Making It With Allie - Royal Fun

Welcome to another Making It With Allie!
I am glad to have you!

I am sure that all of you have seen all of the hype about the upcoming nuptials of
Prince William of Wales and Catherine Middleton

Can you believe that Lady Diana's son is getting married almost exactly
30 years from the day of his parents wedding?
Do you all remember watching that wedding early in the morning?
Well, we are excited to watch on Friday!

AuBrynne is super excited to see the NEW Princess!
Last night she wanted to make a Princess Crown to wear for the wedding.

I can't pass up an opportunity to get the Silhouette out,
so I very quickly made a crown and cut it out!
AuBrynne thought for only a moment about what color it needed to be...

Then we cut the pieces out with the Silhouette and glued it all together

Then she added the jewels for a final touch!

Then, I was playing around a little bit....
I had some extra fabric from AuBrynne's Easter dress and some woolly nylon and floral wire,
that could go into my serger.
Please don't try this if you are not SUPER adept with your serger,
and if you do please wear safety glasses as a precaution!
Anyways, the effect was pretty cool!
It was bendable but also held it's shape!
Have you figured out yet what I was able to make??
A Fascinator! In the big British Fancy Style!
For my own little Princess!

And of course her favorite Royalty shirt I threw together for her a while back...
So, we are on pins and needles to see the wedding!

Some of you may know that it has been REALLY hard for me to get around to visit every ones links each week
and then chose some highlights.
In order to leave everyone a nice comment, it ends up taking A TON of time!
I will be moving the Features day, but have not decided on a day yet.
You see, it takes WAY more time than I had EVER anticipated and
is leaving VERY little time to be able to do any crafts to share with you all!
So, I am going to ask you all, Should I:
1: Not have Features
2: Have only one feature based on votes
3: Feature only those who leave comments...
4: Something else that you all suggest

Now it's your turn!
It's time for the
Making It With Allie Party!
What have you got this week?
I am anxious to see!

March Door

Hello Friends!
I am SO glad to be back in time share a few of our St. Patrick's Day Decorations!

Our Front door got a much needed infusion of Green and Orange!
I am super pleased with how it turned out, even if I don't regularly decorate with these colors.
I make a HUGE exception this time of year!

I was inspired by Paisley Passions door decor

I love the wreath within a frame idea!
In fact I have that same frame she used.
But I wanted to go in a little bit different direction.

I went to Hobby Lobby and in the clearance isle I found a little gem!
Sorry, I didn't take photos of it before I crafted it all together.
But I am sure it was in the clearance area because it was inadvertently distressed after its staining.
But this worked REALLY well for what I wanted.

So, I took some foam core board and cut out a circle ring and added my flowers on about a third of the ring
Then I wrapped lots of different green and orange ribbons around the rest of it.
Then I hung it inside the frame.

Here is the final product!

And one inside, without the glare...

So, here is the question I ask you all:

Does this frame need to be white-washed  and distressed?
Or Maybe sheer white added?
Antique white or cream?
What would you do?

Lucky-Bits

Do you every start out the day and want to get back in bed?
Winter time in Chicago: if you look out the window in the morning, it is likely to be gray sky.
And you will want to crawl back into bed.
People get cranky and you can run into some unhappy souls in a day...
Sometimes, it can even make you feel a little bit Un-lucky.

So, it helps to have a little luck with you when you are out and about.
Some people carry lucky pennys...
I can never keep track of those -I end up spending them.

I decided to make a little bit of luck to set by the front door!

If you don't have some when you are leaving, you can grab one on your way out.

And how do I know they are lucky?
AuBrynne not only helped me make them,
She kissed each and every little bit!
How could her little Irish Kisses not be lucky?!

Tomorrow, I will show you how I made these little bits!

Valentines for School

Valentine's Day 2011 is in the books.
AuBrynne was more than happy to help me make her Valentines to share with her class-mates.

We made Heart Shaped Brownie Covered Oreos.
Fortunately for the family, we made them a few times to "perfect our technique".

I don't know where this recipe originated, but in the recipe I ran into,
it says to: dip your oreos into brownie batter then bake in muffin tins...

This does work perfectly for round muffin tins.
I did have to cut a TINY triangle out of each oreo
Make sure you have the sharpest knife you can find...

Anyways, I used baking release on the pan and got out my small cookie scoop.

I scooped one scoop of brownie batter into each cavity (left pan)
Then added an oreo to each pan and pushed it nearly to the bottom (right pan)

Then one more scoop of brownie batter over each oreo:

Now, because I was doing this slowly and taking pictures...
The oreos floated themselves upwards.
If you do this at normal speed, and get them into the oven, this doesn't happen.

Bake them in a 350 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
DO NOT OVER-BAKE. This is easy to do. Yes, I did this.

When you take these out of the oven, be sure to slip a knife or other implement around the edges,
or they won't come out. Yes, I did this too.

Anyways, this is what you will have once you let them cool and figure out how to get these out of the pan:
Actually, the left one is what they look like if you let them float up...
Yes, another "test" batch for the family...

Ok. These are PHENOMENAL on their own, just plain.
But they could be decorated...
and that is just what we did!

We got out the pink candy-melts and dipped the tops.
Then dipped half in red/pink/white sprinkles.

Then we proceeded to make the labels and package them up!
I made the fold over label in Photo-Shop.
And printed them on card-stock.

AuBrynne stamped some extra pizazz onto them...
And her seal of approval :)

Here is the whole lot of them:

I think they are REALLY sweet.
But I am very happy this project is finished.
The smell of Brownies are TOO tempting!

Tomorrow, I will share AuBrynne's Valentine Refashion!

L-O-V-E Notes Board

Together, AuBrynne and I made a L-O-V-E Notes Board for her class room!
We want to help promote an atmosphere of acceptance in the classroom.

We got an old frame and painted it Pink.
Then we spray painted some chicken wire white and fitted it into the frame.
AuBrynne modge-podged one inch squares of lots of scrapbook papers onto cardboard letters.
After they dried, I cleaned them up with a file.
Then, we dressed our letters with bows, floral wire, gems and heart stickers.
I attached each letter to the chicken wire with floral wire.
AuBrynne modge-podged some glitter paper onto a piece of foam core board to fit into the frame.

Then we decoupaged some small clips with papers and added some plastic gems to others:

Then we put each students name onto a piece of decorative paper.

I really like this Love Notes Board!
Every time to teacher spots the kids doing something nice for each other,
she can help the child place their name on the board.
Because I wanted to keep the anonymoty of the children in the class,
I didn't take pictures of it all in the class room, in action.
But I did put a little Valentine on it before we took it over to her class.

Anyways, I hope it helps the kids be nice to each other...

Oh! We love Valentine's around here!
It's been a great opportunity to help AuBrynne learn about loving  EVERYONE...
She has been asking for some Valentine's outfits.
So, I thought I would add this as my submission to the
Making It With Allie Party!

This one is a hybrid of sorts.
I had this shirt in my closet that I Rarely wore...
I don't wear reds...
Here it is:

So, I chopped it up and then made some pants with some tiered ruffly knit.

AuBrynne calls it her

And you should see her when she is in it!
