Jessica- Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas and Studio Paints

There's alot of cute shaped albums out there, but sometimes the cover art just isn't what you need. I have had this cute bracket shaped mini from the Love, Elsie "Daisy" line, however I do not have a dog! Luckily the sticky back canvas solved that problem.

Altering a Mini Album Using Claudine Hellmuth's Sticky-Back Canvas
Designed and Taught by Jessica Summers

SUPPLIES
Claudine Hellmuth Sticky-Back Canvas
Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints- Classic Teal, Dash of Red, Charcoal Black
Claudine Hellmuth Studio Paints- Multi-Medium Gloss
Ranger Archival Ink- Black
Foam Stamp
Sizzix Die Cutting Machine
Sizzix Die- Charms, Flowers #2
Brads for floral centers
Thin strip of cardstock
Background Stamp
Stickles

TOOLS
Craft Knife, Scissors, Crop-A-Dile, Foam Brush, Paint Brush, Ranger Non-Stick Craft Sheet, Black Pen, Strong Glue Dots, Heat Gun, Paper Towels, Water for Washing Brushes, Water for Blending.

HOW TO
1.Trace around the outer edge of your mini onto the backside of your canvas sheet; cut out and attach to the mini album cover.
2.Scoop out a portion of the multi-medium onto your craft sheet. Using your foam stamp, dab into the multi-medium until you have an even layer. Stamp directly onto your canvas. Allow to dry.
3.While the medium is drying, cut out 3 circles, each measuring: 3.5” (8,9 cm), 3” (7,6 cm), and 2.5” (6,4 cm).
4.Paint the larger circle and one small die-cut flower black and the smallest circle red. Set aside to dry.
5.The medium sized circle will have a blending technique.
1.Paint the medium flower teal, but leave about ¾ of a centimeter around the edge plain.
2.Blend a dab of red and a dab or teal onto your craft mat to make a purple shade. Water down the new color.
3.Using a small amount of the purple at a time, paint onto the edge of the flower and blend into the teal color.
4.Set aside to dry.
6.Paint a die-cut flower with any remaining purple, and the last flower teal.
7.By now the multi-medium should be dry. Add a scoop of teal pain onto your craft mat and water down with a paint brush. Paint over your canvas to expose the medium (this technique is called a “faux batik”). With a paper towel, quickly wipe away the paint from atop the medium. Continue to paint until you achieve your desired color. Set aside to dry.
8.Stamp a background image onto your red circle.
9.Cut your circles according to the diagram provided. Once the flower petals are cut, score and fold each one in half. Leaving the paper lining on the back of the canvas will help flowers keep their shape. However, this can also be achieved by applying a coat of the multi-medium and allowing it to dry.

10.Layer your flowers, attaching a brad to the middle. Adhere to your mini.
11.As a final touch, you can add little droplets of the multi-medium to your flowers for a handmade “raindrop.”

ADDITIONAL TIPS, IDEAS, AND USES
- For a complete color mixing guide, visit: http://www.collageartist.com/chstudio_colormixing.pdf.
- How To Make a Glaze: Mix together a bit of paint with the multi-medium. The more multi-medium used, the more transparent the paint glaze will be.
-Print on Canvas with computer printer (not recommended for laser printers)
-Resist Technique using Ranger Watermark Resist Pad
-Sew onto t-shirts or make purses.
-Faux Batik
-Glue with the Gel Medium
-Water down colors for translucent coloring.
-Mix with Ranger Perfect Pearls: Run canvas through an embossing folder. Outline the embossed area with a Ranger Perfect Pen in clear. Dust lightly with Perfect Pearls. Mixing the paint with Perfect Pearls also gives a beautiful look.
-Works well with die cutting machines and a Bind-It-All.

