Happy Father's Day

We wanted to take a minute today to acknowledge all of the fathers out there and all that they do for us.

This little guy's daddy works so hard to provide for us and we love him so much! He works long hours and, unfortunately, has to sometimes miss out on things. But, he works hard so that I can stay home and take care of things here.

We love all the dads out there who read our blog - and those that support the crafty habits of the women who read our blog! :)

We hope you're able to spend the day celebrating all the fathers and father figures in your life!

Father's Day Shirts & A Silhouette Promotion

In the past, I made Father's Day shirts for my hubby and son, but my little guy has outgrown his, so I thought it was time for another set of shirts. Unfortunately I can't find the pictures I have of them, so I'll have to keep looking and maybe post them another time.

To make these new shirts, Silhouette sent me a Heat Transfer Starter Kit.

The starter kit contains:
-5 sheets of heat transfer vinyl (my kit contained yellow flocked, white flocked, black smooth, teal smooth, and pink smooth vinyl)
-Silhouette hook tool
-An ideabook
-An Instructional DVD
-A download card for 10 exclusive heat transfer designs

So to make these shirts, you'll need:

-Shirts
-Heat transfer vinyl
-Iron
-Ironing board
-Hook Tool (not necessary, but helpful)
-Scissors

So, get started by prewashing your shirts and creating your design. I used the Superhero Shield (Design ID #1786) and the fonts CF Jack Story and Impact. Since the shield is a copyrighted image, I can't legally share the whole file with you.

I cut out the largest shield layers in black, the smaller in the flocked yellow, and then the words in teal. The heat transfer vinyl cut great and it was easy to weed out all the negative space. Then start ironing and layering.

Start with the bottom layer of vinyl, and then work up. On my little guy's shirt, I did the whole shield first (including "DAD") and then added the words around it.

The ironing is where it gets a little difficult. I have to be honest, I don't think I'm a fan of the Silhouette Heat Transfer Vinyl. It was SOOOO hard getting it to stick to the shirt and to the other layers of vinyl - especially getting the teal "DAD" to stick to the flocked yellow. They eventually turned out great, but it took me more than an hour to iron the layers of vinyl onto 2 shirts. I used to sell onesies with heat transfer vinyl on Etsy and it shouldn't take that long.

But, like I said, despite the difficulty in ironing, I loved how the shirts turned out.

I love the texture of the flocked heat transfer vinyl paired with the smooth heat transfer vinyl.

Also, Silhouette has a new promotion for you!!

You can get any of the following discounts by using the code "SOMEDAY" at checkout. These discounts are valid from June 4th - June 15th.
