OH HAI TWITTR, U SPEEK LOLCATZ NAO?

Are you bored with Twitter in your own language? You can change your Twitter settings to LOLCATZ.

"Twitter quietly added a new (and still experimental language option...one for the Cheezburger cognoscenti.  Under Settings > Language, just between Korean and Malay, you'll find this curious designation: Lolcat - LOLCATZ (beta)."   Read more about it here.

If you want to get crazy with the LOLCATZ language, there is a translator at: http://speaklolcat.com/

Make your Twitter page POP!

Twitter has launched a new design feature for your Twitter page.  Using the menu, you can add a picture header to your page and create more interest in your twitter feed.  While you can upload any pitcure to your Twitter header, some of the designs actually incorporate your profile picture and header into one seamless picture...with varying results.  Some are cool, others are serene and still others are just funny.

Check out 10 great examples of the new Twitter header/avatar combo.  Ryan Seacrest is number three on the list:

Quick video instructions on creating the Twitter header above and a template for editing your pictures to the perfect size and shape are available here: ttp://on.mash.to/R11xl4

Twitter and Lawyers

Social media tools have become increasingly popular in the past few years. Twitter has mainly become a favorite for many and has gained some importance in the legal field as well. Many issues and concerns have been raised in the past year on the use of Twitter by lawyers and the courts. As such, the Legal Skills Prof Blog has created a Twitter reading list for lawyers. This handy list compiles many articles helpful for attorneys using or thinking about using Twitter in their practice and the possible issues that can arise in this area. The list also provides useful Twitter resources and tools. Click here to access the Twitter reading list for lawyers.

Constitution by Crowd

Well, not exactly. But Iceland is bringing the general population (and followers around the globe) into the process of creating a new national constitution this summer, using the new social media. Iceland is soliciting citizen suggestions on the Constitutional Council website, where the most recent draft is posted in Icelandic, along with an English translation by Google Translate. A JURIST post has more on the process, which also involves Twitter and Facebook pages and a YouTube channel (in Icelandic), not only to facilitate comments but also to post interviews with delegates and live broadcasts of Council meetings. It's all part of the Council's stated intention to "open communication with the Icelandic nation" and give "the people an opportunity to participate in the formation of a new Constitution of the Republic of Iceland." A 21st century version of the constitutional convention has arrived.

Copyright and Twitter

Does posting a picture to Twitter via TwitPic give all other Twitter users an implied license to use your picture, including for commercial gain?

You wouldn't think so, and the Southern District of New York did not think so in the recent decision Agence France Presse v. Morel, but copyright law as applied to the internet can be such a complicated mess that Agence France Presse was able to make that argument with a straight face and have it answered with a lengthy decision.

Stephen Kramarsky analyzes the case and its implications for Law Technology News here.

Study Break: Tweeting Gettysburg

As mentioned by The Chronicle of Higher Education, historical scholarship has taken on a whole new form. A group is now tweeting famous historical events as though they were occurring in real time today. They began with the Battle of Gettysburg.

So, is historical tweeting a valuable teaching tool, or is it just an unusual way of using Twitter?
