Let's Flamingle

Mornin', y'all.  How's your Thursday going?  Ryan is already up and taking all the books off the bookshelf, but I'm going to allow it until I finish writing this blog post as long as he doesn't destroy anything.

Here is today's card:

I was at Wal-Mart the other day and saw a plastic cup with this written on it, which I thought was funny but now I wonder if this card sounds like a proposition? o.0  I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I'm counting the leaves as the smaller rectangle layer on the sketch; I wanted more of the Melon Mambo stripes to show.

Here is this week's theme challenge from the Paper Players:

I think my card counts as clean, but simple might be a bit of a stretch since it does have multiple layers.  Nevertheless I was thinking of this challenge when I made it, and I discovered I have not a single solitary bird stamp that's in the current SU! catalog.  My flamingo retired at the end of may.

Finally, here is this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Petal Pink, which despite its name seems more peachy to me, Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo, and Old Olive for my colors.

Okay, time to go rescue the books and feed Ryan his breakfast.  Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pop of Paradise (retired), Labeler Alphabet, Touches of Texture
Ink:  Petal Pink, Melon Mambo, Old Olive, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper:  Petal Pink, Basic Black, Thick Whisper White, Melon Mambo DSP (retired)
Accessories:  Dimensionals

Retiring: Pop of Paradise

Howdy, y'all.  How's it going today?  I'm getting really tired this week because one of the dogs keeps waking me up around 5:00 in the morning every day.  Not really funny anymore.

So I made a super fancy flamingo to cheer myself up.

Pop of Paradise is another stamp set on the retiring list, so I had to give the flamingo another chance to shine.  And he does shine today--I covered him in Wink of Stella after I stamped :)

Here is this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I went back and forth about what colors to use for my layers.  I started out with an Old Olive layer for the leaves, but that seemed too dark, so I stamped them on white and then sponged on Old Olive.  Then I tried it on a Crumb Cake card base but that also seemed too dark, but it just didn't pop enough on Whisper White until I added that tiny little border of Calypso Coral.  Then I added some itty bitty sequins to the sentiment and voila!  It works.

Take a look at this week's Color Throwdown:

These looked like great flamingo colors to me--Calypso Coral, Old Olive, and Crumb Cake.

Kiddo just fell asleep so I'm off to my craft room!  Cheers, y'all!

Ink:  Calypso Coral, Old Olive, Crumb Cake

Happy Bird-Day!

Happy Friday, y'all!  My little monster is on his playmat on the floor next to me (and hence NOT "helping" me type!) making monster noises while chomping on a giraffe toy.  I love my little weirdo.

Card time!

My friend Missy's birthday was yesterday (HI MISSY!!!!) and for some reason I kept thinking it was much later in the month, maybe I was mixing her up with my "niece" Emma?  I don't know.  I plead mommy brain.  But I made this for her and I've got a li'l something to go with it next time I see Missy.  It's a 5" square card because of this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And I also used this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo (because DUH flamingo!), and Cucumber Crush.  You might be looking at my card and thinking where's the second pink shade?  If you look at the flamingo, she's actually two colors.  I inked up the stamp with Flirty Flamingo, and then used a sponge dauber to add darker Melon Mambo ink on her legs and head.  Promise I used two pinks.

Hope you have a lovely Friday.  I'm going to play with my monster baby until I can convince him that naps are goooooood.  Cheers, y'all!

Think Pink

Hey kids!  I was *determined* to get a card made for today and here it is 6:30 but I made it.  And it's PINK!

We met up with some friends of ours on New Year's Eve who now live in Hawaii, and they gave us some cute baby clothes so this is the card I made to send to them.  Ashlea loves her some hot pink and bling, so this is not the first flamingo she's gotten from me :)

I used the first new Freshly Made Sketch of the year:

I didn't do my stripes on the left *exactly* like on the sketch but I think it's not too far out of line.  Don't call the challenge police on me.

The Color Throwdown has the perfect combination for a flamingo card this week:

I used Basic Black, Melon Mambo, and Old Olive for my colors.

And now the hubs is making me dinner, I'm a lucky girl.  Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pop of Paradise, No Bones About It, Rose Wonder
Ink:  Melon Mambo, Old Olive, Basic Black

2016 Showcase, Part 2

Time for Part 2 of my favorite projects from 2016.  Let's dive right in, shall we?

Love this bright and cheery card for May.

June's pick is this Millennium Falcon card, might not be the prettiest thing ever but I'm rather proud of it given that I don't do much punch art.  And I watched The Empire Strikes Back last night in honor of Carrie Fisher.