(Backyard) Sizzle, Snap
Doodlebug- flocked black
My Little Shoebox- My Neighbourhood
12x12 Canvas frame

Stamps- Art warehouse
Heidi Swapp- Felt butterflies
Prima crystal swirls
Stix2 PVA and foils
Other: Twigs, wooden coffee sticks, string pearls, straw, reindeer moss, seed beads, pom-pom trim Silver foil, shells, silver bells, magic mesh, Dymo tape, lace, craft wire, acrylic paint, white card.
HOW TO
Paint the inside edge of the frame with black acrylic paint and leave to dry.
Glue a piece of Jack Be Nimble paper across the top half of the inside frame.
Cut two hill shapes from the reverse Baby Bunting and Snap papers. Ink the edges, add lace to the back of each ‘hill’ then glue onto the layout across the centre.
Cut a piece of Sizzle paper to fit along the bottom of canvas and glue into position.
Cut three tree shapes from the reverse of Snap and Jack Be Nimble paper. Stamp one with dots stamp and emphasis some of the dots with a white pen. Glue into position at the top of the canvas. Add twigs to form the branches and trunks. I then made some roses made by cutting circles from the reverse Teachers pet, cutting into a spiral and then folding the spiral inwards to form the flower. This technique I learnt from my talented friend Lucy Folch. These were added to the trees.
I added clouds cut from Hickory Dickory and matted them onto silver foil. Cut houses from the My little Shoebox paper and place on top of the hill. Cut a path from white card and glue into position coming down the hills. Edge with string pearls.
Paint coffee sticks with white acrylic paint then pearl dabber when dry. Trim the length and fix together to form a fence. Glue into position across the left/middle page.
Cut a path that will go along the bottom of canvas. Add seed beads to form gravel. Glue into position and edge with pearl beads.
Form spirals of paper and glue into position along the edge of the path. Glue reindeer moss into the garden borders. Cut the inner flowers of the Mary Quite Contrary paper and glue along the borders. Add gems to flower centres. Form a plant support with three small pieces of straw. Add spirals of paper and more flowers.
Cut heart shapes from Sadie Hawkins paper. Use these to make flower shapes on the fence and shells to go along top of garden.
Add photos.
Cover the edge of the canvas frame with Doodlebug Flocked paper.
Add butterflies with craft wire spirals and pearl bodies to top right of canvas.
Paint two shells with acrylic paint. When dry, brush Stix2 pva on shell ridges. When dry, add Stix2 foil on the pva.
Add mesh to bottom left corner of canvas. Glue shells onto mesh and add a ribbon bow and a cluster of silver bells. Add Prima crystal swirls.
Finish by adding title. Enjoy!

Moniek- Piggy Tales

When I first saw the Piggy Tales Mulan collection with the black and red patterns I immediately thought about the soccer outfit of my son. The colors of his club are black and red!
Most of the papers have an asian print, but I used the Valiant Soldier paper with the strips..... perfect for a soccer layout of my son!

I use a Heidi Swapp 9x9 album for all soccer layouts, so this layout is 9x9.

Emma- **OCTOBER AFTERNOON**

Is it a monster?
by Emma Trout

SUPPLIES
Bazzill cardstock –Raven and white
Patterned papers: October Afternoon (Night Light) Ellie, Henry, Louie, Charles
(Hometown) Woolworths
(County Fair) Blue Ribbon Quilt
Scenic Route- background worn lined paper
Alphas- American Crafts Thickers (Sprinkles, black), Making Memories tiny alpha (black), Dymo
Stamps- Art Warehouse
Coloured pencils, buttons, gems, chipboard pieces, red card.
HOW TO
Cut a rectangle of white Bazzill and use patterned papers to create ‘scenery’ and add to layout. I used coloured pencils to shade between the ‘sun rays’. Draw and shade a frame, matt the inner edge with red card and layer on top of your ‘scenery’ with foam pads.
Use chipboard pieces to create an easel stand, paint then ink the edges and add to layout
Draw, then cut a tree and decorate with buttons and gems. Add to corner of frame.
Draw an ‘open book’ on the lined paper. Add photos and patterned paper and fix to left of frame.
Stamp onto lined paper using a journaling stamp and the circle of words. Add to layout and add monsters cut from patterned paper. Add triangles and a strip of paper to the bottom of layout.
Finish with journaling and the title.
