Hello and welcome to The Compost Bin. I'm Compostwoman and I live with my family in rural Herefordshire. We have nearly four acres of garden and woodland, all managed organically and to Permaculture principles, which we share with Chickens, Cats and assorted wildlife. We also grow a lot of our own food, run courses in all sorts of things and make a lot of compost!

I am a Master Composter and have spent more than a decade as a volunteer Community Compost adviser with Garden Organic and my local Council.
I'm a self employed Environmental Educator so I run workshops and events where I talk about compost, veg growing, chicken keeping, cooking, preserving and sustainable living. I also run crafts workshops and Forest School/outdoor play sessions in our wood.

We try to live a more self sufficient lifestyle here, as best we can, while still having a comfortable life and lots of fun.

I have been feeling pretty low and sad and this cheered me up enormously :)

Loss of followers.

I know I have not been posting as much recently as in previous years and for that I am sorry. I have been unwell since before Christmas and have also been dealing with some stuff in RL which I am not discussing here.

So I wasn't entirely surprised to notice that I have lost around 40 followers since some time in January. I felt a bit sad, but mentally shrugged and decided if I don't post why would people want to follow me?

However, having spent a happy few hours catching up with blogs today, I noticed a post on Meanqueen's blog which may explain the loss of followers!
Blogger has made some big changes to how people can follow blogs!
I remember seeing a notification when looking at my Google account but it didn't seem to apply to me so I ignored it. However, it apparently does...Google say 
We announced the retirement of Google Friend Connect for all non-Blogger sites. We made an exception for Blogger to give readers an easy way to follow blogs using a variety of accounts. Yet over time, we’ve seen that most people sign into Friend Connect with a Google Account. So, in an effort to streamline, in the next few weeks we’ll be making some changes that will eventually require readers to have a Google Account to sign into Friend Connect and follow blogs.
As part of the plan starting the week of Jan.11th, 2016 we’ll remove the ability for people with Twitter, Yahoo, Orkut or other OpenId providers to sign in to Google Friend Connect and follow blogs. At the same time, we’ll remove non-Google Account profiles so you may see a decrease in your blog follower count.We encourage you to tell affected readers (perhaps via a blog post), that if they use a non-Google account to follow your blog, they need to sign up for a Google Account, and re-follow your blog. With a Google Account, they’ll get blogs added to their Reading List, making it easier for them to see the latest posts and activity of the blogs they follow.

So, if you want to follow me ( again?) you need to sign up for a Google account :(. I think it stinks and is just a way for Google to increase their numbers but that is the choice. Or, you could follow me using Bloglovin, instead ;)
