Happy Mother's Day

Hi, it's Diane today!

Mother's Day...what can I say, but a holiday well deserved. I feel very fortunate to still have my own mom at a young age of 87 this May!

I made this Mother's Day card thinking of many good memories while constructing it, the gingham ribbon being one. My mom had a love for gingham, which passed down to me as you see it on many of my cards.

This card started out with some of the most yummy card stock. This particular piece is Echo Bronze Stardream Metallic, a 105# card stock with a metallic sheen on both sides!

The next layer is one I had so much fun making. I used white card stock and stenciled a background using Memory Box Modern Florina. This is a smaller stencil, so I first placed it in the center of my card stock, then sponged on Tim Holtz distress ink, Pumice Stone, being careful not to ink along the edges so as not to get a square edge on it. I then just moved it around and sponged on more ink until it was totally covered. I then placed the stencil back over a few flowers lining then up and sponged on Tim Holtz Tea Die ink for a bit of darker color here and there. When the stenciling was done, I distressed the edges.

I added a few Memory Box Tall Chloe Stem die cuts with paper from Bo Bunny Soft Shades Double-Dots Designs
and Memory Box Beach Sprig die cut, from the Botanical Tea 6" x 6" by Graphic 45 paper pad.

The gingham bow was added, and I attached a cute little bow and heart cut from Precious Hearts by Memory Box.

I hope you will join us this week in our Mother's Day challenge. We would love to see your projects!

A beautiful tribute to your mother! Thanks Diane!

Feathers in Vase Mother's Day card

Hi Classy friends!  It's Holly posting today and I've been playing with some of the wonderful new Cheery Lynn Designs dies.

I love the new vases and the new dream catcher dies.  The feathers are from the Dream Catchers #2 (Cheery Lynn Designs) set.  These sold out immediately within hours of being available in the store, and there is another shipment en route.  That's why you will see the "Pre-order" notice on this particular item right now.

When I set about making this card, I had Mother's Day on my mind.  I knew I wanted to do something different.  When I saw the feathers in this Dream Catchers #2 (Cheery Lynn Designs) die, it niggled in my brain as a possible cool alternative to flowers.  When I saw the Vase (set of 4 from Cheery Lynn Designs) die set, my plan fell into place.  Yup, feathers in a vase instead of flowers - totally PERFECT!!!

Since I was already doing a "different" card, I decided I wanted to go with non-traditional colors for my card.  That meant no pastels, no flowery papers, no obvious "girly" stuff.  So I pulled out a piece of Kraft cardstock and stamped it with the Shabby Music background stamp (JustRite) and then sponged the edges with a brown ink.  I adhered this music piece to a vanilla card base, and then I pulled out my Country Girl border die (Cheery Lynn Designs).  I die cut the border from dark brown cardstock as well as a deep rose cardstock.  I cut the deep rose Country Girl border in half lengthwise and adhered it below my music background piece.  I then set aside my dark brown Country Girl border piece and picked up the negative piece (the outside part you would normally throw away) and affixed it over the music background piece and the deep rose border piece.  I love how it fits so perfectly over the triangles in the deep rose border.

The Vase (Cheery Lynn Designs) was cut from vanilla cardstock and I stamped the sentiment from the Hugs & Kisses Sentiments set (JustRite) directly onto the vase.  I cut the Mini Fanciful Flourish (Cheery Lynn Designs) from the same deep rose cardstock and inserted it into the top of the vase.  Then I cut the feathers from the Dream Catchers #2 set (Cheery Lynn Designs) from dark brown cardstock and arranged them inside the vase with the mini flourish.  The vase was affixed to my card with some Joy Foam Pads.

I hope you've enjoyed this non-traditional Mother's Day card!  :-)

Floral Cameo for Mother's Day!

Hi, it's Holly posting today.  Have you played with the beautiful resin cameos from the Classy Cards 'n Such store?  I shared a card with a blue cameo on it a couple months ago, and I've got another card to share with you today using these gorgeous pink flower cameos.

I started with a kraft card base and I stamped the sentiment from the Hugs and Kisses Sentiments set (JustRite) at the bottom.  The pink layer has been cut on the bottom with the Lady Kate edger die (Cheery Lynn Designs).  I embossed the vanilla layer with the Garden Lattice embossing folder and just lightly rubbed some Antique Linen distress ink across the embossed areas.  Some brown ribbon was tied around the embossed layer and simply knotted on the side.

I die cut the pink scallop oval with the Classic Scallop Oval Large die (Spellbinders) and then added a kraft layer die cut with a Labels 18 die (Spellbinders).  A vanilla oval was die cut with an oval die and I adhered the Pink Floral cameo in the center.

My grandmother's favorite color is pink, and this card will be perfect to give to her in May for Mother's Day.  She will adore this gorgeous cameo.  :-)
So pretty, Holly!
