Card Design: Pattie's Creations Challenge #140...Birthdays

http://pattiescreationschallenge.blogspot.ca

Hello to all my friends and readers out there in blogland! I'm here today to announce the next challenge over at Pattie's Creations Design Challenge. This time around for Challenge #140, the theme is Birthdays. I do believe that it is the month of birth for both Pattie, the owner and designer of Pattie's Creations, and her sister Sandi, who happens to be our past Team Leader. So it is the perfect month to be celebrating the theme of birthdays! Happy birthday Pattie and Sandi and to anyone else celebrating a birthday in November!

I also wanted to say a special thank you to Sandi for being such a great team leader these past 3 and a half years that I've been with the team. Sandi has stepped away from the team to take on new adventures in life. I wish her all the best!

Now on to my card. I hope that I haven't forgotten any important details:

General Info:
  • This card has been created 100% digitally and then layered in a Mock Up (courtesy of Frisk Shop). I will print it out and assemble it a later date.

Digital Image Details:
  • Happy Birthday Bear: A rather adorable image. You can find it in Pattie's Etsy shop by clicking on the image name or watermark linked below.

Digital Embellishment Details:
  •  I have used basic shapes in Photoshop Elements to create matting in behind the image and sentiment.

Challenges I am hoping to enter...

You have until Nov. 30th to enter our challenge which should give you lots of time to get a creation done. Remember the theme is Birthdays. I really hope that you will be able to join us. You can enter twice per challenge and of course MUST follow all the challenge requirements that are posted for each challenge (please click HERE to become familiar with all the rules). In addition to all the typical criterion, you MUST USE A DIGITAL OR STAMPED IMAGE to qualify for the drawing (unless stated otherwise). We would absolutely love to see you use a Pattie's Creations (PC) image on your card, but you are allowed to use other images. If you do use a PC image, you will gain an extra entry in the draw and will have a better chance to WIN!  Easy Peasy right?!

Pop over to the challenge blog and check out what my fabulous teammates have offered up for inspiration. Oh and don't forget…Pattie offers up a new freebie the first Friday of the month and it will remain up for approximately two weeks; so, be sure to pop over and check it out as well!

Well guys, that is it for this one. Hopefully I will see you all very soon.

Until next time,

Card Design: From the Heart Stamps November Challenge

Holy Lord love a duck I am cutting it close with this month's entry.  With just under nine hours to go, I'm definitely pushing it.  I'm not feeling the greatest today which certainly isn't helping the situation so on that note I better get on with it.

It is time to post my card for the From the Heart Stamps progressive stamp of the month challenge.   In order to enter this challenge, you must either have received the latest image by having participated in the previous month or you can buy the stamp for the current month's challenge.  Everyone who enters and follows the rules is a winner because you automatically get the stamp for the next month's challenge.  Stop by the site and check out the rules for yourself.  While you are there, have a look around.  They have some really great images.  Below you will find the card I'm entering for the November challenge.

Here are my card and details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

General Information:
  • I've gone pretty clean and simple for this one and created another one layer card.

FRONT
Digital Images:
  • The image on the front, Balloon Ride, is available for purchase over at From the Heart Stamps.  Click HERE or on the watermark below to go to its location in the store.
    • The image has been coloured with Copic markers.
http://fromtheheartstamps.com/shop/cute-mice/102-balloon-ride.html
  • Those awesome balloons at the bottom of the front are a precoloured image from Romiposer 11.  It has been awhile since I've worked with her products and I miss it.  She graciously allows me to create freebies as long as they are PUO only and the last ones I think I created were at Easter.  It was wonderful to use some of her creations in this card.
Digital Sentiments:
  • 'Happy, happy, happy' is from the set of FTHS that we received this month.  These sets are so great because you always get at least a sentiment or two that work with the image(s).

INSIDE
Digital Images:
  • Yup, I went balloon crazy in this one.  These balloons are from the same set that I used for the front of the card.  If you are unfamiliar with Romiposer 11's work, you should really check it out.
Digital Sentiments:
  • 'Celebrate in a Big Way' is also from the FTHS set.
  • The 'Happy Birthday To You' sentiment is from the ever generous Paulette of Create with TLC.  Click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and HERE to go to the store.

