourselves: "What's more important, the lives lost in the name of Islam or the feelings of those who defend it?" So far, politicians and the media are convinced that the feelings of Muslims are far more important than those killed in the name of Allah.

BBC—The mother of a British man killed while fighting for Islamist militant group al-Shabab in Kenya has told the BBC her "whole world has fallen apart".

Sally Evans, from Buckinghamshire, said a journalist had phoned to tell them Muslim convert Thomas, 25, had died.

Her other son Michael said that when he looked on Twitter, the first thing he found was a picture of Thomas's body.

"We remember him as being my brother, your son," he told the BBC. "But to everyone else he's just a terrorist."

Kenyan officials have confirmed that Thomas Evans was killed on Sunday when al-Shabab fighters attacked a military base in the north of the country.

Militants armed with AK47s and grenades raided the base in Lamu County, close to the Somali border, and then stormed a nearby village.

Eleven gunmen were killed in total and two Kenyan soldiers also died.

Evans, who had changed his name to Abdul Hakim, contacted his family in 2012 to say he had travelled to Somalia to join the militant group.

At least 50 British citizens are believed to have joined al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda affiliate based in Somalia, which has been behind a series of high-profile attacks in Kenya and Somalia.

Ms Evans, from Wooburn Green, said she would remember her son as "the little boy who had a bright future before he went down the path he went down".

She said he had met "some people with some very twisted, warped ideas of Islam" in the local area to begin with, and was later influenced by online material. (Continue Reading.)

Dozens of Kenyan Police Killed by Al-Shabab

Muslims make up a little over 10% of the population of Kenya. Yet the citizens of Kenya are victims of regular Islamic terrorist attacks. Can we talk about Islam yet?

NAIROBI, Kenya-Al Shabab gunmen killed around 25 Kenyan police on Monday, ambushing some officers in a village in the east of the country after others died when their vehicle hit a landmine planted by the militants, their military spokesman said.

The Islamist group also burnt five vehicles in the two incidents, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab said.

"We took all their weapons. There were some Kenyan forces that escaped in the course of the ambush fighting," he said.

Some 20 police died in the ambush, which occurred in Monday evening in Yumbis village, 45 miles north of the town of Garissa, the Standard and Daily Nation newspapers said.

Last week, al Shabab attacked Yumbis and hoisted their flag on a mosque where they held prayers before heading to another nearby village.

Police spokesman Masoud Mwinyi confirmed there had been an attack in Yumbis. Other government officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Al Shabab, which has carried out several attacks in Kenya in recent years to try to force Nairobi to withdraw its troops from Somalia, attacked a university in the same area last month and killed 148 people. (Continue Reading.)

GARISSA, Kenya (AP) — One of the gunmen who slaughtered 148 people at a college in Kenya was identified Sunday as the law-school-educated son of a Kenyan government official, underscoring the inroads Islamic extremists have made in recruiting young people to carry out attacks against their own country.

Abdirahim Mohammed Abdullahi, who was killed by security forces Thursday along with the three other militants who stormed Garissa University College, was the son of a government chief in Mandera County, which borders Somalia, Interior Ministry spokesman Mwenda Njoka told The Associated Press.

The chief had reported his son missing last year and feared he had gone to Somalia, Njoka said.

Somalia's al-Shabab militant group claimed responsibility for the bloodbath, saying it was retribution for Kenya's sending of troops to Somalia to fight the extremists. The attackers separated Christian students from Muslim ones and massacred the Christians. (Continue Reading.)

Al-Shabaab Attack in Kenya Leaves at Least 70 Dead, 79 Injured

Al-Shabaab is killing in the name of Allah. The Taliban is killing in the name of Allah. Al-Qaeda is killing in the name of Allah. ISIS is killing in the name of Allah. Boko Haram is killing in the name of Allah. They're all quoting Allah and Muhammad to justify the killings. Yet we're still not allowed to have an open, honest discussion about the commands of Allah and Muhammad.

NAIROBI, Kenya—Gunmen attacked a university campus in eastern Kenya early Thursday, clashing with guards, forcing their way into dormitories, taking hostages and singling out non-Muslims, the police said.

At least 70 people were killed in the attack and 79 more were injured, the Kenya National Disaster Operation Center said in a Twitter message.

