Antabax and R.E.A.L Kids Partner to Reduce the Spread of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

Yay! Antabax Care Kits including for REAL Kids Ara Damansara students.

While Hand, Foot and Mouth Diseases (HFMD) is on the downtrend in Malaysia with 106,477 cases reported as of 18 June 2022, it is still an approximately 39 fold increase compared to the 2,710 cases1 reported for the same period last year, according to the latest report by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a very contagious common illness which typically affects children below 5 years of age, although adults and older children can also be infected.

HFMD is highly transmissible, and childcare settings are the most common places for HFMD to be contracted because of toilet training, diaper changes, and the fact that children often put their hands into their mouths.

What can we as parents do to keep the little ones safer?

To accompany Malaysian parents in combating HFMD, Antabax, Malaysia's leading Halal anti-bacterial personal care brand is partnering with R.E.A.L Kids, the country’s largest owner-operated kindergarten chain with 45 centres and 3,600 students nationwide by equipping students, teachers and staff with Antabax care kits for on-the-go personal hygiene, and creative education materials to raise understanding of the dos and don’ts of HFMD.

Students at REAL Kids TTDI are delighted with their Antabax Care Kits.

“As a leading brand in hygiene and sanitation solution for consumers, Antabax is committed to providing regular education and continuous access to strengthen healthy and hygenic habits, and together creating a healthier and cleaner community. Good personal care, good hygiene especially hand hygiene may help prevent the spread of HFMD. Through Antabax product solutions, we trust that parents and teachers play an important role in teaching children to wash or sanitise their hands frequently before and after eating, as well as before and after going to the toilet, after group activities or touching suspect surfaces, and avoid sharing or touching other children, sharing water bottles, food or toys2. Provide your child with their own sanitiser and show them how to use it, and when to use it too! Clean hands keep us safe,” says Chua Su Fee, Marketing Manager from Antabax. She further remarked that this activity is only the beginning of Antabax’s long-term commitment to continuously contribute and bring a positive impact on Malaysian families.

Speaking on the partnership with Antabax, Ng Ming-yan, Operations Manager at R.E.A.L Kids says, “We are glad to partner with Antabax once again, as the brand continues to educate and raise awareness on infectious diseases that affect children in a creative and timely manner. We would also remind parents to reinforce good hygiene behavior at home, and to wipe down their little ones’ belongings to reduce the spread. Always remind your child to keep their hands away from their mouth, and if they are unwell do not send them to school but take them to a clinic or hospital for diagnosis3.”

Antabax will be sharing educational materials and tips on reducing the spread of HFMD, which will be distributed to all R.E.A.L Kids students nationwide. Content includes creative discussion and activities sheets for students developed by teachers and caregivers on reducing the risk of HFMD. The brand continues its role as an enabler to encourage parents, students and teachers to get back in action by emphasizing good personal hygiene practices, which is in-line with its #BaxInAction theme.

The brand will be contributing its products including antibacterial sanitizer spray, bar soap and antibacterial wipes which able to kill 99.9% of germs and give parents peace of mind about their child’s hygiene.

A promotional voucher that can be used on Antabax products purchase is provided to support parents in making their next Antabax purchase. Faber-Castell Malaysia has launched the Fast Gel Z, a new retractable gel pen that offers an unbeatable smooth writing experience, making it the smoothest gel pen in the market.

In engineering the Fast Gel Z, Faber-Castell developed a new and innovative multi-channelled tip that is paired with ultra-low viscosity1 ink that results in an unrivalled smooth writing performance. This innovative combination results in The Fast Gel Z Pen delivering the smoothest writing performance out of any other pen in the market.

With the new tip technology, there is less friction between the pen and the paper, resulting in a smooth laydown. In laboratory friction tests conducted with other competitor gel pens in the market, the Fast Gel Z pen achieves the lowest friction.

“Faber-Castell always strives to produce innovative products that cater to the demands and needs of consumers. Some of the concerns we noted among consumers when using a gel pen is its inability to glide smoothly coupled with constant ink smudges and slippery especially during a long writing duration, which do not give consumers a good writing experience. This has prompted us to innovate the Fast Gel Z pen that can take users’ writing experience to new peaks,” said Mr Andrew Woon, Managing Director of Faber-Castell Malaysia.

“With the inclusion of the latest technologies, such as the precision tip technology and ultra smooth ink feature, one can now experience pure writing pleasure using the Fast Gel Z Pen as it ensures an effortless, vibrant and intense line; without skips, smudges and lags,” added Andrew.

