Old Deck Wood Laundry Crate

http://mylove2create.blogspot.ca/2014/04/old-deck-wood-laundry-crate.html

I'm a huge fan of storage and organizational items, and they're even better when they're made from upcycled things! My Love 2 Create turned some old deck wood into this great (and portable!) laundry basket storage station. Amazing!

DIY Easter Baskets

diy easter baskets

These homemade Easter baskets from The Refurbished Life are stunning, don't you think? Our baskets are lame, cheap-o buckets from the store. I might just have to find a way to spruce them up!

No-Sew Basket Liners

Delineate your Dwelling has a great tutorial for making a basket liner. I think basket liners really add some class to a simple basket, but finding baskets with liners to match your décor can be tough. Making your own liners means they'll be exactly what you want!

DIY Mini Kitchen Rolling Cart

DIY mini kitchen island yellow- 19-03

This idea from Now At Home Mom is pretty clever. She took a rolling cart, gave it a makeover, and turned it into something functional for her kitchen! How great is that?

Dollar Store Basket Makeover

Do you remember the Magnetic Makeup Board I showed you earlier this week? Well, here's another project featuring the same Offray Aqua Dip N Dot ribbon from Spool of Ribbon! These baskets are going in the same bathroom, so I used the same ribbon to help tie it all together.

To make these baskets, here's what you'll need...

-Baskets (mine are from the Dollar Store, nothing fancy)
-Ribbon (mine is from the awesome box that Spool of Ribbon sent me)
-Glue gun & glue sticks
-Scissors
-Fabric  (I just used a thin cotton remnant that I already had. It was the perfect size to make two of these baskets.)

To figure out how much fabric you need, you need to measure from the top of one side of the basket, around the bottom, and up to the top of the other side, and then add 4-5 inches (or less, it's up to you) to allow for wrapping over the edge. You need to do this for both the width and depth of the basket.

You can wash your fabric. I didn't wash mine because I knew it wasn't ever coming off, so I wasn't worried about shrinking. You should definitely iron it though. It will give you a clean, professional look and will make working with the fabric easier.

After it's measured, cut, and ironed, you can start gluing! Unless you're working with a thicker fabric, my recommendation would be to glue on the inside of the basket, where no one will see. Then you can avoid seeing lumps of glue through the fabric.

I'm not quite talented enough to use hot glue and a camera at the same, so here's a pretend-y photo! Do this around the inside edge of all 4 sides. In the picture below, you can see how you're left with a "pucker" of fabric at each corner. It's more than a pucker, but I think you get what I'm saying.

I wanted a folded/present look on the outside of the basket, so at this point, I just took those littler puckers/tails of fabric and folded them across the smaller side of the basket. The picture below shows it better than I probably explained it.

There was some extra fabric that I felt was a little awkward when folded up, so I just cut off the corner of it. Glue it down on the inside. Then fold the other pucker/tail across the same side.

Sorry for the blurry picture. :) Repeat this on the opposite side of the basket, and then make sure that the inside edges are all glued down.

Now you get to glue the ribbon accent around the top. Pretty easy, just be careful not to burn yourself. Not that I did that. The less glue you use, the less it will show through the ribbon. Again, not that I'd know. ;)

Just keep gluing around. I glued the top edge of the ribbon first, then the bottom. I wanted to make sure to stay right along the top edge of the basket and I felt that was the easiest way. Pretty soon, you'll be left with something like this...

Just repeat all of the above for your second basket.

I know that with all that light shining in, you can see through the fabric, but I promise, I can't tell in my bathroom. They sit on our bathroom shelf and just look all pretty.

Not bad for $2, right? I already had the fabric and Spool of Ribbon sent me the ribbon, so I only had to pay for the baskets.

If you're in need of ribbon, be sure to check out Spool of Ribbon! You can use the code "SMEDAY20" to get 20% off of your entire order at Spool of Ribbon! This code will be good through July 31st, 2013!

Basket Liner Tutorial

I've made a few basket liners in my day, but I think this tutorial from Life Is {Sew} Daily is even simpler than my way, as I tend to over-think things :) If you've got some naked baskets laying around, you need to go see how easy this tutorial is!

Basket Lampshade

Pin It  Have you ever seen lampshades that look like baskets?   They are so adorable.  Imperfectly Polished (at The CSI Project) actually took a basket and made it into a lampshade!   Totally cute!
