Mom, It has to go all the way down...

So, I threw on a maxi dress yesterday.
Maxi dresses are a my summer staple in my wardrobe.
Anyway, when Miss AuBrynne took a look at me, she exclaimed:
Oh, Mom! That is how I want my dress! It is SO beautiful! Can you make me one?
I have been trying to get her to agree to something red, white and blue for ages.
So I was quite surprised when she pulled these two fabrics from the stash!
So, before she could change her mind, I threw this little cutie together.
It went SUPER fast!
As I was making the skirt part, I tried to reason with her about the length -I was concerned with tripping.
But she would have NONE of it. She kept saying:
Mom, It has to go all the way down.

And before I finished, she insisted I add some bling.
So out came the hotfix!

I love catching these "model" poses!

IT Art

My Aunt Shelley asked me to make her some art for her new office.
The new place is very modern in tones of gray.
Sounds bright and cheery, eh? Right.
So, she asked me to come up with something within these parameters:
(I love these kind of exercises)
Grays - think Kleenex Box
4 pcs. Green
UP To 4 pcs. Black
1 pc. Yellow
1 pc. Red

And she gave me a canvas to put it on.

So you ask, where is the color scheme coming from?
Well, my Aunt Shelley is a Systems Analyst.
Yea, I am not sure (as I am not one) what she does, but she does it REALLY well.
Anyways, the programs she has to use is in 4 colors:
Black (background) Green (Most of the words)Red and Yellow (Sparingly)
And then the Grays of the office.

So, this is what I came up with:

So, she popped her art up in her office and her co-workers very much appreciated the IT-themed art!
Now she's working on a little floral arrangement to go with it.
I will show it to you all when it's finished!

Making It With Allie - Waiting for The Doctor

Greeting friends!
The weather here has been delightful!
We are on day two of record-breaking warm weather and I LOVE it!
Hope you all have been able to enjoy some nice weather where you are.

Today I am SO excited to share with you this little number my little girl asked me to make for her!
Before I get to showing it, I must share with you a little back-story...

When I was growing up, my father watched this British show called Doctor Who.
This show has been on since 1963!
It is a science-fiction "drama-die" (for lack of a better word) where The Doctor takes an engenue companion on galactic adventures and usually, he ends up saving the world....
Well, over the years, I watched it too.
And when BBC America began airing the newest series of them, I of course watched them too!
Well, the newest series began a few weeks ago and I was speechless when
Lil'A was maybe more excited than I to watch the premier!
It turns out that she LOVES this show!
She LOVES The Doctor!  Especially this latest Doctor...
She asks to watch Doctor Who On-demand as often as she asks for Max & Ruby.
And I am thrilled!

Now, The Doctor travels in this Police Box turned TARDIS.

I can hear you asking: A wha? Just what is a Tar-dis?
Well, let me begin by saying, it sounds better if you put on your best British Accent and say it...
But TARDIS stands for:
Time And Relative Dimension In Space

This means, in a really simplistic way:
It can travel through to any point in time and space.
It is larger on the inside than the outside.
And can blend in to its surroundings.
Basically, for The Doctor, it is his Deluxe-Motor-Home-In-The-Sky
The Tardis has a signature sound that has been featured in the series over the years, which in an episode of late,
River Song explains that the sound is made because The Doctor doesn't take off the brakes upon landing and take off.

So, AuBrynne says to me, "Can you make me a dress with The Doctor's machine on it?"
Being the ambitious sort, I said, "Absolutely!"

And I started out making a template with the Silhouette Studio.
Lots of tiny 4.5mm circles....
Enough for the little Tardis-Blue nail-heads to fall into...
More than 650!
This probably would have been easier with the Rhinestone Template Kit,
but I wasn't willing to wait for the post to do that...
And, nail-heads are not weighted as rhinestones are and it made the whole process pretty tedious.
But the results are FANTASTIC!!!

You want to see what I came up with?

I like this dress SO much, I want to make a "Mommie version"...
What do you think?

Now, before you go saying:
This girl has gone way too geek for me,
check out this  AMAZING Tardis, over at Mateo and Me!

You know there is a certain little 4 year old girl who is asking for one of these in her size...

Lucky-Bits

Do you every start out the day and want to get back in bed?
Winter time in Chicago: if you look out the window in the morning, it is likely to be gray sky.
And you will want to crawl back into bed.
People get cranky and you can run into some unhappy souls in a day...
Sometimes, it can even make you feel a little bit Un-lucky.

So, it helps to have a little luck with you when you are out and about.
Some people carry lucky pennys...
I can never keep track of those -I end up spending them.

I decided to make a little bit of luck to set by the front door!

If you don't have some when you are leaving, you can grab one on your way out.

And how do I know they are lucky?
AuBrynne not only helped me make them,
She kissed each and every little bit!
How could her little Irish Kisses not be lucky?!

Tomorrow, I will show you how I made these little bits!

Valentines Welcome Here

Given that I haven't gotten a Valentine in ages,
I thought I should solicit for some...
I know, I know, Ha Ha!
Well, a girl can try right?

I found the frame at Michael's for 90% off! That's $1.79!
Then a styrofoam heart at 50% off. That's $1.15!
A sheet of glitter paper at 50% off for 60 cents!
A 4 inch scrap piece of lace (yes, I keep it all...)
And then the ribbons were all 50% off and 5 inches of each at a whopping 88 cents!
This great door decor cost me less than a gallon of gas here in Chicago-land!

Making It With Allie - Jessie

Christmas was lovely for us!
We went to Daytona Beach, Florida to visit with family.
And we were able to make it home without too much hassle...
The kids played and had a ball!
I have to say, I think a nice comfortable 65 degrees is rather enjoyable for Christmas dinner!
At one point, I even took my dinner plate onto the outside porch!

AuBrynne opened all of her gifts from Santa and was very pleased.
I made her something she had been asking for, for months!
“A Jessie Dress”
Now, Jessie from Toy Story does not wear a dress, but I knew what she meant…

So, I made her a Jessie shirt, with Yellow fabric and Red ric-rac and Red Embroidery.
Then, I fashioned some chaps to go over her jeans.
We found the perfect belt and Goodwill.
I was VERY lucky to have found the PERFECT cowgirl boots at Target on clearance!
And last but not least, I found a red, flocked foam cowgirl hat at Dollar Tree!
All I had to do was use a paper punch around the edge, then threaded some white grosgrain ribbon through!
A yellow bow for her Jessie styled braid completes the whole ensemble!

I think it turned out adorable!
And it was just exactly what she wanted, so she was EXCTATIC!

Well, It is Thursday and that means it
 Making It With Allie!

I am super excited to see all of your fun blogs!
And to finally maybe get our daily life back in to normal mode and get back to regular crafting!
I am excited to have you all inspiring myself and others!

So, what have you got?!
