10 Reasons to dislike the DH in Cardboard form

The 2020 baseball season was weird and short and weird. Among the weirdest was the universal DH. I miss pitchers batting. I miss double switches and I miss pinch hitters and I miss pitchers facing just one batter. In honor of the pitcher batting and hopes of seeing it again, here are my top 10 reasons to embrace the traditional 9 hole hitter.

10. Closers Batting
Above we have 1,201 career saves and 9 career hits. When was the last time you saw a guy with over 300 career saves sliding into a base? Very rarely does it happen, and very really do it go well, but it's still intresting.

9. Old School Pitchers Hitting
How great are these three cards with the flapless helmets.

8. Warm-up Jackets
These seem to have been out of fashion for a while, but how cool is a warm up jacket with your name and number on the back.

7. Hitting Dingers
Chicks dig the longball, from the classic Tim Hudson card, to German Marquez hitting a home run off a position player, to Jon Gray hitting one 467 ft.

6. Bartolo Colon
Speaking of dingers, Topps sure loved the legend of Bartolo Colon, and really who didn't?

5. Pre-Interleague A.L. Pitchers hitting
Mostly pre-season, although the wonderful weirdness of baseball with Roger Clemens getting his first career hit in his first career at bat in his 13th season in a game in which the Red Sox moved their DH to field, moving the pitcher into the line-up.

4. Pitchers hitting walk-off bombs
April 25th, 1986, Craig Lefferts enters a tie game in the 11th, gives up a run the top of the 12th, then hits a walk-off bomb in the bottom of the 12th, and yes, there is video of it, and it is glorious.

3. Jim Abbott
Born without a right hand Abbott still managed 2 career hits and 3 RBI. Also very weird is the amount of cards of him batting even though he never had a regular season plate appearance with the Yankees or Angels.

2. Pitchers Looking Ridiculous
Honestly, do you want cards of fat old guys that don't even own a glove, or stuff like this. You would miss horrible hitting pitchers, you know you would.

1. Pitcher Plays at the Plate
Maybe the most famous baseball card photo, Thurman Munson and A's pitcher Chuck Dobson along with an obsolute gem that might be a double rarity, a pitcher running, and a catcher collision at the plate.

There it is, maybe more on the way, but this should really be enough to convince any baseball fan.

1st COMC of 2018: Baseball

No "saving the best for last here", we are going to lead off with my favorite baseball card of the package, a Cooperstown "Dufex" card of Dale Murphy. The good old Foilly Dufex from 90's Pinnacle, this is a pretty sweet card now, I bet it was a big deal back in 1993. As far as the Cooperstown part, I feel Murphy is HoF worthy, more so than a lot of recent guys that have got in.

Check out my (Mosty) Shiny Rockies

My collecting goes in phases, sometimes with the season, sometimes it's not. Most of the time I don't realize it's happening, but when a COMC package come that has around 4 months worth of purchases, including stuff from the mailbox program, I tend to see a trend. The trend here seems to be shiny. See above, 1998 Flair Showcase, beautiful cards that actually scanned well. I love the looks of these and will have to pick up more

A Fool and His Money (will buy Topps Now Cards)

Something about Topps Now does not sit well with me. I love what I call "Moment in time" card, and these are exactly that. 1997 Upper Deck did a great job of this with little notes as to what game to picture is from. But something about Topps Now seems greasy, like Topps is has a license to print money (and fully capitalize on the Aaron Judge phenomenon) and is taking advantage of collectors. Case in point, this was a 5 card set for $20 or 4 bucks a card. This set was limited to 78 copies, so it is low numbered, but 4 bucks a card is more than I like to spend, but spend I did. (I also bought the postseason set so I am a total hypocrite). One of the big reasons was the The Rockies don't mess with their jerseys, and these focus on a pretty big change, even if its for one weekend (and they do look like pajamas)

TCBD Trade #9

I can't think of a clever title or opening sentence, so right down to business. TCDB, still not in love with it, but it keeps some trades coming in, like this one, that had a Green Jon Gray parallel. I still don't like 2017 Gypsy Queen (BRING BACK THE MINIS), but I will probably be adding some in trades.

A Catching up on 2016 Trade

A nice little zistle trade knocking off some 2016 Rockies needs, chipping away at the Archives team set, I have said it before, I am not really high in the 1953 design, we have seen it before through Heritage, but I do like the 1979 design. The Blackmon made the want-list for the beard close-up if nothing else.