Card Design: Delightful Inspiration February Challenge

It is time for me to post my card for the Delightful Inspiration, formerly known as Designed 2 Delight, progressive stamp of the month challenge. This is the card I'm entering for the February challenge.

I had someone tell me that it seems to take forever for my blog to load and I don't know if it is because the pictures are too large or if she just has a slow computer.  I never seem to have a problem myself; for me it always loads extremely fast.  Is there anyone else out there who consistently finds my blog really slow in loading compared to others of a similar nature????  So for a couple of posts I'm going to reduce the size of the images within the post and see if that makes any difference for her.  You can always click on each image to see them in much better detail if you find the size too small here.

Front of the card...

A closer look at the front...

Here is the inside of the card...

Here are the card details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

General Notes:
  • This card is making a trip to a different country so I hope it holds up well!
Digital Image:
  • Don't these images look they belong together?  Well, actually they are two separate images.  The spring flower basket is the wonderful image that I got to play with this month from Delightful Inspiration.  The other image you may recognize from all the promoting I did for Fresh Brewed Design's new line up of spring images.  This is Sweet Bunny which you can find in the store HERE in the Spring collection.  To me it actually looks like Sweet Bunny is picking her flower from the spring flower basket.  I love that Spring Bunny is versatile enough that you can use her on a wide range of cards and not just for Easter.
  • Spring Basket--Basket:  Y32, Y35.  Bow:  B00, B02.  Leaves:  YG63, YG67.  Flowers:  RV00, RV02, BV000, BV00, Y11, B00.  Butterflies:  BG10, BG15, BV00, BV02.
  • Sweet Bunny:  Y11, Y13, Y15, G20, G24 (tulip); (dress & shoes); E000, E00, E02 (fur); R20 (cheeks); R20, R22 (ears & nose); B00 (eyes).
  • Now, I'd love to take credit for the sky but I can't.  I'm tired of having my skies look so pathetic and until I learn how to do them properly, that is just how they are going to look.  So, this week I decided that I was going to see if there was a free digital paper out there that had a sky with some clouds.  I found a few that didn't really do what I wanted them to, and then I came across this awesome free pack of four beach scenes from Sky's the Limit Scraps.  She has some amazing freebies but it looks like she is no longer active on her blog since her last post is from 2011.  It is too bad because I would have loved to have put her in one of the showcases.  Anyways, I took one of the papers and cropped out everything but the sky.  Then I opened up the basket and used the magic lasso tool to cut it out of the white background and then did the same thing with Sweet Bunny.  I brought both of them over and placed them on the sky background.  Now there must be an easier way to change the transparency around an image.  I've a call into one of my readers who just talked about making the background of her image transparent so I'm hoping it will be easy enough that she can find the time to quickly guide me through it.
  • I also tried a new technique with my colouring today.  Since there is such a difference between B00 and B02 and between RV00 and RV02, I find that sometimes it just is too bold going from one to the other.  Now I don't have a wide selection of markers to buy from up here in the great white north.  Okay, maybe I'm not that far up, poor Jennifer from My Cubby Crafts is a heck of a lot farther north in the Yukon than I am in northern Ontario BUT there is only one store up here that sells Copics and the colour choice is limited.  All that to say that I have to make do with what I've got so I need to blend better. This week I learned the palette transfer technique and it made such a difference. You can see how much more subtle the blending of the pinks and blues are in this card. It is all about learning in baby steps right?
  • The grass was added in using a blend of watercolour pencils.
Digital Sentiment:
  • Friends Make Life Blossom:  I just love this free sentiment I picked up awhile back from TLC Creations.  Actually, I have plans to use it on another card real soon.  It is a perfect fit to accompany this image.
Paper Products:
  •  If you've been following along this week you'll recogonize all but one of these papers.  I used the same ones in my Digi Darla Challenge card on Monday.  If you want to know what they are click HERE and scroll down to 'Paper Products'.
  • The only other papers used were the multi-hued creamy yellow cardstock and the white shimmery cardstock used as a shadow on the front.  Both are open stock from Michael's.
Ribbon:
  • Craft brand white ribbon--from Dollarama.

