TMV Spring Cleaning Loot

I am a couple weeks behind on things so I am just finally getting around to posting some stuff that has been paying around for a while. This time is some free cards from the Too Many Verlanders spring cleaning giveaway. I managed to scoop up the Rockies and Redskins and was very happy with the results. Starting off with the Rockies card that was visible on the pile, a Carlos Gonzalez 1972 style mini that I needed.

Jumping on the Card-Gen Bandwagon

Judging by the amount of blogger posts featuring cards from the Japanese Sega Card-Gen set, I'm not the only one who picked up a few off the bay a few weeks ago. I limited myself to 3, the most expensive being the Brad Hawpe from 2010, my first from 2010 and the second highest "Star Level" I have, behind the 2013 Todd Helton. Christian Friedrich become my lowest card with only one star, a young lefty who has battled injuries the last couple seasons, but someone I still have hope for. Casey Blake retired during spring training of 2012, never playing in a regular season game for the Rockies, the completionist in me needed this card as it's the only one that lists him with Colorado.

Snobby Trade

A quick trade post to catch up on, Paul over at The Baseball Card Snob was interested in a Granderson relic I had and I noticed he had a Brad Hawpe auto in his trade-bait. Trading a Yankee relic for an auto of one of my favorite players in Rockies history is pretty exciting for me. Hawpe's decline was pretty fast, always a streaky hitter, Hawpe lit it up in the first half of 2009, and might have been the All-Star game MVP if Carl Crawford had not robbed him of a go ahead home run in the 7th inning.

Acetate Appreciation: 2008 Stadium Club Beam Team

Here we have a 52 card insert set of acetate cards with sticker autographs and parallels in Black and White numbered to 99, Gold numbered to 50, Platinum numbered to 1 and 4 printing plates. The stained glass effect makes for a pretty interesting card and makes good use of the clear acetate material, but the parallels discard the multi-colors and really don't look as good. I am a pretty big fan of these and the scans really don't do the cards justice as they look really good when held up to the light. Another reason to miss Stadium Club.
