Card Design: Scribbles Designs Challenge #20--Animal Planet

It is time for the next challenge over at the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog.

This month for Challenge #20, the theme is
Animal Planet.
Rabbits, cats and foxes, oh my! Our world wouldn't be the same without all the wonderful species of animals in it and many of our lives wouldn't be the same without our pets keeping us company. This month we want to see an animal on your creation. Whether wild or domestic it doesn't matter; as long as it has fur, feathers, or fins, it qualifies. So, take a walk on the wild side and show us what you've got.

In order to participate in our challenges you DO NOT NEED TO USE A SCRIBBLES DESIGNS IMAGE on your project but you must follow the monthly theme and the other rules that have been established for our particular challenge blog.  You can find them, along with the prize information, listed in the right hand sidebar of the challenge blog.  This challenge will end at 9pm PST on September 14th.

You can purchase your Scribbles Designs images HERE and there is a free image over on the challenge blog as well to help get you started.  Also, be sure to check out Sam's special Freebie Friday posts as it is another great way to build your Scribbles Designs collection.

To help inspire you, I've created a thank you card using one of Sandy's adorable Mr. Wool images.  Here are my card and details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything important...

General Information:

  • Okay, so on hindsight, maaaayyyyybbbbeeee the image could have been a bit bigger.  It is always a tricky thing measuring them out on the computer hoping that they'll fit the spacing properly.  When I did my mock up, the sizing looked fine but when it was printed, it seemed a tad small.  Oh well, hopefully it still looks okay.
  • In my effort to use more clean and simple layouts, I decided to use a sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches.  Melissa designs some fabulous ones and I really liked the CAS look to this one.  Clicking on the sketch will bring you to the blog.

FRONT
Digital Image Details:
  • Mr. Wool Daisy (close-up):  I truly love Mr. Wool.  He is just so cute and cuddly and I want to wrap my arms around him and snuggle.  He is quite the character as well.  You never know the antics, he and his buddies are going to get up to.  I thought this close up of him would be great for this layout.  Clicking on the watermark below will take you to its location within the store.
    • Mr Wool was coloured with Copic markers.  Mr Wool: N0, C1, C3.  Flower:  R24, R27, Y11.  Sky: BG10 and colourless blender.

  • Fancy Butterfly:  I managed to sneak a cute little butterfly from MelJen's Designs onto my project.  I really love Melissa's work and try to add her images to my projects whenever I can. Clicking on the watermark below will take you to its location within the store.
    • This image was also coloured with Copics: R22, R24, R27, Y11. Y13.

Challenges I am hoping to enter...

If you have some time I invite you to go and check out the wonderful inspiration offered up from my colleagues on the DT. We always look forward to seeing what you come up with for each month's theme!

Card Design: Two Challenges -- One Card

This month I've decided to create a card using the stamp that I got in the Imagine That progressive challenge to create the front of my card and then take a freebie I got from MelJen's to create the inside of my card.

First up for the FRONT OF THE CARD--Imagine That...Progressive Challenge for May
http://imaginethatdigistamp.blogspot.ca/
Can you believe it?! It is only the middle of the month and I am actually ready to upload my creation for the Imagine That Progressive Challenge.  Of course since I was using the image to make my momma her Mother's Day card, I guess it is only fitting I have it done already.
I am so lucky that I am part of this wonderful progressive challenge.  Kris is an amazing designer and I just love getting a chance to earn her fabulous new sets each month by linking up.

This month the set that everyone who is part of the progressive challenge gets to play with, is the sweet "Girl with MOM Banner"
.

So cute, right?!  As always, you get the option of working with whichever version of the image you'd like to.  There are some great sentiments in the set to work with as well.

Here are my card and details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

General Comments:

  • I wanted to design my card so that I could incorporate the bookmark I created for my momma (click HERE to check that post out) right into the card layout.  I think it turned out rather well.

FRONT

Digital Image Details:
  • Girl with MOM Banner:  If you don't have it, this set is available in the store for purchase at a discount for the remainder of May. Click on the image name or the watermark above to head to its location in the store.
  • This time I used a combination of digital colouring, digital paper piecing, and hand colouring with Copic markers.
  • Digital Credits include:
    • Cloud pattern:  Webtreats, etc.
    • Grass: one of the default brushes in Photoshop Elements 12
    • Hat, dress, socks and shoes were paper pieced with digital papers from the Thursday Break kit created by Correen Silke available at {Computer}Scrapbook.com.
  • All other elements of the image were coloured with Copics.
Embellishments:
  • Pink lace ribbon and flowers were purchased at Dollarama.
Now for the INSIDE OF THE CARD with MelJen's Designs...

