Video Killed The Radio Star

You might be a craft addict if:
Your hot glue gun is generally on, just in case you might need it. Right. Now...

So, last night we were having some fun family time -still dressing the last tree...
When little AuBrynne decided to sing along to the songs playing.
She grabbed the dog's brush and started to use it for a microphone.

Well, it dawned on me that she could have a much cuter one -REALLY fast!
I had just finished a roll of 6" tulle, so I pulled the ends off of it and hot glued some ribbon on.
Then took one of the unbreakable christmas ornaments and hot glued it in one end -hook side in.
And that was it!
It literally took 90 seconds! IF!
And it made her WAY happy!

Re-purposing -Make It and Love It Style

Have you all been over to Miss Ashley's blog?
It's called Make It and Love It.
And it is FABULOUS!
Ashley has great ideas and good tutorials!
Whether you are an expert sewer or a novice, you will enjoy her site.

Last week, Ashley did a great tutorial for this wonderful fall dress.

Well, I have had this t-shirt (that I love) that was silly-short on my tall, nearly 6 foot body...
And I had a light-bulb moment...
AuBrynne doesn't have to get the shirt refashioned for her.
You could do this for yourself!
It would be cute. AND coordinate with her little gray dress you just made...

So, this is the Gray, very high necked, crew t-shirt.
Side note: Tall, large-framed, curvy girls generally should try and steer clear of the crew neck line.
It makes for a good amount of real estate... Not the most flattering...
Anyways, the shirt:

Ok.  So, I whipped up the dress as Miss Ashley described, with a few alterations.
And given that I am SIGNIFICANTLY curvy, and I am fairly certain, Miss Ashley is not,
there were a few adjustments I needed to make.

Before I could start, I had to take the neck-line out and make it bigger.
More of a scoop.
Then, the belt area needed to be secured, because it kept riding up.

Second, the belt in the back didn't work as well because I used a remnant of another piece of fabric and didn't have enough to make a tube... It didn't work as well.

So, I took it apart and re-worked things and came up with this.
It works a bit better for my curvy-er shape, as the waist-line is a bit more pulled in and defined.
And it stays put.

Anyways, I am loving this dress! It's pretty comfy. And just funky enough for me...

15 Seconds. Really. I Promise.

This weekend has been super busy.  I feel like I haven't gotten a moment to sit still.  Literally.
But I found a quick 15 seconds for a quick Princess dress.
Seriously, it was literally 15 seconds.
I had found this Disney Princess pre-shirred fabric.
Being pre-shirred, it meant that I only needed , like, 12 inches of it.
And the even better part about this fabric -it was already hemmed.
So, it literally meant that I only had to line it up (2 seconds) and a simple stitch up the back seam.
And that, my dears, took all of 13 seconds.
For play clothes, you can't go wrong with that.  And Miss AuBrynne LOVES it.
Its the go-to dress up play piece.

Calling In Sick

The resident model in our house, AuBrynne, called in sick today.
But anybody who has a three year old knows, that when they call in sick, generally,
you get to stay up with them at night...
That was my last night.  The Bug was REALLY snorgly last night.  I swear, it comes on SO fast! And they are restless because they can't breath.  And they dig their toes right between your ribs when you try to get a wink or two of sleep... Oh, I can't wait till she feels better enough to sleep in her own bed...
But you think a little lack of sleep would stop me? Nah, just slow the start of the morning up a bit.

Well, I watched Project Runway last night; as I am sure most of you all did.  I am not going to go into who went home or who should have... But, I had one of those moments of: DUH!  One of the designers used a technique we have all used on many occasions around here: Twist and Steam.  And it dawned on me! That remnant of fabric you have been going: Meh... I got nothing for inspiration on this one...
Well, I decided while The Bug is napping to throw this one together fast.

Please forgive me for the dress form pictures -I'm not gonna wake that baby to take pictures.
But I will make a coordinating top at show it to you all later.

So, more to come soon!

How Do You Keep a Three Year Old Out of Trouble?

Question: How do you keep a three year old out of trouble?
Answer: Duct-Tape

Ha. Ha. I know. If only. But seriously. I had to get the duct tape out the other day.  Then it occurred to me, that I really need to get a little AuBrynne Dress form made so that I could have it for when she was asleep or refused to try a dress on.

Here is the final result.:

As I was going along, my mother took some photos so that I could share with you all!

First, you want to get the plastic food wrap out and start wrapping your little one in several layers.

As, you can see, my model started to bend over mid-way.  The fix in this case would have been to move the project off the craft table and on to the floor, so she wasn't in that "brace yourself" stance. But I didn't, so it was a more bent over form.  Which was OK, in the end.

Then you want to start applying the shortish strips of duct tape.  The length of the strips will depend on the size of your model.  I used mostly 8 to 10 inch strips. I started in the front and then moved to the back.

Then, you're going to want to mark some reference lines.  Waist, hips, neckline, shoulders etc.

Then, CAREFULLY cut off the layers.  I basically made sure my fingers were under the blade of my scissors, so I would not cut any precious skin.

You will then have this nice shell.  I cut out a couple of card-board pieces to stabilize it so it wouldn't collapse.  Then I stuffed her with crumpled up newspaper.

I then cut ovals of cardboard and put them in the arm sockets.

I added a hanger and sealed her up with some more duct tape.

And this is what it is finished!

Now, go try it with your little ones.
It will occupy some time and they will giggle the entire time!
 It's very fun!
 I promise!

Play Earrings

AuBrynne has been asking for earrings for days.
Now, every time I have thought about it, I cringe.
Poking holes in my baby's ears?! Come on, really? Who put this idea into your head, little one?
Now, I have had my ears pierced since I was a toddler in preschool, and I can't see how my parents dealt with it.  I can remember being on the playground and losing an earring and have the teachers help me find the tiny gold teddy bear earring. Back in the dark ages, they didn't have the "safety-back" earrings.
Well, I just can't do the whole permanent holes thing.
So, I went to Hobby Lobby and got these little clip on earrings:

They had these little sticky pads already on them, so I stuck some flat back plastic rhinestones on:

She likes them!  And I am telling you, they are magical!  When she has them on she acts like a little lady!  She will ride in the cart at the grocery store without hassle.  She doesn't even whine with these little gems on!  So, I think I will be letting her wear these whenever we go out!