Andrew said the gel pen is an important business segment for Faber-Castell Malaysia. According to a study by Kantar, the world’s leading data, insights and consulting company, the market size of gel pens in 2019 stands at RM43 million in Malaysia.

Persistence Market Research’s published report in 2020 state that the global writing instruments market is expected to expand 1.5 times by 2030. Students represent the biggest opportunity in terms of end users in the writing instruments market and is on track to expand at a CAGR of around 5 percent through 2030. Easy Ways to Encourage Your Child to Read and Write

Literacy skills are one of the first early learning strategies your child will encounter. Efficient learning starts at home, and it isn’t difficult to get your child off to a great start. Here are some easy ways to introduce a love of reading and writing in your home.

Easy Access

Children are drawn to low-hanging fruit, so they won’t be likely to read and write unless there are accessible materials around them. Consider creating reading and writing stations around your home that are attractive and well-stocked. Place fun kids’ chairs and bean bags next to tables and small bookshelves. Organize paper, writing and coloring utensils and glue sticks in baskets so that they can create their own books. You can also put their books on display next to their reading books.

Variety

When you read to your child aloud, you get the dual benefits of spending time together and helping build your child’s literacy skills. If your child is in school, ask his or her teacher which books he or she gravitates to. You can base your library on those books, and repeat any stories your child particularly loves. Include a variety of books in your home library, including those that feature poetry, illustrative stories with interesting characters and fables. You can reinforce reading time with a corresponding activity that mimics a detail from the book.

Alphabet Awareness

Fill your home with letters and your child will soon understand how ubiquitous the alphabet is. Your arsenal should include small manipulatives such as puzzles, magnetic letters, stamps and blocks. Also use large visuals, such as ABC charts, posters and banners. Use any opportunity to include the alphabet in your daily interactions. Singing phonics and alphabet songs are especially popular with little ones.

You don’t have to have a teaching degree to strengthen your child’s reading skills. Start with these simple tips to see what works best for your little reader.

TYCTTV: The Future Advocate Poetry and Storytelling Competition

Open to all children between the ages of 4 and 12 as part of Royal Canin’s “Take Your Cat to the Vet” initiative

Submission deadline is extended! Post your entries by 12 noon 24 November, 2020

Newman Drama collaborates with Royal Canin Malaysia to launch the TYCTTV: The Future Advocate Poetry & Storytelling Competition starting 19 October 2020. The competition that opens to all children between the ages of 4 and 12 is part of Royal Canin’s “Take Your Cat to the Vet” initiative that has been continuously organised annually since 2016.

“Newman Drama wants to encourage young children especially to build the confidence to face real-life scenarios such as group interactions, oral communications, interpersonal skills and many more. With the recent announcement of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) that limits our physical classes, this competition couldn’t have launched at a better timing. We hope that children in Malaysia will take this opportunity to present and recite poetry, and share their stories about their favourite topic - their beloved cats!” said Siew Yong, Founder and Director, Newman Drama. “While we offer physical classes in the Klang Valley and Penang, now with the online competition, we can reach out to more children across the nation”.

The collaboration was signed to encourage more children to sharpen and showcase their talent in creative communications and public speaking. “Other than providing this platform for our future generation to express themselves and share their own insights, Royal Canin hopes to educate them about the importance of veterinary care for cats. We know that children love cats for the cute and playful nature, but we also need to teach them the proper steps to caring for our furry little friends - the type of food the cats need to maintain their overall health and shiny coat, the regular check-ups, the grooming and other aspects of pet care. With the collaboration with Newman Drama School, children can begin to cultivate the values of animal welfare from a very young age,” said Dr. Melissa Phoon, Corporate Affairs Manager, Royal Canin Malaysia.

The online competition is divided into two categories, poetry recital for children between the ages of 4 and 7 years old and the storytelling for those between the ages of 8 and 12 years old. Interested participants can send in a 3-minute video talking about taking their cats to the vet to qualify for the competition after playing an educational web game on cat care via link: www.animalhappiness.asia/mycat2vet

Once the video is ready for upload on the Newman Drama’s Facebook Event Page, the participants must tag @royalcaninMY and include the hashtags: #cat2vet, #tycttv #newmandrama for the judges to review.

“Newman Drama and Royal Canin will contribute up to 70% of the total evaluation, so the children are required to include their stories or experience taking their cats to the vet for extra marks.

