DT card for QR Stampede Chalenge #263 - Anything Goes - Option: dies or punches

This week there is another easy option for the Anything Goes challenge at the QKR Stampede - Cut it up with punches or dies  Remember, the option is up to you.  You have until 3 p.m. Thursday for up to 3 entries,  Winners receive digis from the QKR/Eureka store, and if you use one of their images you can win more! My image has such an original name - Old Car!  The sentiment is also from QKR Stampede.   I used Spellbinder Nestabilities for the ovals, and a border die for the loops.  The embossing is Distressed Stripes, sponged with black ink.  I used black and white - one of my most favorite color combos.

SCS Dare to Get Dirty - Margs'

It does not show well on the screen but the dark raspberry shiny cs is embossed with my Embossalicious birthday folder.  The die cut has no name - it was a freebie with a magazine and I have forgotten which.  The 80 is for my Sister - in -laws birthday.

New On the Edge Die

I just bought several Couture On the Edge dies - this one is called Verbascum.  I cut the die a second time, using a sage green, and taped the pieces to the back.  This is a bit time consuming and I probably will not use this technique often though I do like the result. There are shiny light blue gems for the flower center.   I used dark blue cs for the main die, and backed it with shimmery champagne cs.  The light blue layer is also a shimmery finish.  The die cut letters are Cuttlebug Olivia, and I added a piece of fiber to separate the panels.

Edith is 100

I am trying to put some order in the chaos of my craft room.  I am so blessed to have an abundance of supplies - I do find it difficult to purge as I keep thinking I will have time to use what I have...some day.  At any rate, this is an image from a very old SU set called Natural Beauty - it was in my box of items received through Wish RAK.  I colored with Twinkling H20's, and matched with a piece of DP that was part of a pad I bought years ago.  This cranberry is one of my favorites.  I added cranberry half pearls, pieces of a doily, and sheer ribbon.  This goes to hubby's aunt - the last survivor of our parents' generation.

DT card for Eureka Stamps challenge #196 - "wings"

I really like this penguin trying to stay cool.  When I chose the image, I certainly did not realize that the outside temperature here in Arizona would be a record breaking 115 - the earliest date recorded for that high a temperature!
Before submitting this card to a couple of challenges, I felt I had to verify some facts.  To find out if penguins have feathers and if they qualify as winged creatures, check out this website:  Penguin.net.nz/faq/ .  Among other things you will learn is that penguins do in fact have knees, feathers and wings!
Challenge #196 at Eureka Stamps is "things with wings".  You have until 3pm EDT Sunday to enter as many as 3 times.  You may win some of the Eureka images.

For Pastor

This thank you goes to a retired pastor who has been leading a winter Bible study for 8 years.  He has decided it is time to retire a bit more!  I used this Easter image from Eureka digis combined with purple - to represent this Easter season as well.  I found a good verse at

Eureka challenge #183 - paper piecing

The challenge this week at Eureka stamps is paper piecing.  This is a fun way to add texture and a bit of dimension.  It is also a great way to create a different look for items of clothing as well as other images.  I have learned that it is important to choose patterns carefully - I find that dainty patterns work best for me.  I used two different patterned papers - for the dresses, the ribbons in the hats, and the backgrounds. I used markers to add a touch of color to the flowers on the hats. I used a darker golden yellow for the mats, and a sheer gold ribbon to add a final touch - along with the shiny gems.  Here is another tip if this is a new technique for you - color the rest of the image (the part next to the pieced layer) before adhering the DP in order to achieve a well blended edge.  (I'll bet you can figure out how I know that!)  I recently read a tip to use Stickles around the edge of the main image - I tried it here, though you cannot really see it well on the screen.  It does a lot to highlight the image.  I lightly sponged the image and sentiment, and distressed the edge of the circle to give a bit of a distressed look.
The new Eureka image I used is Best Friends, and the new sentiment is also from Eureka.  It is a font I really like.

Arlene is 98!

This is for a friend of a friend - what a milestone!  The DP and sentiment are from a large pack of items from Kanban.  I am still experimenting with the Spellbinder Majestic Elements - I used the same black and shimmery Champagne cs that I used to create the card base.  The name and numbers are die cuts, and I added some sheer ribbon as well as a bit of glitter at both the top and bottom of the oval.
