10 Card Sportlots Mailday

I like Sportlots, although it takes a lot for me to make an order, adding things until there is enough from one seller to justify placing an order. One card that was on my list for a while was this 2001 Topps Traded Roberto Kelly. Kelly played in 1,337 MLB games, but none of those with the Rockies making this a true "Zero year" card. He did play 63 games with the Rockies AAA team in Colorado Springs, but never made it to the majors in 2001. A two time All-Star and the guy that broke up Dave Stieb's perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th in 1989.

Just Commons, The Rest and Some Thoughts

After showing off the catchers portion of my first JustCommons order, here is the rest. The Weiss above is by far the best looking card so it gets top spot. The one card I really wanted was in my cart, but I was informed after my order was processed that it was out of stock. I was refunded the amount for this card, and a few others they didn't have, but if I wish I had known that before my order was finalized. I found the cart system the used to be really lacking, leading me order cards they didn't have in stock and ordering 2 of a couple cards that I only needed one of.

Cardboard Collections Trade

As with most trades this time of year, Gypsy Queen set needs are coming in, today from Cardboard Collections. Always nice to get Mike Trout out of the way, he usually seems short printed, but this year he is card #1, and this completed page 1 in the set binder.

Zistle Trade #23

A pretty large Zistle trade with around 30 cards coming my way. This is the third trade over at Zistle with Laurie V from LV's TTM blog. No surprise the trade centered around some 2014 Gypsy Queen short prints. These four put me needing 27 more, it always nice to check Mike Trout off the list along with a rookie of Billy Hamilton.

Zistle trade with Pittpanther88

More set help from a fellow Zistler, again I will not flood a post with base cards, but just taking time for a quick thanks. More 2014 Topps Flagship and another 1971 style from 2012 Archives. The 2012 Update Brian Bogusevic is seemingly pretty random, but after seeing it mentioned on a few blogs showing the at-the-wall catch and the lady with her dog in the stands, it was added to my wantlist and included in this swap. Thanks for the trade!

Set Help From Zistle

More activity on the trade front from Zistle.com. Not the usual Rockies and Randoms, but mostly set help. The lone Rockies card was a Joe Girardi from 1993 Flair, which was the first real attempt at a high-end set, before everything was autographs and patches. I remember the Hockey version of Flair coming in cardboard packs instead of the regular wax, pretty impressive for 1993.

A Waiting 'Til Next Year Trade

A really nice trade package from Waiting 'Til Next Year. I sent some early 1990's Donruss set needs his way, and in return received one of the best trade packages I have ever opened. I had no idea what to expect in return, but Tom obviously spend some time in my Zistle wantlist and unleashed a bubble mailer full of goodness. Trust me, I was much more exited than Mr. Hayes to the right. I feel kind of bad getting this for some crappy Donruss, so a return extra thank you package might be in order.

First Trade of 2014

The first trade of 2014, through the usual zistle.com. The main part being around a dozen 1971 style cards from 2012 Topps Archives. I completely ignored this set when it came out, but have slowly been chipping away at the '71's.

Zistle Trade #2

Another Zistle trade completed with a fellow blogger at LV's TTM autographs and Baseball Cards. In exchange for player collection needs I got to cross off some cards from the wantlist. First off some 2012 archives, I was not sold on this set even though I am a huge fan of the 1971 design. I think it losses something with the modern day players. Also some Rockies, comparing the Opening Day Pomeranz with the base card further instills my dislike of foil printed names on cards. A couple 2011 Gypsy Queens to cross off the list and a 1992 Pinnacle Damon Berryhill for the catchers collection.

Preview: 2012 Topps Archives

Topps announced another retro product to go with the 1963 themed Heritage set. Imagine my excitement seeing they are using the 1971 design as part of the set. The Pujols card to the right looks pretty awesome, other than the team name is not as stretched out as the 1971 originals. So far it looks to be a 200 card base set using 1954, 1971, 1980 and 1984 set designs. Pretty cool other than the the 1954 cards which we have already seen in the 2003 Heritage set. Also included is the return of the Fan Favorites autographs, which is cool as long as us Rockies fans get someone better than Charlie Hayes as an auto. Looks to be an interesting set and it will be interesting to see what all is included when it's released. My biggest wish would be a Drew Pomeranz 1971 style rookie card, we will see...