Meanwhile, likes and shares on Social Media platforms will contribute to the remaining 30%,” Siew Yong added. “In conclusion, we’d like the children to share their sweet memories with their cats, hoping that they will continue to value their pets as part of their family members through this Social Media competition”.

The competition will run until 18th November 2020. Each child is entitled for one entry. Cash prizes, certificates and medals worth more than RM1,200 are up for grabs!

Find out more details about the TYCTTV: The Future Advocate Poetry & Storytelling Competition via official Facebook Event Page: https://fb.me/e/dgRLCA1XB

About Newman Drama:

Newman Drama was officially started in 2014.

This humble company was created by the chirpy lady Siew Yong. After years of providing drama classes in the Klang Valley, she was more convinced that teaching drama is really what she is passionate and good at (apart from performing, of course). Thus together with John Newman they have created a brand for her drama classes – Newman Drama.

The objective of Newman Drama is simple. Newman Drama uses Drama Tools to enrich the learning and teaching experience for both Malaysian students and teachers.

Newman premise their core value on holistic learning and teaching for students and teachers. They believe students and teachers are equally their great assets. Newman Drama’s vision is to provide a platform not just for students to excel but also for teachers to expand their teaching horizon. Thus, Newman Drama is also an ideal fusion platform for performing artists and professionals from different background (coming together) to pass on their ‘craft’ to the next generation.

Newman Drama currently offers classes in KL, Klang Valley and Penang. They have classes in learning centres, kindergarten, local, private and international schools.

Diving into the science of swimming the fun way

SwimIn12's fun science-centred programme enables kids and teens to master swimming techniques

Did you know Sir Isaac Newton's Law of Motion that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction is applicable to when you're in water? While in the water, swimmers must stroke downward to keep moving and stay afloat – opposing equal force that the water expends to swimmers to keep them from moving.

There is no escaping science. It can be always used to explain everything in everyday life. Similarly, there is much science to learn in the art of swimming.

"It is an added benefit when students understand and apply what they know about the science when they swim. For example, in asking them to keep their hands straight, we demonstrate how this is similar to the shape of a ship, plane or rocket that helps to cut through air or water faster.

"When we talk about more air in the lungs will help them float while less air will sink, we apply this to the ballast tank in submarines. We have heard success stories from our Swim Science students from as far as Australia, Singapore and India," said E.J. Yeap who is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SwimIn12.

The 11-year old institution kicked off the beta testing of Swim Science in March this year, just 10-days after the enforcement of Malaysia's Movement Control Order (MCO) following the worsening of the COVID-19 outbreak.

"The order meant that pools would be closed for three months and we thought of ways to keep an interest in swimming, especially for our younger students.

"Led by our coaching team leader Darshini Balakrishnan, we are proud to say we innovated a new style of teaching by incorporating the evergreen laws of science. It helps beginners understand the concept of swimming faster by simplifying the important theory of water physics in an engaging manner.

"The programme also explains how swimming theories apply in many aspects of aerodynamic and marine sciences. With the help of today's technology, we make Swim Science sessions interactive and interesting for students to follow," Yeap explained.

Catered to those aged between seven and 18, SwimIn12 hires the help of video communications programme Zoom to conduct lessons.

"We admit that it is not easy to win the crowd when we mention online sessions. However, with Swim Science it's not a one-way direction. It is more than just listening and watching. We keep it interesting with some activities like quiz sessions and even treasure hunts for things around the house that are relevant to the lesson.

"I'd commend my team of 30-odd coaches at SwimIn12 for innovating this programme, teaching and educating students and keeping the lessons interesting for our students," he adds.

Swim Science is offered in two packages – eight lessons (RM200) or 20 lessons (RM300) in a month. Yeap takes pride in saying that the programme is a purely Malaysian innovation, observing a similar approach taken a few months later, by a neighbouring country.

Back to school 15 July 2020

growing up fast, this photo was taken when he was below 12 years old.
It's month of July 2020, soon my son will be back to school on 15 July 2020. He has tried out the school uniform and he still can fit them. However he has not try out the school shoes, I think he can still fit in them as few months back I have bought a few pair shoes which is one or two size bigger for him. He will be getting ready hand sanitizer, extra face mask to school in case one mask is filled with sweat he got to change it with another. Of course the standard operating procedure of school to follow. I also will be giving him wipes in case he needs to use to wipe something.

Social distancing to practice of course in the school, he shared the video of school for me to see that they are practice one way walking in and out of the school.

