Apartment Update ...

I've been in my little apartment for a couple of months now and I forget that it's still early days.
Last night I had my housewarming and introduced my new place to new friends.
They all had really lovely things to say but I kept saying "it's no where near looking how I want it to be"
and their response was stop making apologies for it!
But you, my fellow interiors enthusiasts would understand what I'm saying correct?

It was a big step for me to open up my "unfinished" house at this point,
so I decided to go ahead and post some updated pics of My First Little {Perth} Place for you.

The Living Area ...

The Dining Area ...

It's a shame the big electrical box is on the wall in the dining room (who does that?)
but that's what you get with a rental!

The Bedroom ...

The bedroom, though I want to keep it serene and in the lighter colours I really want to
keep layering this room. Texture, warmth with a small pop of colour.
On the search for things for the wall .... I would love a Juju hat above the bed!

This is my cheapie chest of drawers that I will be swapping out very soon next to my favourite chair.
I'm looking for my inspiration for a cushion for the chair.

The Bathroom ...

Well how do you think it's coming along so far?
Would love to hear any feedback, opinions or advice you may have :)

My Living Room

Ok... so for those of you who follow my blog, you'll find that there is something unusual with the pics below. Remember when I first moved here I posted about my new apartment here. Well that place might look amazing and I know I said I loved it but in reality it was just wrong, for a number of reasons! So to cut a long story short, I moved out of there and finally found somewhere I am much happier. It's smaller which makes me feel more comfortable and doesn't have all the complex luxuries as the last one, but that doesn't bother me at all.

So here's the first sneak peek at my journey at decorating My First Little Rental Place!

Let's start with the living area.
Basically my apartment is a long rectangular shape so it's a little challenging to have the conventional living area layout. But that's ok, I think I've made the best of it.
To give you an idea, here's a really basic floorplan of the living area and furniture placement :

To the left of the floor plan is where it goes into the dining area and kitchen, which I'll post about a bit later. So you can see because of the width of the space and the placement of the TV plugs it was a challenge to place all my furniture.

Now with the move into one rental and out into another all within 4 months, I haven't bought anything new to dress it up with. It's all the pieces that I already have. With these basic snaps I've taken, I've matched it with some pieces I want to buy just to finish it off.

My 3 seater sofa just wouldn't fit anywhere else and I contemplated not even having it in this place but once I moved everything else in, there was plenty of room to put it on this wall... and I love it there. Being a really white space and white furniture I want to dress this up with colour! I know, hello did I say colour?? Yep and in addition to the yellow, I want to introduce pink and more grey! My mum, sister and friends would be extremely surprised at this choice as I usually hate have a dislike for pink... but I'm really feeling it at the moment - in small doses!! I'm going to paint a new canvas and the cushions, 1 and 2 I'm thinking about are from Table Tonic.

The TV bench which is never the prettiest spot in a living area, but I'm sorry I go against all interior designers - TV are a necessity and must be incorprated into the design.
So it's important to make it look as good as possible!
I just need to punch it up with some yellow accents.

2. Square Lacquer Tray yellow West Elm

This is what I've named the little TV nook!
For some bizarre reason, when these apartments where built they put the TV points on the long wall leaving this smaller wall (which would be perfect for a TV bench) for the place to put your sofa. I was so sure my two seater sofa wouldn't fit on this wall but once I got it in, voila it is a perfect fit.
I want to continue to build this as a really cosy nook to snuggle up and watch TV or blog! I want to bring in more texture and keep the colour to a minimum as the colourful sofa is just nearby.
You might also notice, to my disgust on the windows are vertical blinds, so not a fan!! They are cold and clinical but being a rental, I need to live with them. So that's also a contributing factor to make this side of the room really soft, textured and cosy.

2. Grey Ikat Cushion Table Tonic

So naturally, I would love to hear any feedback you might have!

My Bedroom

It's getting there, but I am super happy with my choice of quilt cover and of course my gorgeous cushion from the lovely Louise at Table Tonic. I wanted the room to be light and airy and I think I have achieved this.
The best thing about this quilt cover - I don't have to iron it yipee :)

Still a couple of things to work on (are we ever finished??) one being the lamps. You can see which ones I ended up getting and I will eventually cover the shades to a grey and white fabric of some sort. Also collecting some more bits and pieces to dress my side tables. I'm off to buy some flowers  for them today I think.

For now I am really happy and will be replicating this look in my new place even though I won't have my grey walls.
What do you think?

Bedroom HELP......

Ok all my friends and design savvy bloggers, I need lamps for my bedroom and whilst I have my thoughts about which one I am leaning towards I would love to know your thoughts, PLEASE!

Firstly here's a sneak peak into my bedroom is it's raw, unstyled manner. The lamp I have currently is an old Ikea lamp that performs it's literal purpose (light) and has no aethestic purpose.

I love my bed cover and pillows but they are as girly or "soft" as I want to go. And the butler's tables will stay as my side tables. The cushion I am getting for my bed is this one...

Table Tonic

Now for the lamps, what do you think and be honest..

2. Freedom

5. Decor Lighting

Well, what do you think?
If you have any other suggestions let me know or email me a pic.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback xx

Shower Curtains...

In Australia the design must have in your bathroom is frameless glass shower screens, in particular single-fixed partition. Sleek yes, easy to clean yes, I was/am going to do this... undecided!

You may remember my bathroom is on the small, actually tiny side is more accurate and I was thinking the glass just might be too restrictive.

And then I saw this and thought it was just so cute and would suit my little place.

Can't find anywhere is Australia {probably because they are very "un Australian"}, thank god both Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters ship here! I know they're not everyone's taste but you know what - I don't really care! That's what design is all about isn't it, have what you like...

Bedroom 2 / Home Office

Happy day today! I started on the design of my second bedroom/office. I refuse to let this room become a junk room and if I left it any longer, it would be!
This space will be for me to use as a little home office for my work (my day job that is!), my blogging, some design work and best of all a space my niece and nephew can come and have sleep overs in.

I got my new desk last weekend, it's a really simple in shape and style which is exactly what I wanted. And it was cheap - $149, that makes me happy :)

The view from the window above the desk is actually quite nice as it looks down over the complex, over the trees, you can see lots of beautiful sky and even a glimpse of the Q1! However I want a distraction from the ugly security screen (which I've decided not to change) so I am planning to put up white plantation shutters.

Now I can go buy all the pieces for the desktop as it definitely needs it! It's the best part though.

It's a work in progress and I look forward to doing more on it soon and posting the finished photo's sometime in the near future.