I really am such an uber fan of Melissa Jenkins.  Her images are just so stinkin' adorable.  They are also very distinctive.  Any time I see a card with one of her images, I know right away that Melissa designed it.  Unfortunately, I don't get to create very often using her images but whenever I can I will try to slip one into my card.  Currently the MelJen's blog has a Mom challenge going on so it was the perfect time to add one of her images to my card. The image I chose worked well with the overall card.

  • The image was coloured in with Copic markers and then I used some blue chalk to give the illusion of swirling air.  Here is a close up of the little cutie pie.

Digital Sentiment Details:
  • One available in Girl with MOM Banner set from Imagine That.  Details for this set listed in the above section.
OVERALL
Paper Products:

  • The striped paper on the front and inside is a digital paper from the same kit I used to do my paper piecing (details above).

Digital Embellishments:
  • The matting in behind the image on the front and the frame on the inside were adapted using a layer style from The Scrappin' Cop.
Challenges:
Others I might get it into...
Thanks for popping by everyone! I am EXTREMELY late getting supper prepared but I only had a few hours left to get my card into the Meljen's challenge, so the hubs has to suffer once again.  Maybe one of these days he won't have to suffer so much for my art.

Until next time,

Card Design: Two Challenges, One Card

It always seems that the end of one month, beginning of the next, is such a busy time for me so I am creatively looking at ways to combine things.  This month I've decided to create a card using the stamp that I got in the From the Heart progressive stamp of the month challenge to create the front of my card and then take a freebie I got from MelJen's to create the inside of my card.

First up--From the Heart progressive stamp of the month challenge...

http://fromtheheartstamps.com/community/blog/
In order to enter this challenge, you must either have received the latest image by having participated in the previous month or you can buy the stamp for the current month's challenge.  Everyone who enters and follows the rules is a winner because you automatically get the stamp for the next month's challenge.  Stop by the site and check out the rules for yourself.  While you are there, have a look around.  They have some really great images.  The front of my card was made specifically for the January challenge.

I have been participating in Faith's progressive challenge for exactly a year now.  I just love her images so much.  Maybe one day I'll even have a chance to try out for her team.  Although it may be a bit of a pipe dream considering the amount of talent over there.  At least I still get to keep participating in her challenges!

FRONT
Digital Image:
  • The image on the front, Caught Your Heart, is available for purchase over at From the Heart Stamps.  Click HERE or on the watermark below to go to its location in the store.
    • The image has been mostly coloured with Copic markers:  R11, R14, R17, colourless blender, N0, C1.  Two different shades of grey were used to colour the flooring.
    • Digital credits...The wallpaper was digitally paper pieced using a paper from the Another Tea Party kit created by Correen Silke a designer for ComputerScrapbook.com.
Digital Sentiment:
  • This sweet sentiment was created by Paulette from Create with TLC.  Click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and HERE to go to the store.
  • I added a dotted circle to it before printing it out.
Embossing Folder:
  • The small dots on the white cardstock were created with a Goosebumpz embossing folder using my wonderful Big Shot machine.

Now for the inside with MelJen's Designs...

I am such an uber fan of Melissa Jenkins.  Her images are just so stinkin' adorable.  They are also very distinctive.  Anytime I see a card with one of her images, I know right away who the designer is.  While I've been collecting her freebies since the dawn of time it seems, I had yet to create a card with one of them--until now that is.  I am happy to say that the time is finally here for me to show off a creation using an image from the incomparable MelJen!  The image I worked with fit beautifully with the front of the card.

Currently the MelJen's blog has a Not Just Black and White challenge (where you need to use both those colours plus one more) going on and both the image on the front and the one on the inside were perfect choices for using black and white and my colour choice of: shades of red.

INSIDE
Digital Image:
  • This image is called Love Letter, and is available for purchase over at Meljen's Designs.  Click HERE or on the watermark below to go to its location in the store.

http://meljensdesigns.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23_25&products_id=891
  • The image has been coloured with the same Copic marker colours as above.
Digital Sentiment:
  • This wonderful sentiment is also from Create with TLC.  YaY, I managed to get two of Paulette's sentiments into one card again!

OVERALL
Paper Products:

  • Card base: Michael's Recollection's Cardstock, white.
  • Designer Papers:  Both the dotted paper used on both the front and inside, along with the one with tiny squares used to create the pennant shapes, are from Recollection's Bold Basics Paper Pad.
Challenges:
Others I might get it into...

Thanks for popping by everyone!  I am hoping to get one more post done for tonight while the hubs is at training.  So I will hopefully see you all again soon.

Until next time,