Embellishments:
  •  Buttons from our stash.
Including Delightful Inspirations (link up top), these are the other challenges I hope to enter:
Thank you so much for stopping by.  As I've now added to my comment section, whether you are a regular, here for the first time or popping over in your official capacity as a DT member, please know how much I appreciate the words that you leave behind.  Your encouragement helps me to become a better designer.   I try my best to reply to your comments (when an email address is available) but that is getting more and more difficult as my plate fills up with new responsibilities, new roles, and new obligations.  If I don't get the opportunity to thank you personally, know that I don't take a single comment for granted. Thank you for your understanding.

Until next time,

So head on over to
and join the challenge!

Here is the front of my card...

 And here is the inside...

This is a card that was meant for my cousin Blair for his birthday on January 2nd.  I still haven't sent it.  Poor Blair, sorry about that cuz.

Here are the card details, I hope I haven't forgotten anything...
  • Given the time frame that I had to work in I decided to try and go with a more clean and simple look but then I saw a challenge to add something with flowers, then I saw another to add something sparkly and then there was the one with the snowflake.  So, needless to say my card grew in complexity.  The unfortunate thing is that I didn't mark down where any of those challenges were when I came across them and now have probably missed them!  Note to self:  Be better prepared next time you come across a possible future challenge.
  • The outside sentiment is die cut using Cricut's Phrases kit.  It is printed onto Recollection's Cardstock White Paper, on a blue piece from the Recollection's Cardstock Cape Cod paper pack, and on a light blue sheet from K & C Company Designer Papers.
  • The 'snowflake' is diecut using Cricut's Elegant Edges kit using the same white paper.  A shadow was cut as well using the same blue paper previously mentioned.  I then added lots and lots of dark blue fairy dust  glitter (oops shh...the faries don't want people know they are helping me out).  I'll have you know that I'm still finding glitter in all the wrong places!
  • The inside sentiment is from TLC CreationsIt is also printed onto Recollection's Cardstock White Paper.  What would I do without Paulette's sentiments?
  • Other Paper:  The card base is from the Recollection's Cardstock Cape Cod paper pack; the patterned paper is from K & C Company Designer Papers--the blue collection.
  • The silver metallic floral embellishments were purchased at Dollarama.  These count towards the silver portion of The Stamping Chef's challenge.  They should also count as the flowers portion for a couple other challenges.
  • One of the challenges says to create a paper project with a new crafty item that you got for the holidays or if you didn't get any crafty items to use something from your stash that you bought and have not used yet.  Well, in this case, the papers from K & C Company have never been used nor have I used that glitter or the floral embellishments.  Additionally, this is the first time I've use the 'one year older' phrase.  Is that enough new?
  • I'm afraid I was a bit confused for the Delicious Doodles Challenge.  Their blog post address states anything goes using blues but the blog post states anything goes using favourite colours.  So, I should have it covered both ways because I did use blues and I love the colour blue.
  • The Glitter and Sparkles Challenge is to use a digi as is the Digital Tuesday Challenge.  Does it count if the digi is on the inside?  I certainly hope so.
  • The Love to Create challenge is Sparkle and Snowflakes.  Now the Sparkle is pretty obvious with the blue glitter and the silver metallic embellishments.  The snowflake isn't quite so obvious but it is there too.  The die cut shape that the sentiment sits on and the shadow layer that the glitter is on are both die cut snowflakes.  Really!  I promise.  I can even send you a copy of the page in the Cricut book that says so.

Challenges I will be entering the card into:
Some more challenges may be added to this list throughout the week or month.

I apologize if there are any formatting issues.  This is a scheduled post and we all know Blogger has a mind of it's own.  If it turns out that something looks wonky, I'll fix it as soon as I'm able to.

Thanks so much for stopping by and please leave some love if you have the time.

Until next time,
