Pearls and Lace Thursday #52

Stitches from the Past to the Present

Works in crochet as well as tatting are some of my very favorites.  I have learned both crafts (tatting is easy by the way...I learned over the internet!!) and enjoy them at various times during the year.  Whenever I see vintage work though, I just drool.  The women of history have left a wealth of beauty for us to enjoy, and just think...if you are a crafter, someday in the future, YOUR work will be handled gently and loved by someone and maybe even be blogged about!!

This sweet little baby cap is silky soft with a lining of muslin.  The stitching is wonderful, and I know that loving hands made it and cared for it over the years.  Though not my own, it has recently become mine, and who knows...maybe some day I'll be a grandmother to a baby girl and I can take pictures of her wearing it, and then pass it on!

The ball of thread is from the attached doily that ruffles and swirls into a large sized doily.  It's not complete, but it's close.  Should I finish it?  Or should I leave it as is by the original stitcher??

The crocheted roses are from the Present...I made them.  I have a huge jar that I keep them all in...various colors of crochet thread and lots of roses!  I've used some on my heart shaped pillows (a few are on the pillow on the right), and I love the softness they add to my projects.  The heart shaped crocheted pink pin cushion is an older relic from a bygone day.  Well worn, it saw its share of pins and I'm sure was loved by the previous owner.  A whole shopping bag full of sewing goodness for a song!!

The tatting was from an etsy sale, as are many of the objects in that box, but they are favorites and therefore beloved by me!!

You know, I aspire to take beautiful photos of beautiful (to me) objects.  This particular grouping was the easiest to put together for me because it includes ALL of my favorites...sewing, roses, vintage yummyness as that awesome box!  If any of you have a similar box (with roses or something sweet covering it) that you'd be willing to sell, please email me and let me know about it...I'd love to add to my 'collection'!!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #51 and Giveaway Winner!!

A Bit of Glass.
Sometimes I just can't say no to purchasing a piece of glass...there's something about it.  Whether it's the design of the piece, or the color, maybe it's the shape, but all of a sudden I have a whole 'collection' of glassware and when I look for places to display it, well....I have to make room.

The Basket above is white with such a pretty ruffled scalloped edge I just HAD to have it.  Perfect too because my husband liked it and it didn't cost much.  I have some rectangular shaped prisms filling it, but it's hard to photograph, but it's pretty in the sun.

A very recent find is the crocheted dresser scarf above.  The pinks caught my attention first, then as I got closer I saw the textures of the handwork.  I see where doilies were crocheted for the edges, but the panel above the edge is huckweaving I think....anyone want to tell me the proper name for it??

I've filled this sugar bowl with prisms from a chandelier and just LOVE how they sparkle.  Sure do wish I could capture that with my camera!!

I have a winner for the lace roses I've been making lately.  Please email me your mailing address and I will get them to you in the next week.
Congratulations to  Trisha!!

Pearls and Lace Thursday #43 and Giveaway Continues!!!

I fell in love with Silver all over again when I saw this little tray/bowl...
ribbon, flowers, heart-shaped, so sweet, and I just held it close and let it know it had a new home!!

I also found some LOVELY spoons to add to my growing collection of silver spoons.

This is the newest set, 6 spoons with a Grape pattern on them, from Rogers Bros.  I couldn't locate the pattern with a certainty to find out the name...anyone know?

A pair of shell cufflinks I found a month or so ago...

Pearl glass beads...hollow and light-weight.  They are so gorgeous.
And the old wooden paddles are a recent find as well.  There are fibers still enmeshed in the brush!
Now the old rhinestone necklace is going to be added to the box of my Spring Giveaway items!!!
You might want to check out the Giveaway here so that you can join in!!

I usually try to stay true to the 'Vintage' or 'Antique' finds when I'm shopping lately, but I saw this swag of roses that have been made to look shabby, and well, I couldn't let that pass now could I???
And the platter below is one of a number of platters I found at a dear ladie's sale.  Gorgeous pink and green, beautiful edging, just my style!

This serving piece is unique...
It says on the FRONT, 'Hilton Coffee Shop', and on the
BACK it says Huey and Phlp Berkley
Looks like a sugar spoon....
I wonder...did it sell from their Coffee Shop back when, or did some well dressed lady 'stash' it in her muff to carry away with her???  I don't even remember where I found it now, but I only just today realized it had this on the front!!

I hate to iron, but wanted to starch this little doily so that I could use it in my Pearls and Lace Thursday Post today.  I also have a huge pile of linens to starch, including some recently posted napkins that need a lot of attention!
Be sure and check out the Giveaway I'm having, and I've added some doily medallions already, as well as today's rhinestone necklace.  I don't know how big the box is going to be yet, so be sure and stay tuned!
Remember, it ends on May 10th!!

Details are located on the Giveaway post here, and you can also earn another chance to win by joining me here this week as well as at the Giveaway Party with your own URL to your Blog Post.  We love looking at your beauties, pearls or lace, rhinestones or treasures, please join me and then hop over to the other participants.

A HUGE Thank You!

I have a huge thank you to give to Rhonda at  A Little bit French  for my gorgeous gift!  It is a lovely lacy pocket that is hand crafted by her talented hands!
The package itself was a delight to open, with the gift wrapped in tissue from a dress pattern as well as vintage seam binding for ribbon.

I decided that the twin doily to the blue rose doily that I posted about here would be the perfect choice to show off the lace pocket.  There are some differences in the two, but they are both charming.

The attention to each little detail speaks for the professional manner in which Rhonda creates.

There were even slips of paper wrapped in vintage ribbon with a tiny little charm attached!  How sweet it all looks together!  I am so thrilled to have this beautiful project by such a talented artist!!
Thank you so much Rhonda!!!

Please check out her blog and see how talented she is!  She has a gorgeously vintage and lacy blog that I adore, as well as an Etsy store!   She also hosts a giveaway each Friday!!!!
I hope you all have a lovely Sunday!
Blessings,
Doni

Pearls and Lace Thursday #15

A new Lamb for the Fold!
What a special gift...a little ceramic lamb from a dear dear friend.
She heard about my previous lamb 'find' and gave me one that had belonged to her own Mother!!
I will always treasure it because of the love it symbolizes.

The new blue doily with the rose in the center has become one of my very favorites. I'll show you the sister doily later. I wondered if I could crochet a doily using this blue one for the pattern and have now made 2 of them using the same stiches as the original! I am so excited. I didn't even know I could make one. You can see my previous try below, the blue stitching that turned out so loose and awful that I quit before I finished it, and that was a lot of years ago!!

The above pins were an Ebay win a few weeks ago. I am delighted with the detail and daintiness (sp?) of these collar pins.

The hand painted salt shaker above has been the perfect place for my rhinestone stick pins now for a long long time. I'm kind of surprised though that many times over the years I keep hearing the words, "you know that's a salt shaker, not a pin holder". So? Who REALLY cares? It's mine isn't it? Can't I stick pins in a salt shaker if I want to???
I have seen so many beautiful items used for things that they weren't intended for and always been so excited that someone thought of the idea to re-purpose an item to show it off.

This is the 15th Pearls and Lace Thursday and I'd like to invite you to join me. Share with us a post of your pretties, include any or all of your beautiful laces and jewelry, vintage or new.
We love to see bling, so show if off here!
Link the url to your post by clicking on the 'Linky' tool below, and please visit the others too.
Blessings to you!