I am sure of how is the SOP of his little brother for primary school that's his turn to back to school on 22 July 2020. It's going to be same that we be providing him the hand sanitizer, wipes, and extra face mask to bring to school. He already know of the importance of social distancing. He got a personalized mask, but he will not be using that for schooling.

Besides back to school soon, it's maybe month of August that the boys got to go back to tuition centre as waiting the tuition centre to confirm and let us know about it. As for now they are both online tuition at home, I have problem with Ipad access to Google classroom so I didn't use that anymore. My laptop is 15 years old and has got a few times auto shut down by itself, my son is using it for attending online school class Google Meet. Ipad can us for Zoom meeting, for tuition and other online class school.

The month of July indeed a special month, it's also my hubby birthday. Some of my friends already started their plan on vacation in Malaysia and some of them already started visiting places in Malaysia. As for us, we just keep calm and stay home not planning for any vacation at the moment.

Lessons Learned in Play

Allowing little ones to have fun is so important to their educational development. It not only enhances their own skills, but it can also foster a love for learning; thus, during the younger years, it's important to not only spend time working on understanding the alphabet and numerals, but also some of the classic childhood activities. Doing both can benefit your child's vpk tampa experience. Here are three activities that can boost your mental growth.

Puzzles

There are many benefits in putting together a puzzle, especially for kids. Their eyes are still developing, learning to recognize shapes and forms. These fun boxes of pieces encourage them to pay attention to details, learning the differences and nuances of images. That's useful in reading and math as kids must start to recognize the structure of letters and numbers. In addition, activities such as these demand patience and critical thinking.

Coloring and Cutting

It's okay to explore a huge box of crafts. The imagination goes wild, and kids begin to explore their own minds. In addition, having to handle the small pieces allows them to work on their fine motor skills. Holding a crayon and drawing fun characters is simply an extension of an early writing lesson. Holding a pencil really is an important skill. Those that learn the wrong way may place too much pressure, building frustration with writing assignments down the road.

Music

The auditory system continues to grow even during these years. It's adapting to hearing small differences. In fact, even some letters are hard to hear until someone is older. Songs, though, work with introducing higher-level skills, making it simpler to remember and comprehend. The kiddos become more familiar with rhyme, increase vocabulary and become familiar with a study technique. They may not realize it, but by you playing ABC songs in the car, you're actually increasing their focus on knowledge and making it seem interesting.
If you need a few things to do at home, don't think flashcards are the only option. While useful, some of those entertaining tasks are just as useful.

Kids activities in Selangor/Kuala Lumpur

spot my son, he is in the group photo here

It's November, last month October the month of Halloween. My son had a great time though we didn't go many place for Halloween.Above photo is recently taken at The Curve, Damansara.

Where to go if you are in Kuala Lumpur /Selangor for this school holidays? Its time for kids have a good time too. KidZania Kuala Lumpur, I have a code sharing with you, that you can save money. Click on the link to find out.

When comes to school holidays, often we also want to think of ourselves as we want to go shopping too. Well at the same time we want our children to have a good time for themselves, not just spending their time on the gadgets.

I wouldn't want to see my sons on gadgets all time. I prefer to see them running, doing sports activities or sweat it out at fun indoor playground. Here's another blog post to share with you, its an indoor park in Kuala Lumpur, click on the link to read it up. There have choices of kids day camps to choose from too. What's important for parents not just having good time with kids but spending quality time together too.

I am in the midst of planning my kids tuition for next year. Yeah time to cut out the tuition time, not completely just not so many days in a week. Both my children aged 13 yrs old and 8 yrs old. Both time of schooling tuition are completely different too. There are times that I need to send him by 4pm then get him by 6.45pm then send home. Then fetch another son at 7pm then in and change clothes in car before going to tuition at 7.45pm. Time management is important to me, nobody will be there to do it but me. Just got to plan it out wisely.

Despite the popularity of blue and pink onesies, rattles and pacifiers, there are a number of good reasons to consider buying gender-neutral baby gifts for friends or family expecting a child.

They're the Ideal Future Hand-Me-Downs

If you’re buying gifts for parents expecting their first child, gender neutral baby gifts are a way of preparing for the future. Gender-neutral clothes and toys can be handed down to future children, regardless of gender, and parents of multiple young children will appreciate the savings.

Children Don’t Care About Gender

More and more parents are raising their child without sticking to strict pink and blue color schemes and other gender norms. Gender-neutral parenting might have a point — the fact that your child is cute and comfortable matters more than the color he or she is wearing. Buying gender-neutral baby gifts opens you up to a world of exciting, fun and cute options without limiting yourself and the baby you’re buying for to a specific, culturally dictated color palette.

