Holy Batgirl! What is this? Is it a
bird? Is it a plane?
No! It's Painted Pianos!!!!
Pianos on Parade or POP is
a program by Keys 4/4 Kids
and KCMTA-Kansas City
Music Teachers Association.
"A local non-profit organization
that sells donated pianos. Profits
from the sale of the pianos fund
various charitable programs.
KCMTA is celebrating 100 years
of music instruction in Kansas
City.
The pianos are on tour at various
locations--sidewalks, parking lots,
storefronts, movie theater lobby
even a Farmer's Market venue.
The goal of the project is to
"turn sidewalks, parks, store-
fronts into concert halls and
create fun ares for people to
stop and play."
Check out the knitted feet on the
bench. Most of the pianos have
been painted by kids and
professional artists.
Enjoy!
I must interrupt here to say
This is my FAVORITE of the
ones we've found so far.
Love the Farm Theme.
This was the one we found
at the Farmer's Market
venue.
So creative!
Oh
so
CUTE!!!
We still have more to find.
There are rumored to be
around 100 popping up in
and around the city!
Hope you enjoyed the
Parade!

Last Wednesday we went on a
Free Public Tour of the
Boulevard Brewing Company.
Brewery production and new
construction.
In a turn of the century brick
building on the Historic South-
west Blvd., a vintage Bavarian
brewhouse was installed in 1988
with the mission to "produce fresh
flavorful beer using the finest
ingredients and the best of both old
and new brewing techniques.
Production began fully in 1989.
The Brewery offers three types of tours.
The Free Public Tour and Tasting which
is first come first served. Arrive early!
The Smokestack Tour and Tasting by
reservation only, focuses on the Smoke-
stack Series Brew-"a bigger, bolder and
higher alcohol content brew."
The Unfiltered Tour by reservation only,
this tour goes more in depth into the
brewery and it's production.
Plus they have 3 event spaces to rent for
weddings. receptions, meetings etc.
Are you ready?
Tickets for the 11:00 tour.
I'd like to introduce Bob--our tour
director.
The famous Smokestack.
Bob told us that back in the day
this used to be a laundry facility
for the railroad.
On the way up the stairs.
A look
inside the
brewery production line.
Boulevard is best known
for their Unfiltered Wheat
Beer, which is what is on
the line in the pic.
Not everyday that on finds their maiden
name on a beer poster.
Jazz and beer go together just right
for Kansas City. This was taken from
their beautiful patio.
Guess who? Getting really good
at the "Selfie thing."
Part of the tour is a tasting of two
beers each. They had a board
with a number of brews available
for that days tasting.
They were pretty good but not at
all used to drinking beer at 11:45
in the morning.
Fun place to tour. If you are in KC
check it out.
Friday we will finish with the
Vacation Highlights.

Last Tuesday we went to Independence,
Missouri to visit the Harry S. Truman
Library and Museum. A popular place
for school trips and summer visits.
Truman was the 33rd President after
an 18 month Vice-Presidency and the
death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon
the death of Roosevelt he was sworn in
as President and took on WWII.
The library is currently running an
exhibit on WWII. It is the 70th
Anniversary of the war.
The library was dedicated in 1957 and
since then millions have visited the
library to learn more about
the "Man from Missouri."
Born in Lamar, Missouri in 1884 and
died in Kansas City, Missouri in 1972.
Inaugural Gala artifacts.
Life Magazine showed a glimpse of
America in 1952 as Truman was
preparing to leave office. This is one
of the many pages from that series.
"Kansas City in 1952."
A life size bronze sculpture of Truman
in one of the galleries.
Across from the statue on can view
the Flame of Freedom which is located
in the courtyard. Also in the courtyard
are the gravestones of the President,
his wife Bess, his daughter Margaret
and her husband Clifton.
Seventy years since WWII. A time of
turmoil for millions.
I found this poster to be very interesting.
Funny but not really.
This is a poster showing a WOW.
A Woman Ordinance Worker.
If you remember your history,
women left traditional jobs such
as domestic service to help in war
production, then in WWII at it's
height, over 15,000 women
comprised 42% of the Armory
workforce.
This is a replica of the Oval Office as it
was in 1950. You could just imagine the
President stepping into the room at any
minute.
This time capsule located on the
museum lawn is dedicated to the
President. It was formally dedicated
in 1976, sealed in 1977 and will be
opened on May 8, 2076. What will
the world be like then??
Tickets and guide to the library and
museum.
Do you have a Presidential library near
you? Have you been to it? If not, go
check it out.
There are 13 of them in the US. Four of
the former Presidents are still living and
nine are deceased.
Tomorrow we will be off to a new
destination.
