To make these baskets, here's what you'll need...
-Baskets (mine are from the Dollar Store, nothing fancy)
-Glue gun & glue sticks
-Scissors
-Fabric (I just used a thin cotton remnant that I already had. It was the perfect size to make two of these baskets.)
To figure out how much fabric you need, you need to measure from the top of one side of the basket, around the bottom, and up to the top of the other side, and then add 4-5 inches (or less, it's up to you) to allow for wrapping over the edge. You need to do this for both the width and depth of the basket.
You can wash your fabric. I didn't wash mine because I knew it wasn't ever coming off, so I wasn't worried about shrinking. You should definitely iron it though. It will give you a clean, professional look and will make working with the fabric easier.
After it's measured, cut, and ironed, you can start gluing! Unless you're working with a thicker fabric, my recommendation would be to glue on the inside of the basket, where no one will see. Then you can avoid seeing lumps of glue through the fabric.
I'm not quite talented enough to use hot glue and a camera at the same, so here's a pretend-y photo! Do this around the inside edge of all 4 sides. In the picture below, you can see how you're left with a "pucker" of fabric at each corner. It's more than a pucker, but I think you get what I'm saying.
I wanted a folded/present look on the outside of the basket, so at this point, I just took those littler puckers/tails of fabric and folded them across the smaller side of the basket. The picture below shows it better than I probably explained it.
There was some extra fabric that I felt was a little awkward when folded up, so I just cut off the corner of it. Glue it down on the inside. Then fold the other pucker/tail across the same side.
Sorry for the blurry picture. :) Repeat this on the opposite side of the basket, and then make sure that the inside edges are all glued down.
Now you get to glue the ribbon accent around the top. Pretty easy, just be careful not to burn yourself. Not that I did that. The less glue you use, the less it will show through the ribbon. Again, not that I'd know. ;)
Just keep gluing around. I glued the top edge of the ribbon first, then the bottom. I wanted to make sure to stay right along the top edge of the basket and I felt that was the easiest way. Pretty soon, you'll be left with something like this...
Just repeat all of the above for your second basket.
I know that with all that light shining in, you can see through the fabric, but I promise, I can't tell in my bathroom. They sit on our bathroom shelf and just look all pretty.
Not bad for $2, right? I already had the fabric and Spool of Ribbon sent me the ribbon, so I only had to pay for the baskets.