You Wouldn’t Limit Yourself to One Color

Your wardrobe is full of different colors, styles and patterns, and let’s face it — when babies are first growing up, how they dress is influenced by their parents. New parents can and should dress their children in more than just pinks and blues, so giving them gender-neutral baby presents will allow them to express their own personalities as parents, as well as influence their baby’s style.
Buying gender-neutral items for parents of newborns opens up a world of possibilities, fun fashions and exciting styles that gendered baby clothing sometimes lacks. These gifts can give parents a chance to express personality with their babies and save money on hand-me-downs, making them perfect in both the short and the long term.

Beautiful Creation by Ben Firdaus using Nippon Paint
Good day to all my readers and visitors. Today sharing with you that I have recently attended Nippon Paint Sayangi Malaysiaku Create-It-Yourself (CIY) Workshop with Ben Firdaus Interior Designer. Everyone has got a busy lifestyle, especially parents I am sure everyone parent would like to create a safe indoor environments for their loved ones especially children. Sharing with you today on what I have learned at the workshop. Everyone one of us is given a wooden plate to create our own masterpiece. There's an apron for everyone to put it on to prevent getting the paint on ourselves especially our clothing. Scroll down to view the what's on the table before we get start to create our masterpiece.

This is a fun workshop as we have the hands on experienced to create our own masterpiece.
tools of Nippon Pants that we are going for the CIY
At the workshop, Ben Firdaus has explained and show us step by step of creating the beautiful masterpiece which had the colors of yellow, red, blue and white. There's need of use the Washi Tape as first step to create the designed that we want, I would say is the colours that we want to colours on the wooden plate. It's been a long time I didn't try on painting the last time was 16 years back when house was under renovation. The Nippon Paint range that we are using at the workshop is one of the Nippon Paint Child Wellness Range consists of 3 unique technologies catering to child's stages of growth.

Before we get start for the Create-It-Yourself workshop, each of us has the wooden plate which is empty. The painting that we are using is Nippon Paint,  There's Nippon Paint Hydro Primer and Nippon Paint Hydro. Nippon Paint Hydro Primer is used to prevents wood from rotting, and suitable for metal used to prevent it from rusting. Nippon Paint Hydro Primer and Nippon Paint Hydro it has low VOCs.

Ben Firdaus is friendly and helpful giving us lots of tips on using the Nippon Paint products.
I am sure you would like to see what if use these panting for your children's room? Don't forget to watch the Calit, Si Cilik Calit! It's on every Tuesday, it just started on 4 September 2018 at 9.50pm on TV3. It's about 3 Nippon Rangers that help parent with children's who needs to have a room makeover. Children has many idea and imagination, it can be a nice creative wall for their bedroom.
Using the Nippon Paint Hydro Primer, Washi Tape , and Synthetic Paint Brush
The wooden plate which is empty, I have created the pattern with the Washi Tape and the area I used the Nippon Paint Hydro Primer. Hydro Primer is used to prevents wood from rotting, it has low VOCs. First layer of paint is using the Nippon Paint Hydro Primer, wait it dry for 15 minutes then can proceed with second layer of it. But due to timing we only done one layer paint for it. We then used the color we wanted to use and paint on the Hydro Primer that we earlier painted.
Sharing a short video I made for this fun Nippon Paint Sayangi Malaysiaku CIY Workshop, click on the link for the Youtube link.

Remember the tape that I have put on the plate? Well after the Hydro Primer have dried, we can proceed with another color to put on the designs. I have used all the Nippon Paint Hydro colours which I have mentioned above on this masterpiece. Flowers you see on the plate is the last step to do. We have got a fun utensil that's 'Bunga Raya' that make beautiful print on the plate, we need to use sponge on it but first got to soak it in the paint and try it on papers first then only onto the plate. My friends says my masterpiece looks like shield, what do you think?
my masterpiece creation, do you like it?

It's fun with the Nippon Paint Sayangi Malaysiaku CIY Workshop, the paints have no smell at all. I am sure you know that most paint have very strong smell but this doesn't have any smell. It's can be use to create safe indoor environments with the Nippon Pint Child Wellness Range. Complete coating solutions for child's safety and wellbeing.

Indeed a fun Nippon Paint Sayangi Malaysiaku CIY Workshop that we had.