Kenyan security forces surrounded the campus of Garissa University College and clashed with the gunmen throughout the day, eventually cornering them in one dormitory, officials said. Abdikadir Sugow, the spokesman for the Garissa county government, said the gunmen were seen wearing “combat gear,” including what appeared to be “either bulletproof vests or suicide bomb vests.”

The Shabab, an extremist group based in Somalia, issued a statement through a radio station it controls claiming responsibility for the attack. It said its fighters attacked the university early Thursday morning, began separating Muslims from non-Muslims and started an “operation against the infidels.” The group said in its statement that its fighters were still inside the university. MOGADISHU, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Somali al Shabaab militants stoned a woman to death in the southern town of Barawe on Friday after a court they had set up declared her guilty of adultery, the militants and witnesses said.

The group, which pledges loyalty to al Qaeda, has waged an armed campaign to impose its strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law. Forced out of many areas of the east African country by African Union forces and the Somali army, al Shabaab is keen to show it has authority over areas it still controls.

Hundreds gathered to watch the killing of Safia Ahmed Jimale in an open field. The 33-year old mother was buried up to her shoulders and pelted with stones by masked al Shabaab fighters and local men.

Some in the audience vomited, said resident Ahmed Abdullahi, who was in the crowd. The killing was witnessed by the al Shabaab governor for the region.

Her body was then dug out of the ground and carried away for funeral prayers, Abdullahi said.

A man who presented himself as an al Shabaab judge said Jimale had confessed to having three husbands. He said the three men were not aware they were married to the same woman and had testified against her.

Jimale had admitted her guilt before the court and declared she was ready to be stoned to secure God's forgiveness, said the unidentified judge.

Courts set up by the militants do not allow legal representation or appeals. Jimale's family could not be reached for comment.

Somali Woman Killed for Refusing to Wear Veil (American Feminists Silent, as Usual)

Muhammad's wife Aisha once said: “I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5825). According to Aisha, Muslim women are treated worse than Jewish women, Christian women, or pagan women. It's odd, then, that so many Muslims in the West claim that Islam liberates women.

BBC—Militant Islamists in Somalia have shot dead a Muslim woman for refusing to wear a veil, her relatives say.

Ruqiya Farah Yarow was killed outside her hut near the southern Somali town of Hosingow by gunmen belonging to the al-Shabab group, they say.

The militants had ordered her to put on a veil, and then killed her after returning and finding she was still not wearing one, the relatives said.

An al-Shabab spokesman denied the group had killed the woman.

Al-Shabab does not fully control the area where she was living, he added.

Relatives, who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals, told the BBC that Mrs Yarow was killed at about 07:30 (04:30 GMT).

She was shot twice and died instantly, they added.

She is survived by her husband and children, the relatives said.

Al-Shabab, which controls much of southern and central Somalia, imposes strict rules of behaviour, including dress codes for men and women. (Continue Reading.)

Jihadists Kill 48 in Kenya

Girls are being kidnapped and raped in Nigeria. Christians are being horribly oppressed in Pakistan. Al Qaeda is rapidly subjugating Iraq. Syria is being laid waste by jihadists. And Muslims are going door to door in Kenya killing non-Muslims.

Are we allowed to have an open, honest discussion about Islam yet?

Associated Press—The gunmen went door to door in the Kenyan costal town, demanding to know if the men inside were Muslim and if they spoke Somali. If the extremists did not like the answers, they opened fire, witnesses said on Monday.

Al-Shabab, a Somali al-Qaeda-linked group, claimed responsibility for the hours-long assault on Mpeketoni in which 48 people were killed. The attack began Sunday night as residents watched World Cup matches on TV and lasted until early Monday, with little resistance from Kenya's security forces.

After daybreak, Kenyan troops and residents stared at the bodies lying on dirt streets by still-smoldering buildings. Two hotels and many vehicles were set on fire.

The attack highlights the growing incidents of Islamic extremist violence in a country that was once viewed as the bastion of stability in East Africa, drawing tourists from around the world for safaris and beach holidays. The U.S. ambassador made Kenya's entire coastal region off-limits for embassy employees after the attack.

The merciless life-or-death religious assessment recalled al-Shabab's attack on an upscale mall in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, last September in which at least 67 people were killed, some of them after not being able to answer questions about Islam. (Continue Reading.)
