Check out the Rest (Jan-2022)

I am ridiculously far behind on posting stuff, but I refuse to let this little thing I do die, so here is the rest of the COMC package I received like 2 weeks ago. One of my top 5 pick-ups of 2021, Sandy Alomar, Jr. has been in a ton of these Topps Archives Buyback releases, but I finally spotted one that featured one of his few Rockies cards. I paid $20 for this serial number 3/4 and was very happy to do so.

TCDB Trade #100

I honestly don't keep track of these things, but looking at completed transactions, I now have 100 on TCDB. A site a be-grudgingly joined after the death (heartless murder) of Zistle has become a pretty big part of my hobby-ing. Fittingly trade 100 is a pretty big one, with some stuff I am pretty excited about, starting with the last 2 Redskins for need for the 1990 Fleer Update team set. I have mentioned before this is the first football set I remember opening packs of (I pulled a Jeff George rookie) so it has sentimental value. I also just like the design with the strong team color.

A Very Clutch Trade

Lots of trade requests coming in on TCDB, it is as is people have extra time on their hands for some reason. Anyway, starting off with some 2020 Gypsy Queen. I skipped my almost annual Gypsy Queen boxes on favor of Heritage this year, but I will still pick up some here and there, including Chance Sisco for the catcher binder and a couple young Rockies.

10 From Sportlots

2015 Gypsy Queen for some reason has been a huge pain to finish. I finished 2016 a long time ago and other than maybe 2011 no other set has given me as much grief. A quick sportlots search took me a little closer. For some reason these short prints have a high asking price most places, but these we all 50 cents a piece, a total no-brainer at that price. This plus another order leave me just 4 shy.

A Rare Intraprovincial Trade

A rare trade in which the cards didn't even have to leave the province, the start being St. Robert from last years Canadian Tire set, followed up by a big stack of set help.

Sportlots

A quick little Sportlots mail-day that is severely lacking a witty title. As with most Sportlots orders there was one card I really wanted, then the rest just filled it out to make shipping worthwhile. The main card was the above Tim Cheveldae, a good Saskatchewan boy and former Saskatoon Blade, I didn't remember him being with the Bruins, probably because he only played two games for them. I know nothing about this release other than it has a playing card back and I assume it's the hockey version of the Showdown MLB and NFL releases.

A Sportlots Order Mash-up

A combination of Sportlots.com withdrawal and a little worry about 2018 postage increases led to finally sorting out the mass of cards in my cart and pull the trigger on a couple orders, presented here not by order, but mixed up by theme to a point. During my current Rockies re-organize and entry to tcdb (R.I.P. zislte) I realized all my Denny Neagle cards were boring, this is no longer the case. I have very few 2002 Upper Deck, but now I have the important one.

TCDB Trade #13

Short on fancy titles today, just a trade post from TCDB. As I update my wantlist and tradelist a few more things are coming up, including this trade with a lot of different things going on. Starting of with some 2017 Bunt. I always expect Bunt to be a boring, low-end set not worthy of much attention, but I am really digging the parallels here

Another Small Zistle trade

The vultures may be circling, but there are still a few stubborn traders left, and I managed to find one. Highlight card is this Seth Smith 2009 OPC Black parallel. These just look so sharp, simple design, nice black borders and for some reason the light blue goes with the Rockies purple.

Football Filled Zistle Trade

Some nice Redskins coming my way via zistle, including 4 Topps Fire, these look really good with the Burgundy and Gold background. The Silas Redd is a Flame Foil parallel which don't look as good as the base set to me, but still a cool card.

Zistle Trade #38

More zistle.com trades, this time trade #5 (I think) with hpennington22, the majority of the package was 2012 Prestige, a set that I am chipping away at slowly, rather than scan a bunch of base, here are 3 short printed rookie cards, one of the few times you will see Dallas or Philly pictured here.

Final Zistle Trade of 2014

Just getting around to posting the last Zistle trade of the year, staring off with my favorite card of the batch, a Jim Lachey from 1992 Wild Card. While not a member of the original Hogs Offensive Line, Lachey was one of the better lineman in the league when healthy, and looks like an honorary Hog in this photo.

