A Chicago Retreat

Image
Hello and welcome to this short reflection on the recent Catholic Unscripted Chicago roadshow. Gavin, Katherine and I were all very fortunate to be invited to visit Chicago for a series of meetings, talks and interviews. When was the last time you heard anyone recommend Chicago, Illinois, for a Catholic retreat or pilgrimage?  I'm guessing the answer is never. Well, when my friends heard I was going to visit with my Catholic Unscripted friends Katherine and Gavin, I received quite a few troubled looks and messages of concern.  Perhaps this is because Chicago is, after all, somewhat synonymous with gun violence. It regularly attracts attention from the press, politicians, and, especially advocates on both sides of the firearms debate in the United States.  The New York Times recently ran a series of articles on shootings in the city where the Reverend Michael Pfleger, a prominent anti-violence activist and pastor on the city’s South Side, described Chicago as “the...

The Injustice of Traditiones Custodes

Image
There's no doubt that Pope Francis has caused massive damage throughout the Catholic Church by spreading confusion, lies and misinformation, not to mention promoting seriously compromised and dangerous and abusive men to high office and facilitating liturgical travesties like the Pachamamma worship in the Vatican gardens. But by far the most unjust thing he has enacted is Traditiones custodes . Why? Well, because it singles out those who most want to love Christ, those most loyal to the papacy, and penalises them for their fidelity and faithfulness. Pope Francis has enacted a Trad exclusion programme. It seems now, for the first time, even lay people have started to make public their disquiet at the injustice of the situation. And what better place than Chicago, where Bergoglio's (once) favourite (the signs are that this is no longer the case...Which is why he is not in Rome) and McCarrick protégé Blaise Cupich has been swift and draconian in forcing restrictions on any parish ...

The Pope who deprives Catholics of the Sacraments & Mass

Image
Some more difficult news broke over the weekend for Traditional Catholics. Sorry it has taken me so long to get this post out; I still feel it is important to post it, for the record. Last Friday the bishop of Savannah, Georgia, posted a letter  updating instructions on the use of the 1962 missal in the diocese. Bishop Parkes wrote to the Congregation for Divine Worship (now the Dicastery for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments) in mid-April to request permissions for specific parish churches in his diocese. In late May, he received a response from Rome containing the following: The Mass according to the  Missale Romanum of 1962  may be celebrated at the parish of Sacred Heart (*) in Savannah on a weekly basis until May 20, 2023. The Mass according to the  Missale Romanum of 1962  may be celebrated at the parishes of Most Holy Trinity in Augusta, St. Joseph in Macon and St. Anthony of Padua in Ray City on a monthly basis until May 20, 2023. * In impl...

Catholic Faithful Boo Cupich at Prolife Rally

Image
For just how long will the Catholic faithful accept a bishop who is consistently problematic before they start to speak out? This weekend, Cardinal Blaise Cupich spoke at the March for Life rally in Chicago. He was heckled and booed and eventually led away by security. Catholics clearly have had enough. Cardinal Cupich started the day off with a VERY pro-abort tweet (corrected after outrage but awful nonetheless): CNA wrote a decent report on this which presents the reasons for Cupich's poor reception from marchers:  Cupich was criticized by some in the pro-life movement last year for leading an effort to head off a direct confrontation between the United States Conference of Bishops and President Joe Biden, who as the country's second Catholic president has pursued policies at odds with official Church teaching against abortion and same-sex marriage. A year ago Cupich took to Twitter to issue a scathing criticism of what he called an "ill-considered" statement the...

A common theme: those seeking to curb the Latin Mass always seem to be involved in all kinds of pagan promotion

Eamon Martin KC*HS (born 30 October 1961) is an Irish prelate of the Catholic Church who has been Archbishop of Armagh and the Primate of All Ireland since 2014. The above is a recording of his Midnight Mass 24th December 2021 broadcast into every home in Ireland. If you are wondering why there are no vocations in Ireland, look no further than this. Can you honestly say this is a religion that can be taken seriously? It is the Irish Church’s failures which have caused people to pick secularism over faith and this shows why. Irish Catholic Church has been decimated and will close 1200 churches over the next 30 years. With the Vatican issuing clamp downs on the faithful who value reverence and orthodoxy, this is what the Primate of all Ireland gives us on Christmas Eve. In 1975, the Vatican’s Congregation for the Sacraments and Divine Worship issued Dance in the Liturgy , which it declared is to be treated as “an authoritative point of reference for every discussion on the matter....
