Guest Post : Black Velvet Chair

Sarah, Thankyou so much for asking me to Guest post on your blog, “My first little place…” is one of the first blogs I “bookmarked” before I actually knew how to “Follow” someone. It is amazing to me that you find my blog interesting and of course I am honoured that you asked to write a post about my favourite chair….as chairs are my very favourite furniture item!

So my favourite chair, it is a Indian rams head chair, they sell them at Interiors Online for $1,050, however my chair was purchased from a retro furniture shop store in Redfern Sydney. Whilst walking with a colleague I caught a glimpse of a chair, it was sparkly silver and instantly commanded attention. I decided to go back a week later, to my disappointment the chair was no longer in the store…. I asked the husband and wife sales assistants
“You had a silver chair last week”
Husband “That chair sold on the weekend”
Wife “Is'nt there another one out the back?”

I am now the owner of an absolutely stunning Indian rams head chair that I purchased for the “steal” price of $250. I had the shop cover the chair cushion in a woven blue fabric, the cushion is removable so I have been changing it up and customizing the colour to suit my mood. At the moment I am loving the monochrome look of black and white stripe, I wonder what Ikat fabric would look like on the chair?

The chair sits at the bottom of the stairs and is used daily.

xxx Samie

Guest Post : Lona de Anna

Hello Everyone,

I'm was very flattered and honoured when Sarah asked me to guest post on her blog...and put this question to me.

What is my favourite design of Chair...and why?

This was a not so hard question to answer when I really sat down and thought about it...as being someone who embraces the old and new when it comes to furniture pieces and styles...I found it quite easy to narrow it down to just one particular style when it came to choosing my favourite design of chair.

I would most definitely have to say that my favourite design of chair would have to be the Wingback Chair.

To me this chair represents everything a chair should, style, comfort, detail, and diversity...they provided such a statement in any room...and no matter what style, colour or purpose of the room ...they fit right in..perfectly..and I would go as far as to say...they even "Make" the room.

I love that this particular design of chair has been given so many
different looks over the years considering the fact that it has been a furniture staple for families since they were introduced in the 18th Century, with their original intention being to keep the person sitting in them warm and comfortable by keeping out the drafts with their oversized arms and holding in heat with their tall backs and wing-like sides or to protect the delicate skin of gentrified ladies from the heat of a roaring fireplace."

Believe it or not earlier models were actually non-upholstered but later a modern version was created including overstuffed backs and lower arms that swing outwards for comfort...and now we cant seem to get enough of recreating yet another style or version of a wingback chair.

A few examples

French Style Wingback Chair

Louis Style Wingback Chair

Retro Style Wingback Chair

Modern Style Wingback Chair

Danish Style Wingback Chair

Tufted Traditional Style Wingback Chair

My personal and all time favourite version of a Wingback Chair would have to be the Tufted Leather Style Wingback Club Chair, in a gorgeous soft brown worn leather and finished with brass pressed studs...I don't own one of these gorgeous creatures just yet...and am still on the hunt for the perfect one!

Thank you so much Sarah for having me over, it was a fun little post to work on which now has me spending far too much time on Ebay searching for my dream Wingback Chair ; )

Warmest Regards, Anna x

Guest Post : The Zhush

Hi, I'm Sue from The Zhush! I love so many different styles of chairs that it's tough for me to choose just one...but since Sarah asked if I would, I decided to narrow it down to the one chair that eludes me:

The Eames lounge and ottoman!

I've always loved the classic good looks of the Eames lounge and ottoman, however despite owning an original Eames white rocking chair and a charming Eames wooden stool, I can't seem to find a place for this awesome chair and ottoman in my own home. For now I guess I will just have to love it from afar...and especially when its all decked out in cool Missoni fabric or simple and soft in white!

I hope you enjoyed my shout out to my favorite chair!

Guest Post : Flourish Design + Style

The lovely Sarah at Flourish Design + Style

******************************************************

Thanks so much Sarah for having me at My First Little Place!

When Sarah asked me what my favorite type of chair was, I immediately thought settee. A settee is on my most coveted list, I am holding out to find the right one at the right price for my round dining table. I think it would be such an indulgence to sit, feet curled under, sipping a tea or coffee with a favorite magazine, or visiting with friends after dinner.

( or coloring with my munchkins :)

I love having cozy spots throughout the house, and this would finish my dining space perfectly! xx

Guest Post : Bright.Bazaar

I'm starting a new little series of guest posts. The best ting about blogging is to share information and ideas so I've asked some very talented bloggers to share with us what is their favourite chair design.

*******************************************

Hello! I'm Will from
Bright.Bazaar and it's a pleasure to be sharing my favourite chair design with you today.

My favourite chair studio is called James UK, which features a range of different styles and designs, from armchairs to sofas. When I celebrated my 21st birthday I was lucky enough to be given this rocker chair as a present and ever since then I've been a huge fan of James Harrison's work. The rocker chair is special to me because it's been a key piece of furniture through the various apartments I've lived in since graduating; it's timeless style and smooth lines are always welcoming. At the moment it's in the corner of my bedroom and I've dressed it up with a cashmere throw, which has made the a great spot for a cosy read of my favourite magazines.

Of James' current range, I'm drawn to the Alywn Compact Sofa because it's super stylish and sophisticated but at the same time the pop of colour in the buttons adds a splash of fun to the design. Plus, as I tend to live in small apartments it's pretty practical, too.

Be sure to check out all the designs in the James UK collection; it won't disappoint!

Thanks for having me over, Sarah.