Recent Football Pick-ups

Another edition of "cleaning out the scanned cards folder", this time showing off some Redskins. First up is kicker Graham Gano from 2011 Panini Adrenalyn XL. Gano was the Redskins kicker for two full seasons and has been with the Panthers the past two seasons. You just don't see kickers on cards anymore, From what I can find, this card from 2011 is the most recent Redskins kicker on a card, and the first kicker to appear on a card by themselves since Eddie Murray in 1995.

NFL Zistle Trade

A football themed post for Super Bowl weekend featuring a trade with zistle.com user BengalsFan1. Going his way were all of my Bengals cards, around 50 of so, for some Redskins. Anthony Montgomery has very few cards so this auto checks him off the "One of every Redskin" wantlist. As much as I would love to forget the Rex Grossman era, I needed at least one for the PC, as well as getting my first Pierre Garcon cards. You don't see many cards of o-lineman so the Trent Williams rookie was nice and Chris Horton was a personal favorite who went from NFC Defensive Player of the Week and NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month as a rookie in 2008 to being out of the league in 2011. Finished off by some 2012 Prestige needs including a SP rookie and one baseball card with a 1989 Fleer Ron Hassey, the only player to catch two perfect games.

HTTR: 2012 Prestige Fake Series 2 Redskins Team Set

In honor of the Redskins winning the NFC East for the first time since 1999 (yes it seriously has been that long) here are a few customs I have been meaning to post featuring players that get little cardboard love but have had big parts of the playoff push.

Rob Jackson - Took over for an injured Brian Orakpo and played well with 4 interception and 4.5 sacks, his pick last night helped seal the win.

Trip to the LCS: 2012 Prestige Football

This weekend I made a very rare trip to the local card shop, and I use the term local loosely. The nearest card shop is about 150 km (about 100 miles) of Saskatchewan prairie away, so I get most things through mail order. I needed some card boxes for storage and to aid in an upcoming move so I stopped in while I was in the big city. Being a baseball collector in a hockey obsessed country is not easy, the Walmart only has base Topps blasters and hanger packs and the LCS had packs of 2012 Topps series 1 & 2 as well as a box of 2012 Bowman, both sets I am not collecting. I asked if they got any Gypsy Queen this year and the guy asked if it was even out yet. I can't blame the guy, he has to bring in what sells and baseball doesn't sell here. There was something that caught my eye and that was 2012 Prestige football. I try and stick to baseball just to stay in my budget, but I felt like a douche just buying supplies so I picked up 5 packs of Prestige just to feel out the product (as well as another purchase I am saving until tomorrow). I was blown away at how nice the design was and have covered it before on here with some custom baseball designs. Here is what I pulled.

RG3 Era Officially Begins

Well, we got him, Shanahan has his "franchise" quarterback to groom in an attempt to save his reputation and Danny Snyder has his big off season splash that will sell more jerseys. Topps and Panini took the opportunity to pimp their products showing off the NFL's newest stars in the making. I still love the Prestige design, and like the Topps design, I just wish the Burgundy and Gold on the bottom was switched with the gold on the bottom. I am actually surprised how little I find myself caring about this, this seems a lot like a team jumping on the Cam Newton bandwagon after one season and trying to find one of their own. I do hope Griffin leads the 'Skins back to glory, but we have been through this before. After going through Heath Shuler, Desmond Howard, Patrick Ramsey, Jason Campbell, Jeff George, Brandon Lloyd, Adam Archuleta, Albert Haynesworth and the countless other personnel mistakes I have a reason to be a little jaded.

Custom Prestige Baseball (This is NOT a Tebow Post)

Panini has been pimping it upcoming Prestige Football line by releasing photoshops of Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning in their new jerseys. While I could care less about Tim Tebow or the AFC in general, the thing that jumped out at me was how nice these cards looked. With Topps going into another year of baseball cards with no real competition these are the kind of sets that we are missing out on. Instead we get the "surfboard" base set, Heritage is fine but nothing new or exciting and another set of Allen & Ginter that looks just like the past 5 years of A&G. This design reminds more of something that Score would do and in my eyes it blows away anything Topps has done in recent memory. I spent a better part of the afternoon making a baseball template for this design, and upon completion, I would definitely chase a set of 2012 Prestige Baseball.
