App: Newsy

The app Newsy is a way to find video news tailored for the life of a busy professional.  Rather than just random streams of news, Newsy crafts mini news broadcasts and give another perspective on what has happened in the day.

"Newsy’s claim to fame is the way that it combines news from a compilation of sources to provide you with every angle of a story.  Newsy’s rotating editorial teams monitor each day’s news. They research blogs, newspapers, magazines, television channels and also scan the Internet, using sources such as MSNBC, FOX News, CNN, ABC, and TechCrunch just to name a few." Read more here.

Newsy is available for iOS, Android, Blackberry, and at Newsy.com.

GovTrack.us & LegiScan

iBrary Guy has a fairly recent post comparing and contrasting GovTrack.us and LegiScan.  Yes, one can track federal and state legislation using a commercial service but both of these offer a basic level of tracking legislation for free.  GovTrack.us is for tracking federal legislation and LegiScan for state.  The post provides some background information, how to use, and what results may be expected.

These are useful resources if you don't have access to a subscription database but want to follow federal and state legislation.

Animal Art?

If you’re looking for an interesting non-legal question to ponder and argue during your break, then how about this one: Can non-human animals create art, in the sense we typically intend by that term?

This article offers an intriguing brief overview of the subject, along with examples of the art (or whatever else you wish to call it) of different species.