For July I chose this flamingo card, love the bright colors and I need to break out that stamp set again soon.

And the last card for today is August's jellyfish.  I admit the main image is a little indistinct with the clear EP, but I loved the idea of it and how the "sand" on the background turned out.

Part 3 coming tomorrow!

Okay, That's Better

After yesterday's misfire, I decided to go back to the flamingo since I'd made a card with it that I liked lately and I thought maybe it would be good luck.  So here's what I have today:

I do like it a heck of a lot better than yesterday's mess.  Here's the latest from Freshly Made Sketches:

I used the Layering Circles Framelits to cut a circle out of some scratch paper, and then used the negative as a mask for my card.  I really thought about adding some stripey Melon Mambo DSP to the card, but in the end I decided to stick to the sketch and I added some of those Metallic Enamel Shapes.  They're not exactly where I wanted them, but those little boogers are sticky.

Just had to play along at What Will You Stamp? again:

I wasn't going to buy that stamp set at first, but I'm glad that I got it on a whim because I have had fun playing with it (except for yesterday).  Well, I'm off to go work on the next scrapbook layout and spend some time in the basement with little Vader man.  Cheers!

Stamps:  Pop of Paradise, Sunshine Sayings
Ink:  Daffodil Delight, Melon Mambo
Paper:  Daffodil Delight, Basic Black, Whisper White

Meh.

I have just not been having a happy time in the ol' craft cave lately.  I feel like I'm in a rut and aside from the flamingo card I made a little while back, I haven't much liked anything I've made.  And the disappointment continues today.

It's just...meh.  For once though you can actually sorta see the sparkle on the Shimmery White cardstock I used for the watercolor wash panel.  I used this week's color combo from Cupcake Inspirations:

There's no good SU! analog to the magenta, so I ended up using both Rich Razzleberry (for the watercolor wash) and Sweet Sugarplum (for the patterned paper).  The other two colors were easier--Night of Navy and Pumpkin Pie.

And here's this week's Global Design Project sketch:

And the folks at What Will You Stamp? cycled back to a stamp set I have:

Maybe I shoulda used the flamingo and then I'd like today's card better.  Well, I'm going to keep wrestling with my mojo until I make something I actually do like.  Cheers, y'all.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pop of Paradise
Ink:  Night of Navy, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry

Watercolor Pineapple

Hey, y'all.  I'm spending lots of time in the basement to hang out with my injured little boy dog, and that's also where my craft room is so you'd think I was making lots of progress on stampy projects and you'd be wrong.  The last set of scrapbook pages I worked on was from the Harry Potter studio tour, which prompted me to start an HP re-read, and that seems to be sucking up a lot of my time :)  I'm on Goblet of Fire now, Harry just finished the second task in the Triwizard Tournament.  But I managed to tear myself away long enough to make a card.

I just had to make something pineappley for the tropical challenge at Cupcake Inspirations:

And I thought maybe the color combination at the Color Throwdown would work:

I used Pear Pizzazz, Peekaboo Peach, Sweet Sugarplum, and Pool Party.  Last of all I thought I'd play along with the sketch at As You See It:

For my background panel, I scribbled on my largest acrylic block with markers, misted heavily, and stamped it on Shimmery White cardstock.  The Sweet Sugarplum was still lots darker than the Pool Party, so I used an AquaPainter to add in more blue.  I kinda wonder if my card still needs a little something extra but I don't know what.

Anyway, I'm going to head back to the basement.  Maybe this time I'll work at my craft table instead of reading...oh J.K Rowling, your books still suck me in even though I've read them all several times over.  It's still quite the tale!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pop of Paradise, Love & Affection
Ink:  Pool Party, Sweet Sugarplum, Peekaboo Peach, Pear Pizzazz
Paper:  Pool Party, Peekaboo Peach, Shimmery White

Surprise Sweetie!

Guess what guess what GUESS WHAT!!!

I'm a Surprise Sweetie at Cupcake Inspirations!  They kindly invited me to play along with this week's challenge:

a.) Those cupcakes look ridiculously yummy.
b.) I wouldn't say no to eating the pineapple, too.
c.) I think I need to make another card with a pineapple on it, but for now here's what I made:

I kinda seriously love this card and I know exactly who's going to get it.  My friend Ashlea lives in Hawaii (hello tropical!), and she loves hot pink and bold black & white prints.  I don't know how she feels about flamingos but I'mma find out.  I just got the Pop of Paradise stamp set last week so I was very excited to ink it up...and there's a pineapple in the set, so I think I may just have to play along with this challenge a second time.

And you can play along too!  Go check it out at Cupcake Inspirations.  Cheers!
